I hope you are all ready for the Holidays. I sure am. It has been a long and busy couple of months. My goodness has it been fun though. What a great streak of home games we have had. The Jazz are doing wonderful things. I love the chemistry that our team has. However there’s a lot more going on around here than just basketball! This is especially true during the holidays. I am on my second season as a Nu Skin Jazz Dancer and I have to say the thing that has been the most touching to me, is how much service the Jazz organization does for the community. The Utah Jazz players spend countless hours helping needy children and their families. When I look back on my Jazz experiences its not the games that stick out as much as the service appearances we have been involved with.
Recently we spent some time at Primary Children’s Hospital. It was a very humbling experience to be in the presence of these courageous children. It is also very sweet to see how happy the kids get when they see the Jazz team, coaches and especially the Jazz Bear. The Nu Skin Jazz Dancers made an appearance last year for The Make A Wish Foundation. This beautiful little girl had been a dancer and a cheerleader when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She lost most of her basic functions with the treatment that ensued. Therefore she was beginning to relearn her coordination required for cheer and dance activities. We all left that day in tears. This year we have been presented with a similar case. A young girl has asked to visit us during one of our practices, and yet another amid a game. We are very excited to meet both girls and have a few surprises in store for them.
We also visited some young kids at the Grand America Hotel. Here we were able to share Christmas stories and give a tour of the decorated suite, otherwise known as Teddy Bear Town. Many children contributed to the collection of teddy bears as a donation. They were able to place their bears anywhere that seemed fit. These will now be delivered to the Salt Lake County Fire Departments, and will then be passed on to other children in need. It is very lovely to see young kids so happy to help others less fortunate then them as well. I truly believe I have received more from these service appearances than I have given. These experiences always put my own life into perspective. I feel so lucky to be apart of such a great and giving organization.
Now is the time to reflect on Christmas time and family. What a better time then to be spending time together. Even better are the times spent together helping others. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas! Be safe, have fun, stay together and stay tuned into watching JAZZ BASKETBALL!!
