Meet
2012 Draft (possible) Choices: Wings
Posted by: Arnell on March 6th, 2012
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.DraftExprees.com have Bradley Beal (6′4″, 201 lbs, 18 yrs old, Freshman from Florida) projected to go to Utah Jazz (10th Pick from Golden State). Excellent ! See: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Quincy-Miller-5764/
If he is taken ahead by another Team, our next best future PG choice should be Austin Rivers (6′4″, 203 lbs, 19 yrs old, Freshman from Duke). See: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Austin-Rivers-5743/
Both are currently playing SG’s for their respective teams. But, the Jazz can convert either of them to a scoring PG (like Deron Williams). If so, please have them spend the next 2-Summers under the tutelage of John Stockton.
For Jazz’s 2nd Pick in the First Round, they should take Quincy Miller (SF, 6′9″, 200 lbs, 19 yrs old, Freshman from Baylor)? See: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Quincy-Miller-5764/
Also, if Jazz can buy a draft in the early 20’s in the First Round, I would like for them to consider Doug McDermott of Creighton University (6′7″, 210 lbs, 20 yrs old Sophomore) Currently playing PF for his father but should be an excellent SF for an NBA Teeam like the Utah Jazz – in the likes of: Klay Thompson, now with Golden State. He is a Shooter-Scorer, fiesty, with a big heart and will to win games. A Coach’s son. And, a Winner. See: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Doug-McDermott-6504/
Lastly, for the Jazz 2nd round pick (12th), why not take Jae Crowder (6′6″, 235 lbs, 21 yrs old Senior from Marquette) in the molds of Wesley Matthews. He is currently playing PF/SF – but, with the Jazz, he can play SF/SG. He’s got size and plays with grit, toughness, and a heart of a Winner. A strong defender (in the likes of Allen of Memphis Grizzles) and also a good 3-Point range at 36% (like Matthews).
What do you guys think?

On the wing, I would much rather have
SG – Jeremy Lamb, Bradley Beal, John Jenkins
SF – Harrison Barnes, Michael Kidd Gilchrist, Darius Miller
I dont really see why you always try to change SG’s to point guards for our system Arnell. Williams was a pass first guard more so than most these days. The last thing we need is a scoring point guard. We have one in Devin Harris. I think a floor general that likes to pass would be best because we have a solid prospect at SG that will demand the ball and two beasts under the basket that will eat up the ball at every opportunity.
@JRN5150: Deron Williams, when we drafted him was Illinois’ SG during their Final Four run. Actually, Jazz Management got the help of John Stockton in selecting him. And so, DWill was sent to Spokane (WA) and took lessons from Stockton before the season started. And, that is what I anticipate the Jazz will do also should they take Beal or Rivers this coming 2012 draft.
@Kory: I also very much like Darius Miller (SF). A 6′7″ Senior from Kentucky, and only 21 yrs old. He has been their go-to-guy in clutch moments recently and owns a 38.8% in 3-point land. He can be our dark horse in the 2nd Round as he is not currently in the radar (him or Jae Crowder will be an excellent pick)
I want Barnes and Marshall.
Listen to the notes on Marshall:
“A brilliant, ‘natural’ floor general … Understands how to control the flow of the game … Makes his teammates better … Has the height and offensive awareness to see the entire court at all times … Always dribbles with his head up … Rewards teammates when they run the court … Makes throwing outlet passes look effortless … Has a very advanced sense of timing … Understands when to slow or speed up the tempo of the game … A creative passer that also manages to be efficient … Low turnover rate … Operates equally well when running or playing in half-court sets … Already knows the nuances of making good post-entry passes … Can throw a highly accurate lob pass from anywhere on his team’s half of the court … Handles the basketball very well … Wastes no movement and doesn’t over-dribble (which is rare in young point guards) … Is a good penetrator, despite his average speed … Great reaction time and anticipation allows his to see plays before they develop … Extremely high basketball IQ … Smart defender that is capable of staying in front of his man … Great size for a point guard, standing 6′4″ … Might be the best passer in the college game.”
I think Kendall Marshall is our number one guy, the rest of the draft picks should be used to get an already established shooter.
There’s no point in takin Rivers when Marshall is clearly the top point guard and why would you want Brad Beal instead of a small forward like Perry Jones when you already have good up and coming shooting guards in Hayward and Burks
I don’t know how Arnell finds all these crazy players.
NO Perry Jones! He is a bust waiting to happen. He is more inconsistent then CJ miles!
@Tacorev & @John: Kendall Marshall is definitely in the mix of PG in discussion (it is DraftExpress.com experts that put Beal on the Jazz possible 10th pick from GS) – But, I do agree that it is Kendall Marshall PG play and record at North Carolina that puts him ahead of the curve vs. Beal & Rivers. So, we’ll see how these kids perform during this upcoming Final Four run and where the chips fall.
@Steve & @Dallan: Yes, I was hoping that we can take Perry Jones (Baylor’s 6′11″ SF) to become our Durant-like player – but he has been inconsistent. His coach even speculating that it might be worth for him to stay another year in College to help improve his game.
I dont think a sg is what we need… a pure pg is what this team needs!
Insert: Kendall Marshall
I dont care where we take him, i want him on this team! I dont want to transition a college sg to pg… i want someone leading the nation in assists, assist to turnover ratio… thats what i want!
