Trade and question
Posted by: Austan S. on June 27th, 2011
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.So my brother mentioned an interesting trade possibility the other day. He said there are rumors going around that we might trade Jefferson to Indiana for Granger. Supposedly the Pacers love Jefferson and have been looking to move Granger. I personally would love this because we would be able to keep Milsap and then pick up a solid SF. What do you think? Also what about bringing in Malone for being a strength coach for the jazz. Not just the big men, but for everyone.
Thoughts?

That would be cool
I heard that too. I’m not sure how true it is though. I would love to see it happen because it would solve our logjam and get us three point shooting. Plus even though I love Big Al I would rather lose him than Millsap if I had to choose.
i love the idea, granger is a solid player but i don’t know about bringing malone in though
We would have to address our Center position then. Who start at Center for us? Okur, Kanter, Fez? That would be a bigger whole for us than the issue we have a SF. We really need defensive presence in the middle and I don’t think Kanter is going to be ready to step in and take over the Center position with Fez backing him up.. That would be a little to scary for me, might work but I think we all know that we would have some painful growing pains with that. This is assuming Okur can’t just step back in and play like he did before which means we would really stuggle defensively if we did with no blocks and a slower guy in the middle. I don’t think trading one problem for another proble helps us this year. Just my thoughts… We are a more well rounded team with Jefferson for now and can’t afford to through Kanter into the starting role instantly.
I love Millsap, but if I had to choose to make the team better, it would be keep Al and trade Millsap for Granger. Millsap is great, but Al is a Bigger Millsap. Same game, just better size.
I think you can count Fess out of the picture now..
I say dont trade Jefferson or Milsap, to part with either would be a mistake, unless you have to to make salary caps work and not have to pay too much in luxury taxes.
That’d be an alright trade, I guess…
Salary wise, trading Millsap for Granger straight up does not work. We would have to throw in Raja or maybe do a sign and trade with CJ. The team would pan out like this:
Harris/Watson/training camp rookie or Burks?
Hayward/Burks
Granger/AK/Miles
Favors/Kanter/AK
Jefferson/Kanter/Okur
I wouldn’t mind seeing this trade, but I agree with Patrick that we can’t let go of Al because we need size. Too bad Millsap isn’t a few inches taller. I would prefer him over Jefferson if that was the case.
Fezenko needs to go up against Kanter and get his butt kicked, it will wake him up, Fez is going to be good if we can get him to flip the switch, also we may have an injury or deal a player like Jefferson that we might need some extra help at that position. I still like Fez he’s a big boy.
I love Paul, but I think it would be alot smarter to move him instead of Al. So are trades only allowed until July 1st or what? Also have the Jazz resigned any of their free agents yet?
Well i do know that malone has offered many times to help out with coaching, and the jazz should take him up on the offer. After all he is the second all time scorer in the NBA. But I also might like the trade but im curious to why the pacers are looking to get rid of granger
Yep, trading Jefferson would create a huge hole. We are not that bad off at SF, especially if AK returns. Also, I think Evans’ future will be at SF. He and CJ, and even Millsap, are all still young; lots of room for growth. Let’s giv’em a chance before we give up on them!
I agree, there’s a reason Al makes the money he does. For the time being, he’s tremendously valuable to us because he can play Center, whereas Millsap cannot.
I would rather lose millsap then jefferson millsap had a great start of the year then disappeared
Luke, I think that Granger is wanting out. They would probably trade him for he same reason we traded DWill, Get something before he leaves. We are already ahead of them on rebuilding and could probably resign him a bit easier. I think there are other options that could be explored though.
I agree with Patrick that I’d rather see them trade Millsap (and another player) for Granger. Big Al brings the Jazz a lot of offense and there’s part of me that’s curious to see if he can bring a tougher defensive game this year. A starting lineup of Harris, Hayward, Granger, Favors, & Jefferson would be pretty stout.
@Chaz: Explain then as you say Sap disappeared then why did the coaches and players name him the Jazz MVP for the year??? And for everyone Fess is done and gone..
splendid Jimmy that depth chart is all screwed up. Here is what the roster currently looks like
1. Harris
2. Burks/Bell
3. Hayward/Evans
4. Favors/Millsap
5. Jefferson/Kanter/Okur
These are the only players under contract. We would need to resign a PG (Watson). Pick up Miles option (which i think they would) They minimum roster in the NBA is 13 and that would put us at 12. Leaves room for an UFA.
If we traded for Granger (which won’t happen, but i would like it to) everything would look like this.
1. Harris/Watson(resign)
2. Hayward/Burks/Bell
3. Granger/Miles (team option)/Evans
4. Favors/Millsap
5. Kanter/Okur
No thanks on the Granger trade. Why do you think they are so willing to get rid of him? Because he has underperformed for the Pacers his whole career. He would be C.J. Miles 2.0. I would be tempted if they threw in Hibbert, but that’s not going to happen.
Al, nice visual tricks to add to your cause. But the lineup is a little different than that. Let list the players in their main positions and then in all the positions they can play.
Listed positions:
Harris
Burks/Bell
Hayward
Millsap/Favors/Al/Evans
Okur/Kanter
Positions they can play:
Harris/Burks/Bell
Harris/Burks/Bell/Hayward
Hayward/Millsap/Evans
Millsap/Favors/Al/Evans/Okur/Kanter
Favors/Al/Okur/Kanter
We are a lot deeper than we might seem. I would be up for a Miles for Sessions and a Millsap for Ariza trade.. Then it looks more like this.
Positions best for the team:
Harris/Sessions/Burks
Hayward/Burks/Bell
Ariza/Hayward/Evans
Favors/Kanter/Okur
Al/Kanter/Favors/Okur
@Yaggi, what do you mean he has “under performed”? In his last two years he was averaged 23.5 points per game. In this last years playoffs he averaged 21.6 ppg., 5.6 rpg., and 3.2 apg. That’s not what I call under performance. He has about the same efficiency rating as Paul Millsap while averaging more points (less rebounds, but they’re different positions). The real reason Pacers want to trade: Indiana is looking for new blood, new chemistry and Granger wants out since he hasn’t gotten anywhere his whole career in Indiana. I say we try to nab him! If not, go for Trevor Ariza!
