PG PG which is a PG?

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. Its been interesting to watch how pationate people are about their favorites. You have Price lovers, because he is full of hustle. There are the Rose, Paul, and Williams lovers. People love Fredette, others like Knight. Harris is ok for some, some love him, and some hate him. With all the choices and options, I thought maybe we should look at this very important position, and get your thoughts on what you believe our needs are, and ask PG, PG, which is a PG?
We have a few options this season. Currently we have Harris under contract. Harris is due to make 9 mil is a former All Star PG, and as we saw at the end of last season, he seems to have plenty left in the tank. This season we are in the position of needing 2 more PG’s to fill our roster if we kept Harris, or, we need 3 more if we trad Harris away. Lets look a little closer at our options and let you make the call, PG, PG which is a PG.
Harris 31 mins, 15.8 ppg, 5.4 ast, 2.4 rebs, .357 3pt, due 9 mil next season.
Watson 19 mins, 4.3 ppg, 3.5 ast, 2.3 rebs, .336 3pt, could be due 1 mil next season
Price 12 mins, 3.3 ppg, .9 ast, 1 reb, .29 3pt, could be due 1 mil next season
Knight 36 mins, 17.3 ppg, 4.2 ast, 4.0 rebs, .377 3pt, compares to Jimmers soph #s. could make 4.3 mil.
Fredette 35 mins, 28.9 ppg, 4.3 ast, 3.4 rebs, .396 3pt, could make 2.1 mil.
Walker 38 mins, 23.5 ppg, 4.5 ast, 5.4 rebs, .330 3pt, could make 2.1 mil.
Sessions 26 mins, 13.3 ppg, 5.2 ast, 3.1 rebs, .200 3pt, going to make 4.2 mil next season
Stockton 34 mins, 18.2 ppg, 4 ast, 4 rebs, .364 3pt, could make 1 mil next yr
Now there are several scenerios that could happen next season. We work a deal with the Cavs and end up with Sessions some how. We could bring in Stockton as our 3 PG next season. We could draft Fredette, Walker, or Knight or any two next season. We could resign Watson or Price next season. Last we have Harris as our only current PG under contract. We all know we travel with 3 PGs per season. So what combination do you want to see next season?
We could keep Harris and groom our PG of the Future either Knight, Fredette, or Walker. Then we could resign either watson or price or bring in maybe Stockton. We could draft two PGs, and resign Watson or Price, or Bring in Stockton. We could get Sessions in trade, draft Knight, Fredette, or Walker and resign Watson or Price or bring in Stockton. As you can see there are many options for our PG position. So lets rank them and see what you think.
Harris was an All Star. He is a solid NBA player. If we used a ranking system of 1 to 5, 1 being the best of the best and 5 being the worst I would rate him a 2. So I will compare he other PGs to Harris, since he is our starting point. Harris is a 2. Knight has the potential to be better than Harris, so I must rate him a 1. Fredette may be as good as Harris so I give him a 2. Walker could be as good as Harris so I give him a 2. Watson is a solid backup, but he is aging. I will be generous and give him a 3. Price I will give a 3 because of his effort, but again that is generous. Sessions I will give a 2. Stockton is a tough one. He if like his father has the possibility to be a 1. Because of his late blooming, playing for a small school etc, I will be generous and give him a 3. So if I had to rank these guys in order it would go Knight, Sessions, Harris, Fredette, Walker, Stockton, Watson, Price.. Again this is just my ranking, you may figure it differently.
Now its time to play PG, PG, which is your PG. I couldnt list all the possibilites for next season, so I will let you guys be creative. Pick the best 3 guys for our team next season. Who you want, who you dont want etc. You can either play your favorites, but it would be nice if everyone could put that asside and try to pick best for the team. Try and make it realistic, and show us how it works out on your Jazz team. Good luck and have fun.

What if we could land Kanter, Knight, Fredette, and Singleton or Harris? Then Knight, Fredette, and Stockton could be your PG’s.
Send Millsap and Miles to the Cavs, for the 4th pick and Sessions. Harris and Sessions to Sacramento for Tyreke Evans and the 7th pick. Gives you the 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 12th picks. Draft Kanter, Knight, Fredette, and Singleton or Harris. Lineup;
Knight/Fredette/Stockton
T Evans/Hayward/Knight
Hayward/Harris or Singleton/J Evans/Carter?
Favors/Kanter/Okur
Al/Kanter/Okur
wow ! Price 9 assists in 12 MPG … you should have mix it with the turnovers … LOL
Being an old school guy, I stick with PGs having the pass-first, or better said “system-first”, mentality. Unfortunately, I can’t see much of them in your list if I believe the stats. Maybe Sessions who sure will be in the trade blocks on june 24th?
There is a decimal point in front of that 9. He got .9 assists. Wonder why it looks so small.
So he has to play more than 120 minutes to reach 10 assists … (no comment needed).
I like the idea of trading D. Harris to Portland for A. Miller and their #21 pick. Then we draft Knight and re-sign Watson. So Miller/Knight/Watson. Miller would be a better mentor than D. Harris, he fits our system better, he’s cheaper, and his career will be at its tail end at about the time Knight will be ready to take over the reigns.
Harris is solid, but I still question whether he is a very good fit in our system. We really didn’t see much of him last year, so it’s hard to say. Watson did well last year, and I wouldn’t mind resigning him. Price, on the other hand, was awful last year. He couldn’t make anything most of the time. When I think of him, I think of when he air-balled a clutch free throw in our home loss to the Wizards. That moment could be used to describe his entire season. Sure, he’s a nice guy and hustles, but I’m beginning to wonder if he’s even good enough to play in the NBA. I’m open to trading Harris, but Harris, Knight, Watson is not bad for our PG position.
I agree with Shane if you can get someone like batum with him.
If the Blazers want Harris bad enough I would say ok but the Jazz get Matthews. Then say the Jazz will take Miller if the Blazers take Bell.
Mathews and Batum or nothing. LOL dont want no has been, we are building for the future.
@ Patrick: agreed we’re building for the future – nothing lost by bringing in Andre Miller for a year or two to mentor Knight and help run the team, especially while getting another asset (draft pick or another player) along with it….just my opinion
Uck, still. Send Harris to Portland for Mathews, Batum, and Babbitt. Or Mathews, Batum, the #21.
