Meet
Watching a Game with Jerry

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.I remember back in 2003 talking with some friends about how Coach Sloan received a 7-game suspension from the NBA for shoving an official in the chest. We thought there would be nothing cooler than going to a sports bar or even better, Jerry’s house to watch one of the games with him. Can you imagine the comments, humor, and insight he would offer?
I haven’t seen Jerry Sloan around since his press conference. I imagine he is kicking back at home, driving his step-son to school, doing a little laundry, maybe some grocery shopping, working on tractors, napping, cross-word puzzles, yelling at kids to get off his lawn, quilting, watching QVC, carefully sorting junk mail, breaking wind and blaming it on the dog, and all the other cool things that 68 year-olds do. I wonder if he is watching his former team on TV. And if so, is he missing not being involved in the game? Does he miss the high fives, butt-slaps, creating a game plan, trying to outsmart the opposing coach? Is he itching to mold Derrick Favors into the next Mailman? I doubt it. I bet Coach Sloan is happy and content with his decision to step down. I imagine he checks the box-score and the standings in the paper while drinking his coffee, or he probably checks out some blogs on utahjazz360.com. Then he will mumble an F-bomb or two under his breath, smile, and go about being a “dizzy duck”.
So Jerry, I know you’re reading this. Let’s hook up to watch a Jazz game together. Don Nelson went to a popular watering hole to watch a Mavs game with a bunch of local fans during a one-game suspension he had while coaching in Dallas and said it was the most fun he had as the Mavericks head coach. And afterwards, we’ll go to Sizzler.

(not Jerry’s best moment)
…..K-Mart and AK handled the ball in the last second of yesterdays game just like I handle a stinky, poopy diaper that someone gives me to throw away. Bizarre.

“Come say it to my !@#$%^&* face!”
Haha man I already miss Jerry
This is a very entertaining post and who could not use a little entertainment right now. I don’t think Jerry is quite as happy about stepping down as you imagine him to be, but I agree it would be awesome to be around while he was watching a game and I think he might have aomething to say about a player missing a game because he had a “cold”?
i disagree about that not being jerry’s best moment.
Great video. Although not his finest moment, it shows his “never back down” attitude, no matter the person, score or situation (even a head cold, as Deb pointed out). That’s what we all love about Jerry. I’d love to watch a game with him.
Other highlights of the video for me:
- Young AK with a look of “this is nothing compared to what goes on in European leagues”
- Ostertag
- Stockton, the smallest guy on the team, escorting him out
- Booner with hair
Nice job lip reading TACOREV. You’re right Deb. J-Slo is crazy competitive so it probably bothers him how it all went down. I wonder what he feeds his fire with now. JP-I guess I never looked at it that way but I definitely see your point. Crotty-Interesting observations as usual. Stock is the only guy in that arena that could of got Jerry to leave.
I miss Jerry. But watching a jazz game with him would scare me to death. And I just spent half the day watching youtube clips of Jerry going nuts. Now my wife is pissed. Thanks a lot.
