2013 NBA DRAFT

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.If the jazz end up with the 14th and the 20th pick. Who should we draft I think if Trey Burks is there with the 14th pick we need to draft him. Espn says were going to take Macadoo from UNC. I think with the 20th pick it depends on who they keep Milsap or Jefferson or neither. It looks like well need a big both ways Isaiah Austin from baylor is a 7′0” power forward that has a good shoot and no inside game. Willie Cauley-Stein from Kentucky is a good defender & good rebounder but little offense looks like he will go around 14-18.Rudy Gobert pf thats 7′1” with 7′9” wingspand Very good rebounder,Runs the floor well,Long, athletic big man,Kelly Olynky 7′0” center ,Big man with versatile game,Can score with his back to the basket,Solid perimeter game with three point range,Good motor, especially on the offensive end, looks like this draft is pretty thin on p.g. other than burke, Myck Kabongo 6′1” Excellent floor vision/leadership,Pure point guard,Makes very few mistakes,Good athlete with quick first step,Good shooter with range out to the 3-point line,Committed defender I have not watched any collage basketball this year i watched kentucky play 3 games when noel was still in so i personally don’t know who fit our plans the best but on the other hand who knows our plans?

i just watched the michigan vs indiana game, props to hoosier on the amazing finish, but i wasn’t very impressed with burks. He’s more of a scorer than a facilitator, and with the talent around him at michigan that should not be the case. And with the pg’s we’ve had the last 2 seasons, i dont want a scoring pg for our future.
I believe we may be picking a little higher than most think. Probably closer to 14th and 18th at worst. I think Trey Burke/ then Myck Kabongo, then Doug McDermott (though he may be a defensive liability) and Kenny Kandji.
Wish list would be Otto Porter (climbing up out of our range, unless the balls are kind), Trey Burke, Nate Wolters or Mike Muscala.
My list:
First Round;
Otto Porter
Trey Burke
Marcus Smart
Anthony Bennett
Myck Kobongo
Second Round;
Nate Wolters
Robert Covington
Mike Muscala
Kenny Kadji
Ray McCullum
Subject to change.
Burke is one of three in the running for NCAA player of the year.I think he will go top ten. The thing keeping him out of that would be his 6-0 height..

I love Kadji’s game
Best case Jazz scenario in my opinion:
Trey Burke/Kelly Olynyk
or
Myck Kabongo/Rudy Gobert
Our biggest need is PG depth with someone who hopefully develops into a strong franchise piece. The top 4 PG’s are Marcus Smart (3), Michael Carter Williams (9), CJ McCollum (13) and Trey Burke (22). All 4 are talented in their own way. Burke is the smallest of the bunch but I personally believe he is the Damian Lillard of this draft which means his stock will likely rise and we would be fortunate to pick him if he is still on the board come time to select the 18th pick.
If the stars perfectly align for us and we are able to take him, I would then pick whoever is available between Alex Poythress (PF) 6′8″ / 240 from Kentucky (projected 18), Tony Mitchell (PF) 6′8″ / 235 from N Texas (projected 23) or Patric Young (PF) 6′8″ / 250 from Florida (projected 37). Any of these 3 guys would be a sweet option to backup Favors assuming Millsap is traded. Poythress attacks the rim and has a soft rainbow jumper (similar to Malone and Boozer), Mitchell averages 3 blks, is a good defender and rebounds on both ends of the court. He is also a good spot up shooter. (YouTube Tony Mitchell ball is life). He is a mix between Favors and Evans. Kinda like Paul George on steroids! Young is a beast around the rim who specializes in dunking, rebounding and blocking shots. I would then look to add more depth at PG by picking up Ray McCallum (projected 44). He has been compared to Mo Williams.
Ideally we draft Trey Burke (PG), Tony Mitchell (PF), and Ray McCallum (PG) to fill needed positions assuming we didn’t move up or down in the draft via trades.
I might also consider drafting DeWayne Dedmon as a 7 footer out of USC to develop behind Kanter if we decide to let Al walk
You guys should check out Lorenzo Brown, PG from NC State. I wouldn’t mind selecting him either late first round or with the 2nd pick if available. Also I’m kind of liking the idea of getting a stretch 4 big that can step out and hit the 3 similar to Okur, and I think Kadji could be that guy. It would really open up/spread out the offense more.
I like Burke or Myck Kabongo as our p.g. As far as the big Kelly Olynyk or Alex poythress unless we could pull off a trade to move up and in the top three and get smart highly unlikely
Or Patrick Young
It doesn’t matter who we draft. They could have the potential of Lebron James and we would still sign a journeyman at their position and they would never see the court. It is very rare for anyone outside of the lottery to make much of an impact on the team the next year anyway and the Jazz have a history of wretched picks in the first round.
Ya, Kanter sucks right Jared. LOL. You do know that players do need development time right? Sheesh.
I disagree that Burke is a scorer not a facilitator. I LOVE Burke and want him more then anyone. I agree he scores but he can pass his averages and size are very similar to Chris Paul in college. I agree he is going to climb up the boards and am afraid we won’t have a chance at him.
I do not want a big in the 1st round again. I would love Ryan Kelly out of Duke with our 2nd round pick. He is 6′11 so we do not give up any size, he is decent rebounding and defensively. He shoots 54% from three!! He would be the perfect compliment to Favors and Kanter.
But Kabongo might not even come out it sounds like. Because he barely got to play this year. I mean he might but it would not be surprising if he does not think he is getting guaranteed money. But he could also be pissed at the NCAA and want the heck out of there.
everybody is sleeping on Isiah Caanan, Murray State PG, I think he ends up becoming the best point guard in the draft, (and so does Chris Paul), hopefully Lindsey has noticed… there is also McCollum PG, Lehigh …he has missed most of the season with an injury, this guy is amazing … I’m a huge proponent of drafting juniors or seniors from mid-major conferences. I also really like Nate Wolters(South Dakota St. G) but I think the Jazz could pick him up in the second round… if Victor Oladipo(Indiana G) falls to 14, the Jazz have to take him, I think he will prove to be the best player from this draft – but I also think he will rise to the top 5.
I only issue with Caanan is a best of 4 seasons 4.3 ast per game. His sophmore yr he had 2.1 ast per game. I want someone a little more rounded. Again McCullum, sheesh I wish he did more assists. Best of four yrs was 3.5 asts, but the kid can shoot…
I do like Nate Wolters.
