Ty Corbin COY???

No I’m not insane. I’m not talking about this year. We can all admit that this season is over for us Jazz fans and we will be lucky to win 40 games let alone the 50+ we hoped for at the beginning of the season. So that leaves us in the lottery. We get 2 lottery picks with the nets one. Hopefully the balls fall in an unbelievable way getting us 1 and 2 but I doubt it.

Next season we will be better. The players will be more used to eachother and coach Corbin’s system (whatever that turns out to be by next year). It will be a different team from what we have experienced this year. We will be back in the playoffs where Utah Jazz belong and the floored system of Coach of the Year will give it to Ty Corbin. How much of a mockery to the legacy of Jerry Sloan that will be. Corbin wont achieve more then Sloan ever did next year. We might hope for a Championship next year but it wont happen. We will be significantly improved and the reward will go to a coach who is really just achieving what is expected of this club.

Anyone disagree? (I expect a fair few). Add your thoughts.

I don’t see this team being competitive again for at least several years. We have no floor leader and don’t execute plays hardly at all. Ball movement is poor and defense is nonexistent. We’re one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA and quite possibly the worst at defending the three. Nobody on the team has been able to shoot the ball consistently. We went from having one of the deepest benches in the NBA to one of the very worst. If the players are willing to give it a try and have the passion that we haven’t seen since Deron left(and sometime before), the execution and defense can improve. Sadly, we just don’t have the talent right now for all these things being fixed to be enough. Likely we will have the 6th pick or very near it, and somewhere around the 12th pick. This draft is huge. The team has so many needs, we can’t afford to screw this up or the Jazz may be bottom-feeders for a long time.

You might as well mark Andrei Kirilenko down for MVP next season while your at it. It makes about as much sense.

Personally I think that Ty Corbin should’ve been hired as interim head coach and been forced to earn the job of head coach. Cuz right now I don’t think he’s doing a very good job at all in motivating this team to win games. I want to go on a coaching search this offseason to get us the best head coach possible when we actually have options, but no. Not only do the Jazz hire him as full time head coach, but as a reward for being 5-12 as a head coach so far he gets a multi-year contract extension. Explain to me how this makes sense?

I am not sure how to respond to this post. I am sure you did not intend it to be mean or sarcastic, but that is how it comes off to me. The Jazz will be trying to integrate so many new players and a new coaching style that I think it will be at least a couple of year before they do anything but squeak into the playoffs. The next few years will be a process, I am just hoping that TY Corbin will even still be the coach in a couple of years.

Adam is right, this isn’t very likely at all. That being said, if the Jazz somehow become a legitimate playoff team as soon as next season, T-Corb’s name would definitely be thrown into the COY conversation. But again, not extremely likely that the scenario will play out that way

Corbin has done an awful job at motivating his guys! I am a big Corbin fan but giving him a contract extension was ridiculous. This team shows no heart right now on the defensive end. A line-up of Harris, Bell, AK, Millsap, and Jefferson should be able to compete (not win every game) with every team out there. It’s a joke!

You can tell Ty is still trying to fell his way, not only with the system but with Just learning how to coach. There has been a lot of situations were he has made questionable substitutions. One bug one was the other night when Milsap made 2 straight three’s and ty took him out. Now the logic was getting quicker defenders out there to force an inbound pass away from Kevin Martin but We have all seen Milsap get on these roles were he cant miss at the end of the game. I think in that situation you have to leave him in so he doesn’t cool off on the bench. I could be mistaken but I think he left Al in. I’m sure if he had to do it again he would have left Milsap in instead. It became a mute point but it could have been a difference maker. There have been other times were he has done simelar things but my point is that it will take him some time to really get Head coaching down so it is a work in progress.

This is hilarious, a few of you knuckleheads are quick to pull the trigger and blame it on Corbin.
Maybe you should look at the Jazz lineup and decide who’s to blame. Perhaps it is KOC, the guy that destroyed the team within 1 year. Brewer, Boozer, Korver, Matthews Williams, all of them gone. And the clever joke was Jerry Sloan. He would have never quit in the middle of the season. That’s not Jerry Sloan like. I don’t believe it for a second. He knew Williams was gonna be traded, so he decided to quit. Why would he spent another 8 season to rebuild, with bunch of scrubs? He has been there done that.
So Sloan quits, and Williams is made the scapegoat. Then Williams gets traded, most of the fans don’t care, because he was made the villain for Sloan’s departure. Imagine if the opposite happen. Williams get traded then Sloan quit after that? Jazz would have lost half of Jazz Fan loyalty, because the fans would have realized that management screwed up big time, to the point that Sloan quit too. This was an Inside Job well executed by LD Jazz management.
The real person to blame here is KOC and Jazz management. He should be fired yesterday. Jazz wont be good for another 8 yrs at least. Most of these players in this squad wont even be in the team by 2014. It’s 2001 all over again, except its 2011, and nothing has been achieved for the past decade. Great Job KOC. Give AK another 78 million dollar contract for the next 5 yrs, maybe extent CJ’s contract too. 4 yrs 48 Million, sounds reasonable, for your caliber of basketball IQ.

  9. Adam says:

Well, I blame management more than Ty Corbin as well, don’t get me wrong. I’m really pissed off at KOC and think he should be replaced. The fact that Ty Corbin got hired as full time head coach instead of interim and then got a multi-year extension afterwards really shows how dumb management is. HOWEVER… We have a decent team if you look at our talent. Jefferson, Millsap, Kirilenko, Miles, and Harris as our starters shouldn’t be playing as horrible as they are. And actually, number-wise they are doing a decent job. The problem is that they don’t know how to win and they don’t seem motivated at the end of games. We play good games against good teams but fall on our faces at the end or in the second half. Corbin can’t motivate this group. If we had a really good coach, we’d be in the playoff hunt still. This team wasn’t playing great this season under Jerry, but he at least had us in the playoff hunt this season. We didn’t drop out until Corbin took over and I think if Sloan was still here, he’d get this pathetic squad to the playoffs. He’s done it before.
