A Simple Question, Nothing More…
Posted by: Adam on September 4th, 2010
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.So I had a thought come to me just now. Currently, as we all know, anyone on this site can create a new blog post. Not only this, but they can create as many blog posts as they want and no one can ever stop them, because that is the purpose of this site. All Jazz fans are given the equal opportunity to express their own opinions no matter what. This is a great idea that creates a very fun site for Jazz fans to enjoy. However, what if this privilege was abused and this site became extreme chaos? Now, I know the point has been argued about blogs on this site being repetitive, old, mundane, poorly written, etc because of this privilege, but this isn’t what I’m talking about. Most blogs that have been written, have been written about the Jazz. My question is what would happen if there started to be tons of blogs written that have nothing to do with the Jazz? Like for instance if people started writing blogs about other sports, other teams, personal issues, current events, politics, and whatever else they can think of. If this happened and Jazz blogs started becoming a minority subject, would this site implement a moderator that controlled which blogs written were allowed to be officially posted? Currently, there is nothing that can stop someone from writing a blog about whatever they want. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t intend to start a revolt like this. Every blog I create will have something to do with this site or with the Utah Jazz. I’m just implementing a theoretical situation. If it happened, could it be controlled? Does there need to be a moderator (or several of them) that reviews each blog before it is submitted or are we good with what we have here? Now, I don’t mean to start controversy or cause a huge heated discussion. I am in no way angry or fed up with this site, I’m just posing a simple question. What if? Give me your thoughts.

And yes, I did notice that I have now created two blogs in a row. It’s funny because my two recent blogs, this one and the one yesterday, have been a day apart and no one has started any new blogs today. That is something that doesn’t happen often…
thats an interesting thought..asides that one byu post, i think almost all of the others have been jazz/site related in one way or another..I definetly don’t want other topics popping on this site, if i did I would just go to ksl.com and go to the comment boards..as for a moderator, i dont know, I really enjoy the fact that I can post a blog and get others opinions, but do some of us abuse it? I probably do sometimes. So I think a moderator would be good for cleaning up the site and stuff but it might take away a little freedom.
I think a few moderators looking through submitted blogs would be great. They would have to read through them and decide whether to publish them. This is a site purely for Jazz fans to post and read about Jazz stuff, not Football, Baseball or any other crap.
All my posts have been about the Jazz, and I won’t start posting anything else about other sports, events, etc.
Moderators would be great.
I haven’t noticed too many blogs that are off topic. I know there are people who are in charge of the blog, I do believe they have the ability to moderate blogs if they desire but I think they haven’t deemed it necessary yet.
It seems like this site would benefit if people would put some of their ideas in the chat section of the site. some of the blog posts are short which is fine but when its more of just a question its probably better to but it in the chat.
I think if everyone began going off subject and creating tons of new blogs on random subjects there would be something done. Its ok to post whatever as long as its Jazz related. No matter what it is a few people still encourage that saying thanks and keep it coming and so on. Really? No… it gets old real fast. I just skip the posts now and if something looks interesting I’ll read it. That way I avoid the annoyance.
Its funny that one person posts something other than the Jazz and everyone is on him. Maybe that’s the answer to making changes here. More people will speak up when its off topic, but I can post 5 blogs in a row about the same thing and its cool. Maybe one or two people will be bothered. Now if I post 5 blogs about the Utes maybe they’ll be an uproar. I might just do that and test this theory. Thumbs up if you think I should try it.
Diana- I’m not saying it has. But what if it does? That was the question.
Personally, I loved the BYU blog. I think if UtahJazz360.com became Utah360.com that it would be a very fun site. There would always be something to talk about, especially in times like these where nothing exciting is going on in the Jazz world. I’ll give you the thumbs up on the Ute blogs, Champ. A few years back, I did a weekly blog about the NFL on CBSsports.com. It would be interesting to see what would happen if I did that on this site, but currently I’m not daring enough. You make a good point. Maybe that is what needs to happen for changes to start being made on this site.
I think blogs should be somehow limited in some way. There isn’t much difference from the blogs and the message board these days. And subjects and news are bouncing off both. And things seem to get cluttered and annoying. I think there should be a system in place where the more you post on the message board the more points you get. And once you get to a certain level on the message board. You’ll be open to posting blogs. Or something to that matter. Help clear some clutter and keep the blogs free from most spamming of anything non-Jazz related.
I think there are plenty of other places to sound off or talk about other subject. I would like this site to be a Jazz only site. I enjoy reading everyones intelligent coments. It’s like a saying I learned in my youth. It’s like KISS.. Keep it simple stupid..
Love the idea Chase. Either idea would work. I hope they implement one of them. It would make the site better.
There are moderators on this site, they just aren’t advertised. They work behind the scenes deleting content that isn’t relative or has very inappropriate content. All while making sure all Jazz fans have a voice.
That’s good to know. They should put a little more effort into it sometimes. I know several blogs and comments that should’ve been deleted.
You realize of course this is not going to destroy the team or any of its loyal followers. Plus for the most part it will fix itself once the season starts and the new topics and rumors start with it. These are just the boring basketball months. In any case, while I agree it doesnt belong, if you dont want to read about BYU then stop reading and press the back button. No big deal I almost did it with this posting. Which ironically also has nothing to do with the JAZZ.
Adam, I debated posting a new blog because I found this article and thought of you… (I’m sure you know why)
Since you started a blog already about off-topic blogs, I figure this is the perfect place. Btw, my blog was going to be called “Adam, check out this Brett Favre article.” It would have then had a link to the article and nothing else…maybe a snarky comment, but that would be it.
Here it is

Old, yes, but accurate as I’m sure you’ll agree.
PS – Were PM’ing available, I would have used that to save everyone else from having to read something about Brett. Sorry everyone!
