Hey Jazz Fanzz!!  Happy St. Pattys!

Well it’s ALL about basketball these days!! I just can’t get enough of it. From March Madness to the NBA, these games are really keeping me on my toes! It sure has been nice to see the JAZZ win at home. How exciting has it been to go into Over Time and pull it through? Love that energy we’ve been having. Now we just need to keep everyone healthy!

Speaking of March Madness…. Have you heard about the NBA Dance Team Bracket?? The NuSkin Jazz Dancers along with every other team in the NBA are competing against each other. We all were asked to come up with a dance to the song “Burlesque.” NBA TV then came and filmed us perform at a couple games and we were soon entered into the competition. Last years matchups were based only off of pictures, so we were happy to show off our stuff this time around! Wish us luck and remember to vote online for your favorite team (wink wink, hint hint).

As dancers we have also been very fortunate to have a few guests come and dance with us! First it was our cute Dads and most recently we danced with twelve wonderful guy dancers. We put together a swing dance half time number within only two practices. The guys were all very talented and really added to our performance. Not to mention three of them were fellow Utes of mine. Got to love them!! Coming up we have two more exciting guests to join us. Stay tuned for March 28th and another game in April. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Usually my school and work life are completely separate, however lately they have been crossing paths.  Recently we had an appearance up at the U to raise money for Cancer research. It was a lot of fun to perform and be around all of my peers, and so great to have so much support from them, especially for such a great cause.  Once again I also really appreciate the guys from the Dance Department teaming up with us to put on such a great show.

Sometimes both worlds of dance I am involved in are conflicting. I find myself often defending one of the other.  I think it can be difficult for both ends to understand the relevance of each. A frequent question I am asked is: “Why did you decide to go into dance/be a Dance Major and what are you going to do with that?” I laugh at these kinds of questions and all I can think is WHY NOT?! Dance has been my one true passion my entire life so why would I ever change that? It is the one thing that makes me truly happy and that I know the most about.  I have a lot of friends that don’t really enjoy school, where I absolutely love every minute of it.

When it comes to my job, dancing for the Jazz is the perfect thing for someone like me, and especially in college. Although I am unable to perform as much at the University, I do get to perform all of the time and non-stop at the Jazz games. I feel like I really get the best of both worlds. I also feel so privileged to work for such an amazing organization, dancing, performing and cheering for a team that I love.

Therefore I plan to continue dancing for myself as long as possible. Eventually I would like to get my Masters of Fine Arts, following my Bachelors and teach at the University level. I really enjoy working with children and young aspiring artists. One thing I do is that I will ALWAYS dance. So thank you for allowing me and my wonderful teammates to share what we love with all of you!! GO JAZZ!

I think you are almost a week late for St. Pattys. Oh well I would’t mind getting pinched again..

It’s not “St. Patty’s.” Patty is a girl name short for Patricia. The shortened version of Patrick (or “Padraig”) is “Paddy.” It’s St PaDDy’s, not PaTTy’s. Just so you know. Patty is a girl’s name and an ugly one at that.
