Trade Idea

Who will be traded?…I think I like scenario 2 better.

Scenario 1- We trade Mo Williams (8.5 M) + Al Jefferson (15 M) for Bargani (10 M) and Calderon (10.5 M)?

That would lock Bargani up for 3 years, and we would likely be able to sign Calderon at a discount next season if he plays well for us season.  Calderon is a 9 apg guy, and could be one of the few guys in the league that would make the best use of the Jazz’s offensive system..  Toronto could throw in a 2nd round pick or a benchwarmer to make the numbers match up better.

Or…Scenario 2-  Trade Milsap ( 8 M ) Jefferson ( 15 M ) and Foye (2.5 M) for Bargani (10 M), Calderon (10.5 M) and Ed Davis (3 M) .

Ed Davis was the 13th overall pick of the draft 2 years ago, and has averaged 7 ppg, 7 rbg, and 1 bpg in 24 minutes of play over 2 seasons .  So we loose Jefferson and Milsap, but get back a brilliant stretch 4 in Bargani, and a solid defensive player/ rebounder up and comer showing alot of potential so far in Ed Davis. We also get to see how Calderon plays in a contract year for the Jazz.  Mo Williams will have to play backup pg/sg as a sixth man for the jazz, but with Milsap gone, who better to step up as 6th man … for the year. . .

I like the idea of a frontline of Bargani, Favors, Kanter, and Ed Davis, assuming of course that Kanter and Ed Davis develop.  They both show alot of promise shooting over 67 % from the free throw line last year. Ed is a Career 55 % shooter as well.  We still keep Mo Williams and upgrade at PG while opening up the frontcourt a little bit to let the guys play into their potential.   .   .

Starters : Calderon, Hayward, Marv Williams, Favors, Bargani  ( 4 guys who can bomb 3’s at a high percentage defensive stoppers in hayward williams and Favors.)

Bench: Mo Williams(can really bomb 3’s), Burks, and Ed Davis/Kanter splitting time as 8th/9th men getting 20 min each to start the season.  Hayward would rotate to the three for half of his minutes giving burks and mo    mo’ time to play at the one and two.

I think it’s worth a shot.  After all we are going to loose Jefferson anyways next year and is it really worth it to pay Milsap 11 Milion a year for 4 years?  I think this lineup would mesh better than the current team we have. . . but then again it is a bit of a risk.

    Good idea, trade Big Al.

One reason I think Toronto would be willing to accept trade 2 is because they signed PG Kevin Lowry from Houston to a deal this offseason. That sures up the the PG spot and allows Lowry to take Calderon’s place at PG.

  3. I like this. Actually I love this.

At this point Id trade Al for ONE unprotected 1st round pick, so anything more than that is a steal in my opinion.

I really would like Millsap to sign a two year 10M extension and then re-evaluate his position in 2 years which lines up with Burks and Kanter. But if its clear Millsap wants no part of transitioning to the bench, I say we should trade him and hope to draft one of the bigs in 2013 draft. Its loaded with front court players to developed behind Favors and Evans.

  5. If your going to trade sap and al to toronto at least trade for derozan bargani isnt worth that. I still liked the three way trade i did on the trade machine a while back. It was a three way deal between the jazz the bucks and the kings. We send sap or al to the bucks for ellis then they send larry sanders and we send raja the kings for thomas.

  6. @Trevor no way do they give up Thomas for Raja and Sanders. They would give us Fredette but I do not want him. Cause then we woud just have Jimmer fans crying cause he is does not get minutes when someone who was picked last in the draft took his place in the lineup. Obviously people severely over estimated who he was and he should never have been drafted where he was.

He would have been great on New York or Phoenix but I knew the Kings was a horrible fit and there are only a few teams he would work on. It is kinda like Steve Novak from last year. No one had even heard of the guy last year was his 6th year and he finally found a team he would work for cause all they needed and wanted of Him was to shoot threes. The thing is drafting a player in the lottery you want more then a three point maker.

  7. They got brooks i think thomas would be easier to get then you think dallan. It would depend on what way they would want to go because eventually they would both demand starting time which the kings wouldnt be able to provide and also sanders is a project but he could become a decent player and it gives them more size on the team. So you dont have an undersized center backing up cusins.

The trade works, but Utah loses -2.4 ppg, -2.9 rpg and gains +5.5 apg.

It shrinks the Jazz salary by $2m, which is allowed, when both teams are under the luxury tax apron.

Do you really want Bargnani, instead of Big Al? He’s not a low post presence. He’s soft defensively, but Big Al isn’t all NBA on defense either.

Calderon would be an offensive upgrade over Mo, but his defense isn’t as good.

    Would the Raptors do it?

I think they consider Bargnani a future building block, but would like to dump Calderon’s salary. However, they might be thinking the same thing, bring back Jose at a reduced salary next year.

I’d guess that, if the Jazz were to add a 1st round pick, they might bite.
