Burk’s Other Talent

Alec Burks played his season high in minutes again tonight after doing so last game. First off, I would like to say it’s good to see him on the floor. His ability to penetrate and just be “instant offense” helps our team in a way we haven’t seen before. Although he had a bad offensive game tonight, he managed to stay on the floor.

His rebounding skill is something that none of us knew he had. Tonight he had 8 boards which is an impressive feat for a guard. I hope this shows management that he has value beyond his offensive gifts, and his play time is adjusted accordingly. Hayward and Burks have a bit of a yin/yang complex to their games, which I think with court time together could become a great thing.

Side note: Foye played like poop tonight. I like him, but after tonight, Burks showed he is already better than him.

Burks should be starting in my opinion but for some reason he is the 3rd string on our roster.

  2. Guido says:

No he’s not yet… he could be but hes not yet… Foye hasnt too… so hayward is ous better option in our extremly tallented bigs.

  3. Omar says:

Burks is a really good on the ball defender as well. Even if Burks shots aren’t falling he still impacts the game. My starting 5 is C4 and Marvin.

Trade needs to happen soon. I loved seeing Kanter stand up for himself, then Favors to back him up and tgen Burks getting in the mix. Thats the future. I think Corbin is losing the team, and the only players responding are the guys who Corbin has screwed: C4 and Carroll. Typical.

Some big needs ti happen back to back CP3 = bad news.

  4. Andy says:

2nd you Omar on the guys standing up for themselves. I would love to see that starting lineup, although maybe with Carroll instead of Marvin. My hope is that attitude would rub off on Hayward, which in my opinion, is the thing holding him back from taking the next step.

  5. Omar says:

For sure Andy, I think the group that came in together all get along well and fight for each other. I would love for them to get the load of responsiblity and I bet they would respond with great play.

  6. John says:

I like hayward running the point on offense and burks taking point on d. Hayward is great when he’s creating plays.

  7. I think Dallan preached this earlier in the season, Ive mentioned it too. If you look at Foye in career statistics, his games are streaky. Hes not a great defender or athlete, so his game really should be limited to a role player that you keep in if he gets hot. Burks has a full package. Hes a better athlete and better defender and obviously a better rebounder.

This is on going debate of developing youth by play and not bench time wins is starting to simmer. our youth are the more consistent players on the team. Our starters start games behind. I think Burks is showing what he can do with minutes and under better control. Burks is getting used as a scorer, so its no wonder his shots are rushed at times if he is worried about not putting up enough points in the little time he gets on the court.

giving Burks and Evans DNPS against athletic teams earlier this year is rediculous. more evidence for

    #fire corbin

  8. That was by far the best moment of this game. Haven’t seen anything like that happen since last season when Watson knocked the bacll out of Nowitski’s hand.

Havn’t seen that attitude from our big men since…wow I guess since Malone and Russel.

Other highlights included the bench outperforming our starting lineup as usual.

Yet another glaring example of Corbin’s idiocy: Demarre Carroll has proven that he belongs on the floor as a hustle player and defensive scrapper. A high impact guy who’s going to force turnovers and get into players heads.

Instead of taking the worst player on our team off of the floor (randy Foye), Corbin leaes Carroll on the bench until the final 4 minutes of the 4th quarter.

Apparently you can’t have DMC and Burks on the floor at the same time.

Tyrone Corbin = Coach of the Year
    Randy Foye = MVP!

  9. @Jazzed it is true! Foye is nothing more then a 15 min a night player. How long is it going to take for them to figure it out? Hopefully this home loss where we saw the same things we saw on the road will help for people to make a change. It is pretty evident a change needs to happen. But will it? I have been calling for change since last trade deadline and nothing happened…

The kid is something special. We should not miss the chance we have of developing a player like him. I say get him more involved, the kid wants to play, and wants to stay (check out last night’s brawl, he was first in line to defend his other young teammates Kanter and Favors). I think he’s a great fit, brings a lot of energy and could have a brilliant future, and I hope it’s right here in our beloved Jazz.

And yes, Burks and Carroll are totally compatible together, I mean their game doesn’t even come close to being the same.

    Carroll’s hustle + Burk’s energy and non-predictibility + Favors’ studness = FUN

  11. Omar says:

I dobt know how many of you remember this, but when KG was punking Al last year, it was Burks that was talking trash to KG and got in his face!! Burks is a fighter.

Me and pintz11 were frontline driving the Burks bandwagon and we got a ton of hate for it. Ppl even spent days arguing why Watson, WATSON, deserved to play and not Burks cuz he was “inconsistent” and had no shot (and Watson does, lol). All the Burks haters look pretty silly right about now.

Burks has as high a ceiling as Favors. Jazz have never had an ace scorer that can beat players one-on-one, and now we have Burks before he even hits his prime. If Jazz tradef him it be the biggest mistake ever. Like I said from day one (and some ppl said be patient its one game, Corbin knows what he is doing, he knows more thsn you, blah, blah):

    Burks >>>>>> Foye
    Burks>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tinsley
    Burks >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Watson

  12. pintz11 says:

thats not even his career high. i believe its nine.ill have to check. but i mean. even when he wasnt getting his early, the man he was guarding wasnt either. on ball defense is crazy. all im saying if some random guy who never seen basketball come and watch he would have great things to say about the kid and yet burks have so much to learn still.

  13. Arnell says:

Watching the loss to the WARRIORS last night made me think that CORBIN has lost control of the Team. He, and his Coaching Team, has failed to put out a Team that fights and executes.

Learning of Avory Johnson’s firing by the NETS today made me think that ‘why the heck are we still keeping CORBIN as our Head Coach’? The experimentation is over. Let us hire a real coach who has had the experience and the command of the players. My take?

IF the Jazz Management wants to keep the Jazz Team Spirit and Culture, WE all need to petition that he be relieved and give the Head Coach job to Coach Phil JOHNSON and have Hornacek as the 1st Assistant. Then, have MALONE become a part-time Big Man Coach and STOCKTON also as a part-time PG Coach and train BURKS to become one. Doable, right?

    Go Jazz!
