A call for your support….

Posted by: Ben White on December 1st, 2010

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

I am starting a campaign, and I ask for your support.

No, I am not running to be elected for office, I am not a crook and therefore I have no business being in politics.

My campaign is a campaign for all Jazz fans to rally around. It is something we can believe in. It is our duty to take care of this business.

I have chosen to start this tonight, even though we are nearly two and a half months away from this event. I believe it will take that long to reach every Jazz fan and that is why I ask for your help!

On February 12, an event occurs which we have all been waiting for. That is, the triumphant (ha!) return of Carlos Boozer to Energy Solutions Arena.

My campaign is this; when his name is read in the starting lineup, I want the nearly 20,000 fans to laugh, laugh hysterically. Each time he touches the ball, the laughing should continue.

Our beloved Carlos has two things working against him. He is an egomaniac and he is delusional. If we “boo”, he will take that as a compliment. If we yell profanity, it makes us look bad and besides, swearing at a player is so cliché, so been-there-done-that, so 1999. Its about as effective as telemarketing to the homeless.

Has anyone ever tried laughing? I mean really? What would that do to a player? Every NBA player has had people boo and swear at them. How many have had 20,000 laugh at them?

This guy claimed that he felt a real bond to us, let’s show him just how connected we still are.

On February 12, exercise your freedom by choosing to laugh your head off.

My name is Big Ben, and I approve this message.

    You are right. I also support this message. We could have everyone bring gymbags to wave at him with their casts.

  2. Ben White says:

    Now there is a great idea! How about it Jazz fans!

  3. KCJones says:

    Remember that Boozer could have left us high and dry instead of doing a sign and trade.

    Essentially we have Al Jefferson because of Boozer’s decision to sign and trade, and it was a totally optional choice, he could have instead just signed with Chicago.

    Now I wasn’t a Boozer fan, but I think he gave us his all every time he was on the court. He just happened to suck at defense, especially against Laker length. And I haven’t forgiven him for sitting out versus the Suns last game with a ‘rib strain’ when that game was pivotal to the offseason.

    But his gift in Al Jefferson and his effort when he was on the court should have at least earned him some respect among us fans.

    I say give him a good ovation for his introduction to say thanks, then business as usual (boos, etc) during play.

  4. I’m with KCJones. I was never a big Boozer fan – he seemed a little prissy to me, but let’s show a little class and applaud our former teammate.

  5. Fan says:

    Given the fact that Boozer was booed horribly at Cleveland when he came back with the Jazz to play there, I don’t think this will have much effect except to make the Jazz fans look mean-spirited and petty.

  6. Gerald says:

    Maybe….complete silence? As if complete apathy, like its a “business”…?

  7. Bill Strong says:

    Ben,

    This is a great idea! Don’t let a couple of these gomers get you down, the self-righteousness stinks!

    I am all on board with this, its not petty, its not means spirited, and its not classless.

    Great idea, you are a real jazz fan ben!

  8. @Bill Strong
    Yes, very classy resorting to name-calling of people who disagree with you. :)

  9. Ben White says:

    ha ha ha wow. had no idea it would generate this.

    @KC Jones,

    fair enough, though i disagree whole heartedly. Boozer sure as day did not give us his best every time he stepped on the court. He had some great games, but to say he really gave us his all is not even close. Additionally, the fact that he could get more $$$ with the S/T MIGHT have had something to do with the fact that he did it, just maybe…….

    @Gary

    being condescending to everyone doesn’t make you classy.

    @deb

    Respectfully, I think you are taking yourself and this post a wee bit too seriously. Its meant to be light-hearted. Life is good!

    @bill

    thanks for your support, but who uses the word “gomers”? I agree with Gary on this one.

    @Gerald

    now THAT is a great idea! That would do the trick as well. I still think a 20,000 seat arena laughing hysterically would do the trick also.

    My apologies and I will refrain from further comments.

  11. A.G. says:

    Great idea! It would be hilarious to witness. At the very least I’ll be laughing on my couch with the rest of you.

  12. Kaleb says:

    Yeah! I agree with Gerald! If somehow the whole ESA was able to be silent! WOW! that would be awesome! I, for one promise to zip it!
