Meet
Utah’s Big Three
Posted by: champ on July 28th, 2010
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.I believe our big three is Dwill, Millsap, and Jefferson. If Memo is healthy is it Dwill, Memo, and Jefferson? Does AK even belong in the conversation if he plays like an all-star? If you look at the “big three” on other top teams like Boston (Peirce, Garnet, Allen), Lakers (Bryant, Gasol, Bynum), Heat (Bosch, Wade, James), and Bulls (Boozer, Noah, Rose) we can beat any of them three on three. Now add our other starters and role players, I think we’re very competitive and a top 5 team in the NBA. Our big three is as good as any. Since the heat are being given rings because of just three guys, why can’t we. Dwill=all-star, Big Al=will be an all star, Millsap=if he were a starter he would be right in line to be an all-star, if Booz can do it, he can do it better. What do you think? that goes for you too Ger.

Well, I think Bynum is off and on. You would have to make an argument for Fisher. (Even though many Jazz fans hate him.)
But I think you are correct on this one good sir (besides the obvious misspellings of some of their names, haha)
We know D Will is and Allstar. He’s been one for years now, just not named until last year. Big AL. I think he will be our Southern Destructor for other teams. I don’t know how to explain it. I just have this huge feeling in my gut.
Millsap, if he can hold the starting minutes. We all know he is a great player, but that year that Booze the snooze was out on injury for a long time, Millsap went strong for a while, but fizzeled out. That’s not something a starter/all-star should or would do. Maybe he just wasn’t ready for it, or he didn’t have enough help on the second string.
Memo, we need his legs back. He isn’t something great, but we use him in a great way.
I’m not quite convinced that Millsap is up to the level of being the third guy of the big three, but maybe he will prove me wrong. I hope that he can. I think that AK or even CJ could be the potential members of the “big three” for the Jazz if Millsap isn’t.
I forgot about AK. Sorry to say but he is a really good defender. Think about having AK back to form, how the defense of both AK and Bell on the floor would be. AK knows he isn’t worth his contract, but he also knows that he is a good player. He was back for the playoffs, and already started to look decent. We have to give him some credit and think he is getting back into proper form.
I feel really good about AK in our new rotation. I think his productivity and numbers will increase significantly if he’s a starter with him starting at the 3 and then moving into the 4 for Millsap with CJ taking his place. I don’t really see Millsap being a big scorer this year, maybe 13-15 points a game. A solid piece, but not one of our biggest role players. Our offense should be utilizing Memo more this year and he should be starting once healthy with Al at PF and Millsap coming off the bench.
Thanks for letting me know I spelled some names wrong Ger. I’m sure you do that to all of us, OR is it your picking on me? What is it? hahaha jk!
Champ, you know its for everyone. Why would I make you out to be spell. And not the small bus kind of spell. haha. Actually, I think I might just make it a you thing. That way you know you get a hard time from someone atleast once a day.
Wow, did I ever just have a brain fart, not “spell”, but special. I totally just ruined myself. Curse me for my fingers having minds of their own. HAHAHAHA
When you have impact players at balanced positions on the floor, it’s allways more interresting (a reason why LBG+Wade may drive to some last-shot conflicts). So if our big three includes Deron (PG), CJ (SF), big Al (C), it we’ll be way better than Deron (PG), Millsap (PF), big Al (C).
Anyway, I think the versatility of the jazz players is their best weapon on the floor. It’s much more important to be able to play “big” or “quick” or “hustle” at different moments of the game.
Sorry Gerald for possible spelling errors.
Remembering the days of Stockton and Malone and Hornacek, we have that potential with DWill and Jefferson. The question then is who might be the third major contributor offensively speaking? Bell, CJ, Hayward?
But the triumvirate worked because Stockton was a great passer and manager of the ball, Malone was a strong inside presence, and Hornacek was the outside threat. This has been the Utah Triangle offense (no apologies to Phil).
DWill is a known quantity. Jefferson has demonstrated he can be that inside presence but how will he perform following his surgery? Same question for Bell. CJ has been sporadic in the past. Hayward is a rookie.
As much as I enjoy and appreciate Millsap’s efforts, he may be limited by his lack of height (unless he develops into a Barkley-like PF). Memo? Have we seen his best already? AK?
Potentially, Millsap, Memo, and AK can provide energy off the bench. And I do believe successful NBA teams need to have a strong bench—great role players. One or two who can be “hot” (offensively or defensively) coming off the bench each game.
so long as this team doesn’t struggle, without Memo, I don’t think he starts another game this year….
I think the third guy has to be AK; he can just do so many things. In a few years that guy will be Hayward since he is a Hornacek style player (pass, shoot, rebound). Miles may be it this year and Millsap will be leading scorer in some games. I like that we have so many options. It makes me excited knowing that in any one game a different player can break out depending on what the defense throws at the Jazz. We can certainly compete with anyone.
@JC, I agree about Memo. If we thought he was slow last year (and he was), wait until he comes back from this injury. He will be a back up C the rest of his career. A great change coming off the bench though.
Funny you guys talk about Millsap fizzling. Hmm lets think back. He had 19 double doubles. Not bad for a back up, undersized young guy. But then you look at memo, AK, and Boozer being behind the bench out hurt, you have to say, what backup? He did not have any backup. For the Jazz to be in the position they were with only one Back up PF and two rookie centers, well that was a damn good showing. Last season, he played side by side with Boozer a good portion of the time. As an undersized center, with the Jazz’s use of a center offensively, of course his numbers fell, he hasnt got the range of memo. Look for that to change this season, you may see memo on the bench a little more than you think if we can get some outside shooting, from CJ and all the new help… I say Jefferson and Milsap will own the paint. Just my observation.
Our big three cant compare to the Miami Heats big three. Not even close.. I’m one of the biggest jazz fans there is, but you’re talking about Wade, James, and Bosh!! Every other team we can do damage against. The Lakers have alot of length they will always give us trouble. But I like our Utah Jazz team as a whole. Not just big three. Looking forward to a GREAT season out of this team. Go get ‘em boys!!!!
Hmmm I think that Gerald and Champ need to reread their own posts and mine. I am in agreement on the why Milsap Fizzled, but in disagreement on Milsap being pushed to the bench by a healthy Memo. Or Milsap not being ready for the starting role. I guess we shall see, but if I am right and Memo comes back first slowly (as he should), and Milsap and Jefferson do as well together as I think they will, Okur will be the one coming from the bench. My thoughts no one else’s but you can look around to make sure I didnt copy and paste. Oops i used the same word you did, does that mean Its not my thought. If its not my thought, you had better get out of my head….
Alright Pat, you didn’t copy and paste. No more shoot now ask questions later from me. You convinced me, if you ask me its Ger who started it. Stop ruffling feathers Ger.
