Breaking: Jazz starting Favors in big line up

Posted by: Bracken Fryar on May 7th, 2012

Just came across my twitter feed from multiple sources.  Finally Favors will start.  We are going with the big line up to start tonight.  Locke tweeted that Favors will never come off the bench again for the rest of his career.  Probably right.

    THANK YOU @MASON!!!!!!!!!!

    MASON = “CHANGE”

    let the new era begin!

  2. Guido says:

It’s too late dont ya think?
    I hope the best
    Go Jazz go!!! !@#$% Spurs!

  3. XxHawsxX says:

Finally! Does this mean Howard is going back to the bench?

Could you imagine (roll with me on this one) if this was planned a year or so ago to land Favors, Williams comes back to Utah, and the Jazz trade Jefferson or Millsap for Iggy!

    Williams
    Hayward
    Iggy
    Millsap
    Favors

I’m dreaming, I know – but it would be sweeeeeet!

  4. Hey that will be good but I agree with Guido way to late. Do the Jazz also have a new coach?? Unreal that it takes getting down 3-0 before the coach can realize that starting Howard was the biggest mistake of the year.

I am not saying Howard was the issue because I do not believe he was but he did throw off the unity that the Jazz started to see with Harris, Hayward, Carroll, Miilsap, and Big Al.

Not sure the change will do much now but it does make me excited for next year. My wish list for next year is to see Raja, CJ, Howard, Watson, and Crobin gone. I know Corbin is a long shot but if Raja, CJ, Howard, and Watson are gone I am OK if they keep Corbin. The only thing I did not like was how he rotated the line-up. Find something and stick with it. The Jazz have a good team and they should only be rotating 8 to 10 in and out all year. These are pro’s they should all be able to play 30 to 35 minutes on any given night. But hey that is just me talking from the side line.

    Harris
    Tinsley
    Hayward
    Burks
    Carroll
    Milsap
    Favors
    Big Al
    Evans
    Kantar

Regardless I will always be Colorado’s #1 Jazz Fan. Go Jazz make the fans proud.

  5. It is too little too late, but atleast Corbin finally made a good choice with his lineup and rotations. It’s soooo late that it’s hard to applaud him for it, but hopefully we can win a game or two and retain all five starters so that we can start the year with it and Corbin won’t have to make any lineup decisions next year. That is if he decides to start with the Big Lineup at the beginning of next year. Atleast now there’s a pretty good chance that he will stick with the big lineup going into next season.

Like I said though I really like this starting 5, and I’m hoping that we keep all 5 starters and not make any moves in the offseason to break up this starting unit. Knowing KOC and his philosophy of roster consistency I think we have a good chance of this being our starting 5 next year, and I think it will also be a top 10 defensive team which will mean a lot of wins, even on the road!

  6. I wish Jefferson was benched, Paul had his natural position at the 4, and demarre was at the 3, but locke is right that it would kill Al’s trade value to bench him now.

  7. KCJones says:

You don’t have to bench Al. Start Al. Play him four minutes. Then sub Favors in for Al. From that point on, sub Big Al in whenever Duncan comes out.

On one side, Duncan has owned Al in the post and on the other side, Parker/Duncan pick and roll has owned Al. Favors taking it hard to the rim will get Duncan in foul trouble and also limit the success of the Parker/Duncan pick and roll. Al’s still an asset when posting up 6′-9″ Tiago Splitter or DeJuan Blair, so you exploit that whenever Timmy is out.

Basically, a Favors/Duncan matchup favors (no pun intended) the Jazz on both sides of the court while a Jefferson/Duncan matchup gives the advantage to the Spurs on both sides of the court.

Guess what the ‘big lineup’ gives you? STILL an Al/Duncan matchup. And Millsap is 8-23 (37% shooting) at the three going against Diaw, Leonard and Jackson. And Favors/Bonner matchup that keeps your excellent rim defender in Favors guarding a stupid lanky redhead out at the perimeter instead of in the paint where he can give weakside help and rebound.

  8. KCJones says:

Isn’t Al hurting his trade value by PLAYING? I was disgusted with his effort in game 2 after we got down in the 2nd quarter, and he’s been ineffective on offense against Duncan in the post and has been exposed on the other end by the Parker/Duncan pick and roll.

So…Start Al Jefferson’s ego for four minutes. Then have him come off the bench, where his matchup against Splitter and DeJuan Blair would HELP his trade value, IMO because he wouldn’t look like a fool on both ends of the floor.

  9. Thank God. It may be too late, but at least we’re sending a message to Josh Howard: We do not take kindly to egotistical players destroying our team’s chemistry.

Agree with KC. Al jefferson should only be on the court when Tim Duncan is off it. So if Duncan is in for the entire game, Al should be out.

Enes Kanter has been much more effective defensively throughout this entire series–and until game 3, was also better offensively.

Did anyone else notice how when we were down 8 in the final two minutes–Harpring, Boller, and Locke all expressed disappointment–Jefferson gave up, stopped fighting, and started taking 18 foot jumpers?

Jefferson doesn’t believe we can beat the Spurs. Therefore, he belongs on the bench. That mentality is deadly cancer for a young team.

  10. I would love to see this lineup.

    Derrick Favors-C
    Paul Millsap-PF
    Gordon Hayward-G/F
    Demarre Carrol-F/G
    Devin Harris-PG

Only issue with this lineup is Millsap’s size would be a problem in the paint, but he could always hand off to Favors.

    Alternately, we could also try:

    Enes Kanter-C
    Derrick Favors-PF
    Paul Millsap-F/G
    Gordon hayward-G
    Devin Harris-PG

Only issue with the above lineup is I don’t think Sap would see a lot of action in the paint if you have Kanter and Favors in there already. Sub in Jefferson if Kanter is ineffective. (His offensive game is still pretty raw, but Kanter and Favors defending the paint would be inpenetrable).

  11. bout !@#$ing time!

  12. lets get evans off the bench. lets see a Favors, Sap, Evans, Hayward, Harris lineup…quick, long, Athletic. ATTACK the PAINT!!!! pick and roll to the rim, alley oop to evans. post Favors in the paint, attack , attack, attack!!! this isnt for a record anymore , this is for pride!

    GO JAZZ, beat the spurs!!!!

  13. bill says:

Too bad it took all year for coach Corbin to figure out the obvious! We’re behind the 8 ball now no matter what we do at this point… sadly, these guys could have developed some great chemistry during the course of the season but no cigar pinned against the playoff wall down 3/0 in the series. I’m hoping the players take it upon themselves to make the BIG lineup successful. It will take great focus, effort/team oriented execution to beat the Spurs. Best of luck! Just my take.
