Starting to warm up to the vision…

The more I read, the more I like it. Mo Williams and Marvin Williams could actually be much better than one would assume at first sight. I was one who said that Harris was playing out of position last season. He was a SG, not an elite one, but a very good one. The bad thing was we were using him as a PG. He did the best he could, but his game is that of a SG. Only Elite Shooting guards are known for being combo guards or PG’s in the league. The rest are described as tweeners or what ever else you want to put on them.

So what does this have to do with Mo and Marvin? We play a kind of game that both can excel at, instead of making them play whatever we need so that they get playing time. Even if they dont do any better than they did on their former teams, they are both upgrades at the PG and SF positions. The great thing is, if we are right, they both will improve and be a much needed improvement over what we had last season.

Next, they make the whole team better. Remember how teams started squeezing the paint last season, making it harder on our bigs. Remember how we made an average of 4 3pt shots a game, usually by different players last season. How other teams were making as many 3 pt shots as we attempted, which was dismal at best for us. Remember Paul and Al both getting the ball and the double and triple team seemed to materialize as they got the ball.

Now throw in 2 guys who you have to respect or they will make you pay from the perimeter. I bet if teams try and crowd out our paint this coming yr they pay for it. Are we where we want to be, probably not, but I doubt you see us scratching to make 8th place in the playoffs this season.

I am actually excited to see what else KOC has in store. I would call this a successful off season if we see Bell and CJ in other uniforms, it would be icing on the cake. No more second highest attempts, at a very poor rate. Its really too bad that they couldnt pull off a deal to swing something like this.

Magic get Al, AK (sign trade 5 mil), NJN 2015 first round, 2017 first round, and Tinsley,
NJN get Howard, Bell, CJ (sign trade)
Utah get B Lopez (sign trade 6 mil), Brooks, NJN 2013 first round.

Then we sign Paul to an extension starting at 8 mil. Could be a very different team, especially if brooks shows some signs of making a good back up PG.

Feel free to put them in any order you want. The nice thing is everyone would have a hard time agreeing on a lineup for the talent below. A season to learn to play with each other, another to age and then what do you have?

Mo, Burks, Watson
Hayward, Brooks, Burks, Murphy
Marvin, Hayward, Carroll, Murphy
Sap, Favors, Kanter, Evans,
Favors, Kanter, Lopez

toss in Green or Ilayosava. In time you have depth and major talent. Add shooting and defense. Hahaha. I cant seem to right one of these without coming up with some wacked out trade scene. But gets the mind to thinking, doesnt it.

The more I dont hear any news about Green signing offer sheets, the more I feel hes a Jazzman. Jazz are going to make a trade, balance the checkbook, and sign Green. (Cortney Lee is now a FA, would be a good backup plan).

Jazz gave up a ton of 3s because Als P&R is horrible, other players rotate and the Jazz give up wide open 3s.

  2. Patrick says:

Could get him as a sign and trade. Miles and AK could be used for pieces for that.

interestng moves are on tracks guys.

Your proposed roster looks good, Patrick. Don’t forget Tinsley. The Jazz picked him up again.

Still a lot of point guards. Wonder if Watson (and Bell who’s still on contract) will be traded next? We could also use future draft choices.

Lopez would be a great addition to the center position. We would then have centers who can match up against teams who basically play 2 PFs (e.g., Thunder and Heat). And we’d still Kanter to play other teams’ lumbering centers.

Hopefully, the Jazz have solved the outside shooting issue. Gordon, PLEASE play with more confidence this season. You have the potential.

Coach Corbin, are you developing different looks in the offense that takes advantage of each player’s strengths? And do we have quick players who can guard the 3-line when necessary?

Hope we can see some of the Summer League games in Orlando.

I like everything you said until you mentioned Lopez. I want Al traded but I just really don’t like Lopez and the way he plays.

I like your thoughts on this one Patrick. That trade scenario would be perfect

  7. Gerald says:

I don’t think the Jazz can sign and trade. If I’m correct, AK had to be on the roster last year. They still have his bird rights though.

  8. Jake says:

I think we are a playoff team with the team he have now. If we get Danny Green we could easly be a top 3 to 5 seed in the west and a continder.

  9. L.K.Anderson says:

Right you cannnot sign and trade AK.So he cannot be used as a piece. I do like the AL in the three way for Lopez and Brooks. Patrick will have the icing on his cake. Bell burned his bridges and CJ is now the former Jazzman. I don’t see Howard comming back with Marvin aboard.. Green in a Jazz uniform would make it a Ice Cream cake..

If we could get lopez, he would be starting, not sitting behind kanter and favors. He is a talented big man! He’s soft, and doesn’t rebound very well… but he’s still very talented offensively.
I too love these moves for Mo ‘n Marvin! Our PG and SF both shot like 29% from 3 last year… M’n M both shot 39%!! Thats a 10% difference which is huge!! I really like the move for Marvin! He is a very solid SF, and a very good fit to the team here. He’s a team guy and scores within the flow of the offense. SOLID defensive player as well, he’s long and athletic.
the offense is gonna benefit tremendously from having 2 more guys who are respectable from 3! its gonna open things up for Favors and Sap and Jefferson… Mo, gordon, and Marvin on the outside, our bigs down low, pretty lethal offense.
This team is gonna be solid this season.. i would say we can push for a 6 spot atleast! We’ll have a better idea after the offseason of what teams around the western conference look like. But right now i would say a 6th seed. The season after this one tho is when were gonna make a huge push!
