Hey Jazz Fans! My name is Sydney and I am your new blogger for the 2010-2011 season! Yay! I am so excited! Well I must say I am SO happy to be back dancing for a second season. Are you all excited about our new team? I am! I love all of the excitement surrounding the beginning of the season. I can’t wait to see what this year brings us. It should be a fun one!

On another note, here is a little about me…. I am a Dance Major at the University of Utah. So yes you can pretty much say that all I do is dance. Hey but it is what I love so why not? I have been dancing and training extensively since I was four years old. I guess I just can’t get enough of it! My favorite style of dance is Contemporary. However I have spent many years training in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, tumbling, modern and African and even a little bit of ballroom. It wasn’t until High School that I decided to get into cheerleading. I just love cheering on my favorite sports teams, so it is the perfect thing for me. I am a major UTE fan as well as a huge Jazz fan. I have been my whole life!

Did I mention I am also a very serious student? Education has always been very important to me. I graduated in the top of my High School class and was also a Sterling Scholar. My many years of dance training and academic success helped me receive a full ride scholarship for my college education. I am also apart of the Honors College at the University of Utah. Luckily this is repaying for all those expensiveyears of dance lessons ah! Thanks Mom and Dad :)

I am also the oldest of four kids. I have three younger brothers. Oh man what would I do without them…. I would have to say they are my biggest fans. Each one is so unique and just plain hilarious. They really are the biggest studs. I love them to death. I never stop laughing when I am around them. Yes you will see them at many of the Utah Jazz home games!

Speaking of Jazz games, there are so many in the month of November! Ah how exciting! That means practice every Tuesday and Thursday, along with up to three home games per week. Wow! It’s a good thing us dancers all love each other, because we are going to be spending a lot of time together ha.

Actually I’m pretty sure we can’t get enough of each other. Not only do we sweat (and I mean really sweat, thanks to Neil), train and dance together, we actually really enjoy hanging out too. We go out to dinner, go dancing, and even to haunted houses! Did I mention we each have a “Secret Sister?” We secretly get each other little gifts throughout the year. Some are seasonal and some are just for fun! The other day, I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from my S.S. because I wasn’t feeling too well. Ah how cute is that? I’m pretty sure I have the best one hehe.

Being a NuSkin Jazz Dancer isn’t always just fun and games, however. There is a lot of hard work that goes into our jobs. No we do not just shake our hips lol. Our dance choreography is difficult and we have to learn numerous dances throughout the season. We work out with our trainer Neil Anderson from GPP Fitness before every rehearsal and throughout the week. We also participate in many appearances throughout the year and even during the off-season. Since the media interviews us often it is essential that we know our facts about the Jazz team and the NBA basketball season.

At auditions every year, the judges are always looking for a number of things. Not only do you need to be able to dance and perform, you must also be seen as a great representative for the Jazz and Nu Skin organizations. This I must say is a huge responsibility. I am definitely very proud to be apart of both. I feel very blessed to have such an amazing job and I am looking forward to another great year cheering on THE UTAH JAZZ!!!!

  9. You girls are beautiful. I know you wanted to wear more skimpy outfits, but Larry Miller, being the good moral man that he was – just wouldn’t have it. Sorry for all you talented dances. Go Jazz!!!!!!!
