DeMarcus Cousins-What would it take to get him??

Posted by: Anthony Hansen on July 11th, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

So earlier I made a post “Would trade Big Al for…” and I gave you three options..

1. Al Horford

2. DeMarcus Cousins

3. Greg Monroe

The majority of you said either Cousins or Horford, Mostly Cousins. Now this got me very intrigued… Yes Cousins is somewhat of a head case but he is also young… I think a front court of He and Favors could be deadly. So I guess what I am asking is so you think it’s a realistic possibility that we could land him?? Do you think a package of both Big Al and Millsap would do the trick?? Or what do you think it would take??

I wouldn’t trade Al and Millsap for him. Maybe one or the other and a filler like Watson or a sign and trade with Howard. I just think his attitude depletes his value. He’s not much of a team player. I’m not one for cocky players or players prone to violence. That’s one of my favorite characteristics about Hayward. He just laughs it off.

  2. L.K.Anderson says:

Cousins is so much of a head case that I will predict that in the comming season he will lose his cool and hit someone and be suspended for several games.Or be like the player that strangled the coach several years ago. Believe me it will happen..

  3. L.K.Anderson says:

Short of Heyward or Favors you could not pry Monroe away from the Pistons..

  4. Andrew says:

He’s like a bigger Metta World War. I’d see him as a liability.

  5. Gerald says:

L.K. I think you could get Monroe away for something other than Hayward or Favors.

  6. Cousins talent is unarguable, but the guy is a walking time bomb. I would rather he blew up somewhere else.

I’m not sure Horford is that much better then Jefferson that I want to be tied into his current contract. I would just assume keep Millsap, and have a enough money to pay our young guys the big contracts they will be shopping for in a few years.

I’m not sure what it would take to pry Monroe from the Pistons. He’s a very interesting player. I don’t ever see him being dominant, but I do like his game. He reminds me a little bit talent wise of a guy named Vin Baker, but I think he has a much better head on his shoulders.

  7. Metta World War was a key instrument in the Lakers winning 2 NBA titles. I love cousins fire on the court. If he could just grow up off it.

They would trade cousins for a serviceable center and a lights out shooter. The Kings are one of the worst outside shooting teams in the NBA. We don’t have the latter

  8. Guido says:

Think bout Kanter kids, today he was great, great movements, and better shape, I was really surprise about.

  9. roys says:

Only way you can land him is if you take a crappy contract back like Salmons. Say we swap Jefferson for Cousins, Salmons and Fredette. Unlikely but thats one of the few ways the contracts will line up properly.

  10. Jake says:

Causins CAN be a monster. It’s going to take him getting in to a proffesional organization that shows up to work and be professionals. I think he wants to win. He kind of reminds me of Barkley as a younger player. I like nasty attitudes. I don’t like cheap players and actors which he can do that as well, but he’s shown he can shoot the ball decent and can be an absalute moonster on the boards. He just needs to get on a winning team with out all the freestlye ballers. They don’t have enough maturity on that team. I honestly think the one thing Mo Williams will be is more of a vocal leader on the team. Much more than Devin Harris. It would take having players like Mo, and other guys that we have to show him the right way to show up.

Now would I really be ready to get rid of of both Al and Millsap? I don’t think we would have to do that, and I sure as heack wouldn’t want to send 2 of our best players to a western team to fight against in the years to come. I would consider sending one or the other for him but both? ummmmm don’t know about that. Financially its a good deal for us but why or how could sacramento even make those numbers work without sending other players in return and who would that be? I think the clsest we could do to make that happen is going to be with Millsap by himself, and if I were Sacramento I wouldn’t do it unless I simply had to much Youth and needed some leadership. Causins in his first year goes for 18 points and 11 rebounds lol… thats better than both al and millsap (even though he was the best player on a bad team thats amazing) for the sheer growth potential of this guy I would gamble and make the move. Here’s a couple of reasons why. the talent we can get in an upgrade for Millsap and Jefferson would be hard to do if we were trying to get a current allstar. But someone who looks to be a guaranteed allstar but has some risk could possibly happen. His contract is very small though so it would have to bring additionsl baggage or players in order to work and I don’t think it can. I think sacramento knows what they have and he is untouchable, headcase or not.

  11. Just remember he was on the block last year before the coach got fired and Jazz asked about him but everyone said they wanted A TON for him

  12. Back in the day, Dennis Rodman was considered volatile too, but when the Bulls signed him the team was able to control him just barely enough to make a huge difference. I can’t remember without googling it, but I think they won three or four more championships with Rodman on the team.

I’m not saying Cousin and Rodman are the same, but if the Jazz team and coaches could control him a bit, he might fit!

LK Anderson, that player who choked the coach was Latrell Spreewell. I hope I spelled his name correctly! :)

  13. OMG a player actually choked a coach??????? That’s insane! This must’ve been college ball LOL.

Yeah, Patrick, Rodman was a rebounding machine and an enforcer. Definitely helped the Bulls get some rings.

Cousins is a beast, but very immature a la Andrew Bynum. Still, they are two players you would want on your team. Still, I don’t see how we could have both Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins on the floor at the same time. Both guys want the ball, and both guys are paint attackers. Seems like they might have a hard time coexisting unless one of them took on a more mid range game. That would be a pretty brutal frontcourt, though. 2 Huge bodies capable of playing Forward AND Center…

How is Cousins on defense? I know he’s great offensively, but never watched him play D.

  14. JRN5150 says:

They already got their match made in heaven with Cousins and Robinson. I would deal Kanter/Jefferson but it doesnt make sense for the kings. The kings are going to have relentlessly aggressive frontcourt this year. It could be scary.

  15. Jazzaholic says:

Despite his personality, or lack thereof, there’s no interest from the Kings in any sort of trade.

That may all change, if there’s another big blowup. Until then, he’s staying put.

  16. Chris says:

I don’t think Cousins is on the trade block. That said, having Cousins on this team would be a nightmare. Corbin is an old-school coach, but doesn’t have a commanding enough personality to get a crazy person like Cousins to fall in line. He’d wreak havoc on our team and be a source of chaos on and off the court.

  17. L.K.Anderson says:

No Sprewell choked a NBA Coach was traded and played for a couple of more years..
There was nothing mean or being a head case for Rodman. Let’s just say he marched to a different drum..But being the top rebounder in the league brought the Bulls their rings. He was a key factor..I would agree Cousins is a time bomb..
