Meet
This Will Be Fun

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. How cool was it watching the Derrick Favors/Demarcus Cousins match-up last night. Was that basketball or MMA? Ever since the trade I’ve been sucked in by the “Favors potential” dynamic. I’m watching intently for signs of what he will become and how good he’ll be. What will be his go to move? Is he comfortable in the post? Does he prefer to back his defender down or turn and face? Is he a willing passer? How hard does he run the floor? Is he a quick leaper? Does he want the ball in crunch time? What brand of shoes does he wear? Can he dunk over cars? I already can tell he’ll be a good defender. Cousins is clearly the better player this year, as he was last year in college. He’s bigger, more aggressive, and carries a huge chip on his taped-up shoulder. But who will be the better power forward in 3 years? Let’s throw in a couple more promising young PF’s: Blake Griffin and Kevin Love. I expect all four to eventually become the best players on their teams and go to all-star games. Griffin has already proven to be one of the league’s best, and if he develops a mid-range jumper so he doesn’t have to take such a pounding to get his points, he could be one of the best ever. Love’s ability to rebound coupled with his soft touch in the paint will make him an elite big man for a long time. The range on his jump set shot extends clear out to the 3-point line, making him even more dangerous. Cousins is just freakish in his athleticism and skills. If he can mature mentally, which kind of seems unlikely, he’ll dominate. Then there’s Favors. The best thing he has going for him is that out of the 4, he’s got the most room to improve. By the end of next year, I expect him to be a double-double guy. In 3 years, I believe Derrick will be blocking shots, angrily dunking on opponents, getting to the line, drawing double-teams, and leading the Jazz deep into the playoffs. One thing is for sure; it will be fun watching the rivalry develop between these guys during the next decade.
…..My take on Millsap. Yes, he can play the 3. But only against certain teams. On offense he can cause match-up problems but defensively it is asking too much of him to defend quicker, perimeter oriented players. I wouldn’t give up on the idea if I was Coach Corbin but would use it wisely. Kind of like the way the Knicks and Hornets used Anthony Mason back in the day. I can see Jeremy Evans playing a little 3 as well, but not on a nightly basis. Gordon Hayward and Harrison Barnes will be getting most the minutes at small forward next year for the Jazz.
…..In my younger years, I would question Coach Sloan sometimes. Usually his rotation, his defensive strategies, his neck tie’s, etc. Time and time again, he would prove me wrong and make me look like the idiot that I was. I eventually got to the point where I wouldn’t question him at all, fully trusting his judgement and knowing he always had a reason behind what he was doing that most people didn’t understand. When Coach Corbin took over, I found myself treating it the same way, trusting his every move. Will it stay like that, or will I start to critique his decisions? One thing I can’t criticize is Ty’s ties. In fact his whole wardrobe is fantastic and he looks spectacular.
…..Rumors about Jerry coaching the Lakers next year? I don’t see it happening. I wouldn’t blame L.A. if they went after him, but I don’t expect J-Slo to be coaching Kobe, Pau, or anyone else. He’s done. At least I hope he is.
…..Who wins more games next season: University of Utah’s basketball team, or their football team. My money is on the guys with helmets. Dr. Chris Hill could have done worse than Larry Krystkowiak, but I expected him to do better. The Utes have some good players on their roster so hopefully Krisco can get them to play well and it will all work out. But if not, Dr. Hill might get demoted to Nurse Hill.
…..Aint sure who this Kyle Weaver guy is but I like him a lot. He’s got a little Wes Mathews in him. I hope they bring him back next season. Plus his last name reminds me of this old movie I used to watch as a kid. I wonder if he is related to the “Weavawww” in this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KezvwARhBIc.

i love the stupid video clip.
LOL, loved the video. Reminds me of the post just before this one. Take the box is like selling the team.. LOL just so stupid..
Harrison Barnes is staying in college, mark my words, and even in the off chance that he declares he’s a top 3 in this weak draft class.
If Jim Calhoun doesn’t retire I’d be willing to bet that Kemba Walker plays his senior season. Making this pool all the more shallow.
I love the power forward comparison. I am super excited to watch every one of those guys over the next few years. I would love to see Favors get some of that Cousins nastiness.
And the “Nurse Hill” line made me laugh out loud. I guess I can’t read your blogs during boring work meetings anymore.
by the way… WE DON’T NEED NO STINKING BADGERS.
Harrison Barnes is staying in school, and Kemba Walker is going to come out now that he won a titile. He already said the lockout doesn’t mean anything to him this is his quote. “If i got a good shot at making that kind of money, why wouldn’t I.”
I too, am very intrigued by Favors. He shows brilliant flashes.
Sure am glad I spend 1:30 watching your clip. I will never be able to watch Weaver without thinking of the Wheel of Fish now. So stupid.
Speaking of so stupid, Kemba would be so stupid to stay in school. He finished his degree in 3 yrs and graduates this month. He’s gone.
Barnes would be a great pickup. Jazz would have Hayward, CJ, and Barnes at the 2-3 position. CJ is the old guy in that bunch, and he’s 24. Oh yeah, they also have Raja’s corpse for the next 2 years. I like Raj, and thought it would be a good pickup for the Jazz, but was wrong. Now I hope he can accept a mentoring role on the team for the young guys … an expensive mentor. I don’t think many teams would be willing to trade for his contract because it’s two more years.
