Put Yourself in the Celtics’ Shoes

Posted by: Adam on March 3rd, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

It is reported that Rajon Rondo is on the trading block. It has also been reported that the Jazz were in talks with the Celtics. Now connecting the two, it would be awesome if we traded for Rondo. Now every Jazz fan is going to say trade CJ, Harris, and/or the trade exception. But I don’t think the Celtics would do that. So I want Jazz fans to do something. Pretend you are a Celtics fan. Now its not said officially that the Jazz are in talks to trade for Rondo, but pretend as a Celtics fan you hear that you are going to trade Rondo to the Jazz. Who from the Jazz do you want in exchange?

Now take that opinion and combine it with your own as a Jazz fan as what you would be willing to give up for Rondo. From those two factors, come up with a realistic trade proposal that would work well for both teams. I want to hear what you come up with.

  1. I really don’t want the attitude Rondo has rubbing off on our young guys, and for that reason, I don’t hope to see him in a Jazz jersey.

If the season ended tonight, the Jazz would have the 10th and the 12th pick in the draft (depending upon what happens in the lottery).

  2. Woody Palmer says:

Old news Adam. They are now reporting that they have assured rondo that he isn’t going anywhere. Doc came out and said it. It was in an article on hoopsworld a few days ago.

    We can move on now

  3. Van says:

Its hard to say what teams really are willing to do through all the front office smoke blowing.

Honestly when General Managers come out and say something like “He’s our guy, we’re not trading ..insert disgruntled/underperfoming player here…” the next week that player is gone and evryone is saying I told you so.

If I’m the celtics is takes Devin Harris, young talent (which the Celtics want) and the 2012 Golden State pick, also thats the only way the salaries get close to matching without throwing in a guy like Ray Allen.

If you want to work Millsap or Jefferson into that deal you have to include another high salary player from the celtics to make the salaries match.

    green shoes ? wow … flashy !

  5. L.K.Anderson says:

I will be glad when March 16th gets here..

  6. I’d trade them Millsap and Harris for Allen and Rondo with maybe CJ as a salary filler. Allen and Rajon’s salary are 10 mill each while Harris and Millsap’s are a tad under that. I think its fair for both parties involved. We get the young pass first point guard (all NBA players have attitudes so I’ve heard enough about that crap). Plus one of the best shooters in NBA history to help guide Hayward and Burks in their development. The C’s get a good point guard who has tons of ability but just hasn’t worked out in our system. And Millsap who could provide them a better option for the future down low in the paint. Than we get to give all those minutes Paul is wastin to Favors so he can make somethin of them and actually match up against other power forwards. Oh and to the comment above, of course Ainge told Rondo they weren’t shopping him what’s he gonna say “yeah were lookin to move you to another team but not for a few weeks so keep it on the down low and still go out there and play your hardest” come on man! Did ya think he’d just come out and say yeah were gonna trade him, yep you guys caught us how’d ya know. Come on! Rondo is out the door the only question is where

  7. Browncoat says:

Danny Ainge was probing to see Rondo’s value. I say get him, people say he has an attitude but what i hear about him is that he hates losing and doesn’t like special treatment. Ever think he has been the odd man out in Boston all this time?

  8. Patrick says:

Well, lets look at this the way it was written. If your Boston, you need a PG in return.. You also are looking for young talent. Good contract etc.

Boston fan wants Al, Harris, GSW pick, and would gladly give Allen and Rondo away for that.

Utah fan wants to trade Harris and Miles for Rondo, give away broken pieces for an All Star.

Me I dont see a trade I would want to toss out there. They want too much, and I dont see great returns. Rondo would be a great addition, but he cannot shoot the 3 pt shot. Allen could, but for how long? Its a huge band aide. This yrs draft and free agent market for PG’s have enough to land us something.

If you could get him for say Miles, Harris and this yrs second round pick, I say go for it. Anything more, then your tossing in too much..

  9. Chad says:

First off I read that Ainge really wants Josh Smith from the hawks. So if we were going to somehow land Rondo a third team would be involved.

  10. Celtics do not want jefferson they saw the black hole he is and traded him

  11. Even if Rivers is protecting him that doesn’t mean much, i think they will trade him and if he does somehow come i think we will have to give up one of are bigs and a guard or draft pick?

  12. This needs to happen watching Rondo today solidified my opnion! Wow that kid is talented

  13. If I’m a c’s fan I’m praying ainge does not trade our best player.

I cannot understand why anyone would not want to have rondo on the jazz. He is incredibly skilled and tough. Only 3 pgs I would rather have and they are rose, dwill, and cp3. I don’t care about his attitude if we win games. His attitude makes him extremely tenacious. His stat line today was absolutely ridiculous. The jazz will not get him though. This rumor has no validity it’s just a rumor.

  14. pintz11 says:

THESE JAZZ FANS WHO ARE CLAIMING TO NOT WANT RONDO.. SMDH AT YOU.. JUMP OFF A BRIDGE.. TOP 3 POINT GUARD IN THE LEAGUE AND STILL HE’S UNDERRATED AND UNAPPRECIATED.. HE WOULD BE SO GREAT FOR THESE YOUNG PLAYERS IT WOULDNT EVEN BE FUNNY.. IM GUESSING SOME ARE JUST HAPPY WITH THE LOG JAM THAT IS STIFLING DEVELOPMENT.. JEFFERSON HARRIS MILES/ PICK WHAT EVER BENEFITS BOTH TEAMS.. DONT GIVE THAT BS ABOUT ATTITUDE.. EVERYONE HAS IT.. HIS GAME SPEAKS.. PG GETTING THE MOST REBOUNDS IN A GAME TODAY CMON.. SILLY

  15. I am not just someone who looks at numbers I actually watch the game. I watch how a person plays and how they are effective.

This is why Rondo SHOULD NOT come to the Jazz. He does not fit the system we currently run. He is a drive and dish player and that is how he gets how many assists he does. NO ONE on the whole team posts up. They are all jump shooters so they benefit from this. We are not that type of team at the moment. Could we become that team? Most defiantly but while we have Millsap and Jefferson on the team that clog the paint Rondo would not do well in our system. He is helped by the system that he is in and if he has attitude now how will he act when he is not able to get the ball to 3 future Hall of Fame players. I understand most superstars have attitude. But guess what? There are 3 other super stars on there team and guess what? They could not stand him at one point and I am sure they just put up with him so that they can win.

NOT A GOOD FIT WITH US!!

  16. you cant drive to the hoop at the same time people post up. Tell that to derek Rose. Burkes already does it, and a PG that gets a triple double with almost 20-20-20…? Get real guys Rondo is an elite PG. We actually do need a high caliber PG, any PG getting 20 rebounds is working on defense. This team needs a player that will consistently match competition. Trade Al, Harris, GS pick for Rondo and Allen. CJ and Milsap for Wallace and a 2nd round pick off portland.

  17. Guido says:

    Forget ´bout Rondo.

  18. KCJones says:

I’ve said this, but Rondo is going to be way overvalued by Celtics. They’re going to want too much of our youth, picks for him.

If we could get him for Harris and CJ or Harris and Bell, then throw in a future first rounder, then sure.

  19. Adam says:

To the first few comments- I know this was slightly old news. I just wanted to see what Jazz fans would think about Rondo and the trade proposals for him. I know Doc Rivers came out and said they want to keep Rondo, but like it was said earlier, things like that are said all the time before big trades are made.

Now about Rondo. People say he has attitude and he doesn’t fit into our system. That’s fair. Maybe he wouldn’t be the best point guard to ever play for us, but he’s a million times better than the point guard we have right now and he would make us a better team. I mean, come on. He nearly got a 20-20-20 yesterday and has gotten a triple double on multiple occasions. The man’s a beast. If he was with us, we would be a playoff team for sure. We don’t really need two lottery picks in the upcoming draft. We don’t need 4 big guys that could all start at PF if asked to. We have some garbage players that we could toss in if we wanted. We could rent a Ray Allen or Kevin Garnet for the rest of the season if that was necessary to make the trade work. A future for the Jazz with a starting 5 of Rondo, Burks, Hayward, Favors, and Kanter could potentially be really scary for other teams to face.

Last comment for now, If I’m a Celtics fan, I would be begging my team not to trade our best player.

  20. Adam says:

And according to the ESPN Trade Machine, both of the following trades work:

    Trade 1:
Boston gets: CJ Miles, Al Jefferson, and Devin Harris
Utah gets: Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo

    Trade 2:
Boston gets: CJ Miles, Paul Millsap, and Devin Harris
Utah gets: Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo

throw in a draft pick to make them happy on both trades if needed

  21. KCJones says:

I’m thinking they’ll demand one of Favors, Kanter or Burks, not Millsap or Al. And that’s why I think there’s no deal to be made.

  22. Guido says:

U still believe on ESPN trades???

  23. Adam says:

I find the trade machine fun, so yes
