Meet
Opposing Scout’s Jazz outlook
Posted by: Bracken Fryar on October 25th, 2012
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.I found this today and thought it was very interesting. I happen to disagree with him on quite a few of the points he makes, and agree with some as well. Just thought some of you might like to read what the perspective is from another scout in the league. Sometimes I wonder if these guys actually watch the same games we are. The entire 2nd paragraph of this article about Big Enis is a real head scratcher .. He’s not one of our young difference makers??? He doesn’t have the tools to be a starter??? He doesn’t move as well as OMER ASIK???
I was on hoopsworld.com and alex kennedy posted his 15 biggest suprises of the preseason, and kept Kanter off the list!!! He had guys like Eddy Curry, Nate Robinson, and Andray Blatche… but no Kanter.
The National guys tend to bug me, i feel they overlook us often and don’t give us a fair job.
@Steve: I would agree. Both Alex and Susan Bible must have their dads employeed by Hoopsworld. They are completly bias and both pretty stupid. Curry had already been cut when he made the statement. But he feels Curry will be picked up. By whom Alex??
I agree with both of you. The whole Kanter thing just ticked me off. I was being nice when I said I agreed with a few of his points.
I think this person hasn’t followed the Jazz closely.
“I doubt whether Kanter is ever going to be a starter for a good team.”
“When you’re looking at their young guys, Kanter is not one of their difference-makers.”
I think he’s hugely underestimating Kanter here.
“Right now Favors has a hard time guarding pick-and-roll and understanding where he has to be off the ball, and he gets crossed up.”
That’s not what I’ve seen. I think Favors is our best defensive big man, actually.
I would almost have to bet that this was written before the pre season started. A lot of times they do that and wait. Technically this could have been written a month ago and the guy has not seen Kanter play this year. Cause you kinda lose all credibility when you say what he did about Kanter if he has not watched him at all this season. The fact he said Millsap was a better defender then Favors is ridiculous as well. There is a reason why some teams are not prepared for teams. Cause jokers like this get jobs as scouts.
Also as well.. A scout that is able to have time to sit down with SI is not a head scout. The head scouts are not really supposed to do stuff like this..
I agree it’s frustrating and stupid how we always get overlooked. However, it’s always a good thing when opposing scouts miss the mark on their analysis of our team. It just means Kanter will destroy that particular team.
In one line (below), Chris Mannix loses all credibility. The guy should be a regular on wipe-out, not analyzing basketball teams. What an idiot.
“Millsap just plays his butt off. Defensively, he is better than Jefferson and Favors.” Chris Mannix.
@LK did you happen to see their Utah Jazz season Preview? They all had us pegged 4th…. In the DIVISION… i get OKC and DEN, but they had Minnesota in front of us. I understand minnesota has a good group of talent, but they have yet to prove anything yet.
Not only that, but they also listed Al Jefferson as our top Defensive player because he averaged 1.66 blocks per game! Absolutely terrible.
Defense is a matter of _wanting_ to play defense. While I have not seen the new Underkanter except in brief snippets, he strikes me as one of the most “I want to” guys in the league.
I really look forward to see the team in action just as they are now, “experts” be d*bleep*ed.
I also cannot see the Wolves better than the Jazz. Love and Rubio will be out at least a month. Roy will not be able to play many minutes. My bet is he will need to re-retire. AK will miss at least one third of the season as he has done every season he has played in the NBA.
I also think Jazz will give Nuggets a run for their money.
Based on all of these reactions, and my own opinion on national sports media coverage, I will NOT be wasting my time reading these idiots talk about the Jazz.
Im not sure whether to laugh out loud or punch the screen when NBA analysts talk about the Jazz.
The NBA sports media will cover the following markets this year with some degree of accuracy:
New York/Brooklyn
Miami
Los Angeles
Chicago (but only IF Derek Rose comes back).
Anything they say about any team outside of those markets should be disregarded and dismissed with prejudice (which is ironic, because that’s exactly how they treat every mother market).
Remember, professional sports media are nothing more than glorified PAPARAZZI. They get paid to be bandwagoners. It is their job to cover the major markets and occasionally report (innacurately I might add) on small market teams–but only insofar as they relate to the big market ones.
