What about Roy Hibbert & Nicolas Batum in Utah Jazz Uniform?

Posted by: Arnell on January 30th, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

These are good character players, that fits in the Utah Jazz mold, whose contracts were not extended by their respective teams (Hibbert , 3.7 Million - Indiana Pacers; Batum, 3.2 Million - Portland Blazers) – and, therefore will become Free Agents this upcoming Summer (by July 1st, to be exact). – We can even add Chris Kaman (Center) in the mix, who is currently on his last contract year with the New Orleans Hornets.

Roy Hibbert is 7′2″ Center, 278 lbs, and only 26 years old.  Just what the Jazz needs for a Center. According to Hoopshype, “Just huge… Good rebounder… Nice touch around the rim… Works hard… Not explosive, athletic or quick… Has trimmed down and gained mobility, though… Good passer for a big man… Has developed into a top center in the NBA. ”

 Attended the Georgetown Prep.
Played college ball at Georgetown from 2004 to 2008.

Named to the All-Orlando Pro Summer League 1st Team in 2009.
Member of the Jamaican National Team.

Nicolas Batum is 6′8″ Small Forward,  200 lbs., and only 24 years old. Just what the Jazz needs for a Small Forward. According to Hoopshype.com, “ impressive athlete with incredible wingspan… Must add bulk… Still inconsistent.”

Grew up with Le Mans (France).
Selected by the Houston Rockets as 25th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Draft rights traded to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Signed with the Portland Trail Blazers in July 2008.

Won the French Supercup with Nancy in 2011.
Son of former pro basketball player Henry Batum.

I am hoping that we get either or both players and KOC will use the monies he saved from the Okur trade as well as some from the DWill trade, also Harpring’s to make sure that we have the needed key players for a championship.

What do you think, guys? Go Jazz ! ! !

I loved Roy Hibbert in college, would love to see the Jazz pick him up but I’m not sure they would go for him with all the bigs we have and with the promise Kanter has shown. However he is enormous and think he would be great for us, I just think they will be looking to spend any big money on a PG. Maybe I’m wrong, like I said, I would love it if we got him.

  2. I’d really like to see Batum in a Jazz uniform.
Word is Portland isn’t happy with his production this year and could be listening to some trade offers for him.
No to Roy Hibbert, I don’t think Indiana would trade him. I don’t think Indy would trade anybody right now the way they are playing.

  3. Patrick says:

I think both could be good pickups, but only for a good price. Both would could be role players, but not sure Roy fills a need, so you only snag him if its a value. Batum fills a need and may be best available this upcoming season. Again it has to be a value since he has not proven that he deserves a big paycheck. I don’t see either being a priority. Kamon, I don’t think so.

  4. Chris says:

I love the idea of picking up Batum. We’re in dire need of effective wing players, and his role has been severely reduced in Portland this year because of the presence of Gerald Wallace. He and the team are pretty unhappy with the situation as a whole, though the hidden truth is that he’s still been their 2nd-best player in PER for the minutes he has spent on the floor. He drains his threes and free throws and very rarely turns the ball over. His defensive fundamentals aren’t great but he makes up for them with superior quickness and wingspan.

Basically that’s actually the very #1 thing I’d like our team to do, now that you mention it. Batum’s a great fit.

  5. Batum I have liked since he came into the league he looks like an ak he doesn’t play like ak but he is long tall athletic and he has a decent shot he would be good in a jazz uniform. As for roy no we have a rebounder and a guy with a smooth touch around to rim. He isn’t that tall but then again there isn’t to many 7′2 guys in to league any more. But why bring anther big into the mix when you have four of them as is and all of them enjoy playing in utah for the most part. That’s hard to find a big and enjoy playing in utah I would risk giving up on of those guys especially the younger ons off the bench for roy at all

we are already loaded at the bigs. why not try to pick up a point or something of that sort.

  7. L.K.Anderson says:

I am surprised Hibbert was not picked up. I thought Indy was very high on him. I think Kanter is now and will be better anyway. I do like Batum. These players will be high trade bait and the new team can extend them.

  8. Patrick says:

Betting Portland tries to keep them both. Trade bait, doubtful. I actually hope they don’t trade, and someone front loads the offers. It’s time for them to be on the losing end like that.

  9. Patrick-Portland only has one….

I have been watching the Batum contract situation closely. I have a feeling he might get slightly overpaid this summer but he is one of the free agents I think the Jazz should really go after this summer. He does two things we need. Perimeter shooting and defense. However Josh Howard may be willing to sign again for a few more years at a much cheaper price. Will be interesting.

  10. We need a shooter, Batum: 4 3’s in the 4th quarter! Nuff said! ;)
