  1. TACOREV says:

Greivis Vasquez would be a solid addition, I’ve actually been holding out hope that the FO will swing a trade for him before the deadline. He’s young, pass-first, can score, defend, would fit in well here, and could probably be signed for cheaper than most relevant players on this list.

  2. I like -
    Vasquez for role/skill/affordability
    I Thomas for hustle/affordability/confidence
D Collison for ability to score/affordability
E Maynor demeanor/experience being in OKC/hunger to finally shine

All of these players provide nice talent and give us the financial flexibility to fill the roster with extra talent

  3. Patrick says:

Knowing that our Own Mo Williams is on the board, do we resign him, or go after one of the others? That will be an interesting thing this off season to see. It might all depend upon who we draft and who we feel are guys we need to retain. We have a bundle of free expiring contracts, and we need to retain at least 2 and decide on the third.

  4. Matt says:

Plenty of guards on there that have been good that are priced reasonably close to our two old men.

No reason to keep watson and tinsley if you can get a lowery, vasquez, maynor for maybe a million more if you go by current contracts.

  5. Steven says:

Patrick I think it might all depend on whether the team decides to use this cap space to make a play for a franchise type player or not, whether Mo stays here next year. With so much money potentially off the books the team can try and make a play for a player that could change the direction of this team. Imagine what this team with Favors, Hayward, and others would be like with Chris Paul here? You can see the effect he has on results at the Clippers when he does and doesn’t play. Now we are not going to get him, but the team still needs to try and until he signs on elsewhere. The FO office team, with all this flexibility would be remiss not to make that play. He is likely going to sign on again at the Clippers but that won’t stop Dallas trying to sign him, and it shouldn’t stop us. That said just because we won’t get Chris Paul, barring some sort of miracle, does not mean the team can’t get a franchise player. Deals are out there to be made, it won’t be at PG, but if Houston can make a play for Harden and win, then the Jazz can make deals too if the FO are ambitious and adventurous with their deal making.

I think the one area that we have been weak all year has been PG, we just don’t have the depth. We knew before the season started that Mo wouldn’t play every game for us, and although Tinsley and Watson are able back up men they really shouldn’t be running the Point as the main guy at this point in their careers. I would be happy for Mo to be the main guy again next year as long as we have someone else that was able to step up when needed. Right now we don’t have that. If we don’t get a better PG we need to keep Mo and try and find a new backup that is able play with the starting five when called upon.

  6. L.K.Anderson says:

Vasquez is signed through next year. QO the year after. So 2014-2015 he will be a RFA..

  7. Shane says:

I like Vasquez the best for the Jazz. But as LK pointed out, he’s not available as a FA until 2014/15. We’d have to trade for him if we want him before then.

  8. Patrick says:

LK, I stole the list, lol. Dang Hoopsworld.

  9. Ben Williams says:

Other than CP3, that is a pretty weak list. I wouldn’t sign any of those players (maybe vasquez, but he’ll get more from NO than we will offer).

I think this list works for the jazz being that it’s weak, and the jazz don’t get great players via free agency anyway. Stick to the draft and/or trade to find a pg.

  10. Steve says:

@ben yes it is a weak list, but i’ll take almost all of them over watson & tinsley.
I wouldn’t mind beaubois, isiah thomas, augustine, or bringing back maynor…. as a backup.
If looking for a starter, there’s 3 options i think are 1)realistic and 2)guys i want, and thats Mo williams, jose calderon or Kyle Lowry.

  11. disco says:

For the money Patty Mills is the perfect back up point guard. Jarrett Jack is probably a good pick up as would be Calderon. Basically someone who can run an offense and has a shot or could drive would be an upgrade.

  12. Jazzaholic says:

The vast majority of the list are NOT UFAs, so a trade of some sort, would have to be involved.
