PHX

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Reports from the Sun’s side of things says they are interested in both Jefferson and Hayward. We all know Hayward should be untouchable, but Phoenix has a couple things we could want if we give up Jefferson. Gortat, Dragic, and Kendall Marshall are all interesting pieces but they also all take away something the FO is desperate to keep; flexibility.

Gortat – 7.2 million, 2 years

Dragic – 7.5 million, 4 years

Marshall – 2 million, 4 years

Jefferson for Dragic and Gortat would be great for the Jazz, but I’m pretty sure PHX wouldn’t do it even if we included draft picks. I think the deal would have to be Jefferson and a 1st rounder for Dragic and Frye (6 million, 3 years) or Wes Johnson (4.5 million, expiring contract) and then the Jazz would have to cut somebody.

Looking at it laid out, it seems that this move is a bit too rough for either team to just deal straight across.

I threw together a quick trade on the trade machine. ATL has said they want a big man, and they also want to maintain flexibility this offseason so they can make a run at big free agents.

Here is one with ATL as the third team:

We probably have to include one of the 1st round picks still, but I think this helps all teams reach their goals. Phoenix gets a legitimate scorer, a shooter,  and helps continue their rebuilding process, we get a solid pg and an expiring contract, Atlanta gets one of the better big men in the league for his price, and don’t add too much salary for the next season. If they don’t want Bell, we could just buy him out instead.

I dont see the suns giving that much up for just Al and Korver. Nice thought, just dont see it happening. How about Al, Kevin Murphey, and the GSW first round for Gortat, Johnson and the Suns first round (currently 7th).

If all worked out well, you use that pick for Otto Portor.

This is a build for the future for both teams. Highly doubtful either way.

Don’t think Suns would give up Dragic. Frye has heart problems and may never play again. They do want to move Johnson. I really thought Johnson would be a fine NBA player. He is one of those who would have to be in the right system.Gortat feels he will be moved. How about each team takes a bad contract. I think both expire this year anyway. AL, Bell, Watson/Tinsley for Gortat,Johnson Marshall. I think Marshall would work great in Jazz system.

@Patrick, if we could get that draft pick, I would rather it pair it with one of our other ones to move up and draft Smart. I like the idea though. I’m actually a big fan of Gortat. I don’t think PHX wants to give up their pick though while they are in rebuilding mode.

I wouldn’t even entertain offers were it not to include Kendall Marshall. The Suns are in a corner, they need a go-to guy to get off the ground, and Al fills that void. They’ve sent Marshall to the D-league a few times, and I think he’d thrive in a Jazz environment. I don’t like Dragic or Gortat much, and I can’t stand Jared Dudley, who’s said to be a piece in the deal. I’d much rather have Marshall.

  6. Stefano says:

i think they don’t leave go Dragic. I like Marshall and i love idea to have him in our team.

But i don’t see any player on suns roster that can make me happy about trade Hayward.

Jefferson, Millsap are rightly on the mix, but our young core (burks, hayward, favors) cannot be touched in my opinion

  7. Patrick says:

How about bring Detroit into the mix.

Of course we would also send our second round pick to detroit

How bout this benefits all 3 teams and teams keep flexibility.

@Patrick, good catch, that Otto Porter looks good. I’ve been following Trey Burke myself, pretty talented. Would love to see that guy in a Jazz shirt.

Can someone tell me what intangibles is? Like Otto Porter has an 8 in ‘intangibles’…
