Meet
March Madness Around the Corner

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.A few years back, I wasnt a person who got excited about this time of year. This year with a pair of first round draft picks which could end up anywhere from 14th to 20th, it may benefit us to keep our eyes open. Im not sure there are a lot of players to get truly excited over, but I did see a few players we should keep our eyes on.. Each of the players I chose, seem to have a balance to them.. Al is known for offense. Favors is known for defense. There are a lot of players in this draft who are known for the same, so I want to point out the players who seem to be balanced.
Marcus Smart PG 6′4″ 225 lbs
Trey Burks PG 6′0″ 190 lbs
Nate Walters PG 6′4″ 193 lbs
Lorenzo Brown PG/SG 6′4″ 186 lbs
CJ McCollum PG/SG 6′5″ 190 lbs
Otto Porter SF 6′8″ 205 lbs
Doug McDermott SF 6′7″ 225 lbs
Robert Covington SF 6′9″ 230 lbs
Solomon Hill SF 6′7″ 225 lbs
Anthony Bennet SF/PF 6′8″ 240 lbs
Tony Mitchell SF/PF 6′8″ 235 lbs
Cody Zeller PF/C 6′11″ 240 lbs
Mike Mascala PF/C 6′11″ 235 lbs
Now there are some guys I skipped over, but again I was looking more for a fit or complete help for our team. If I could pick and not have to worry about stacking up on the positions we are set in. We have Favors PF/Center, Kanter PF/C, Hayward SG/SF, Burks PG/SG. I also passed on Noel, Willie Couley, Isaiah Cannon, Alex Len, as well as several others who may shine in the upcoming month.
So who are you looking at or for to help the team long term? Go ahead and pick your favorites, several of which I left off the list completely. Ask me, my wish list would be for Otto Porter, Trey Burke, and Nate Waters. That said, I wouldnt mind several of the guys I listed above, some of which are presently slotted in the second round. Marcus and Nate would be my next picks as PG. Though we dont need another tweener, could Anthony Bennett be a another paul Millsap? Doug McDermott only made my list because his percentages are through the rough. The exciting thing is in my list of guys to watch, there are 13 of them, with 3 picks, its possible to actually land one or two of the.
Well, just wanted to look elswhere for a moment instead of focus on the negativity thats ben tossed about lately.

Some of the best basketball ever coming up. You can also watch the NIT. This is where I watched Burks and picked him as my favorite for the Jazz.
The tournament games in SLC three years ago were fantastic, featuring Gordon Hayward & the Butler Bulldogs! The back & forth Butler/Syracuse game followed by the double overtime Xavier/Kansas State on Thursday. Then the outstanding regional final as Butler advanced to the Final Four. All three were outstanding games. The traveling fans, students and bands were fun to talk to; the atmosphere was just outstanding.
Hopefully this year will be as good. I’d love to see both Gonzaga & Michigan in the ESA in a few weeks. Can’t wait!

Always a fun site, lottery generator. I wonder if we will see the Jazz in there? Many believe its between LA and us to be number 14….
With our luck and the way the Jazz have been playing Fakers will get in the playoffs and the Jazz will watch..
What’s the point of drafting anybody when Tyrone Corbin is just going give all of the playing time to veteran scrubs?
At the end of the season, we only have one veteran scrub under contract. Its sure to change, but you never know.
You know what could be considered a good draft, would be Trey Burk, Doug McDurmott, and Nate Wolters. In some mock drafts its possible.
S/O to my boy Shane Larkin at the U. After he takes the canes to the final four I would love to see the Jazz pick him up.
I have Trey Burke and either Tony Mitchell, Alex Poythress or Patric Young on my wish list
Kory, if your talking wish list Mine is Otto Porter, Trey Burke, and Tony Wolters. This would give is the additions we need. Trey has the complete package at the point and Tony would be a solid back up, again complete.
Otto Porter would be the SF that we need, who not only can score, but he seems to be good on the other end of the floor as well.
Trey/Tony/Burks
Hayward/Burks/Foye
Porter/Hayward/Millsap
Kanter/Millsap/Evans
Favors/Favors/Evans
Of course this is a future line up, that may take a season to truly start to blossom, but 3 yrs down the road with a few additions could be amazing.
I think that Kanter is going to blow people away, heck he is just 20 and at this point in Malones carreer he was still in college. Favors will be a beast, when he learns to stay out of foul trouble. The addition of a solid PG, and backup PG will add dimensions to the team. Add Porter and Hayward into the mix, and you have a complete team.
LOL, ment Favors/Kanter/Evans at the center.
Patrick, I’m assuming neither Milsap or Jefferson are re signed. We would need a beast to backup Favors at PF and a better backup/future option at PG. We wouldn’t need another SF as we would already have Hayward, Carroll and Marvin
Patrick, I think you meant Nate Wolters instead of Tony. I would prefer Ray McCallum as a third PG over Wolters.
A few players lately have contributed their success to our “get out and run” style of play. Jefferson doesn’t fit that style so he actually keeps guys like Gordon, Alec, Marvin and DeMarre from maxing out their potential. He and Favors are one of our worst player combinations. Although he is the best scoring Center we have had, he has to be dealt in a sign and trade this offseason. So we would have to find a serviceable Center to compliment Kanter off the bench as well
Kory, I think one of them is signed. Reason, Look into free agency and tell me who you want to pay big bucks to be on the team. Total salary has to come up quite a bit for the next two seasons to meet minimum total team salary. Marvin may be here next season, but he wont be here long term, and though I like the mad dog, I am not sure he is a solid starter for years to come. So unless you see someone worth tossing some big money at, one will be back. I assume it will be Millsap, but its only a guess.
Your right I did mean Nate Wolters McCullum isnt a bad choice and he may be whats left, but I still like Nate better.
Patrick, what about keeping Mo and Foye and adding David West for 8 mil and JJ Hickson for 6 Mil to replace Millsap and Jefferson. I’d play Favors / Kanter 28 min and West / Hickson 20
You keep Mo if you cannot upgrade him, either in free agency or the draft. I like him, I just keep hoping we can find someone a little more solid. Foye is a keeper, and you make him a priority over most provided he isnt trying to break the bank. Id keep him over bringing Korver back any day. Now if you can get hickson for 6 mil and West for 8 mil, that would be fine, but you will still need to add bank to get us up to minimum salary. Maybe you could add Jose for 8 mil a season for a coulple yrs.
I like Jarrett Jack better than Mo
Kory, dont dissagree with you there, but what about Chris Paul, Brandon Jennings, Jeff Tegue, or Jose Colderon? All Free agents this year, and I would put the first 3 above Jarrett..
Of course CP3 is the best option available but I personally like Jack better than Calderon, Jennings and Teague
Kory, lets do a short comparison. I’ll give you Calderon, but better option than Jennings and Teague?
Jack 29 yrs old 13.4 ppg, 5.7 ast, 3.1 reb, .411% 3pt
Jennings 23 yrs 18.4 ppg, 6.4 ast, 3.4 reb, .369% 3pt
Teague 24 yrs 14.4 ppg, 7.1 ast , 2.3 reb, .372% 3pt
All three players per are within .09 of each other. The main thing I am looking at is getting better in the future and staying that way. Do you want a 23 or 24 yr old growing with the rest of your young guys, or do you pick a 29 yr old player who has maybe 3 yrs left? If you still think Jack, then we must agree to disagree.
