Meet
I hope we lose to the Kings

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.7-0 is good, its exciting. doesn’t mean much, but it does mean that “our 3rd string can beat your 3rd string”. Obviously the anticipation for the regular season is through the roof. What i can only hope this preseason is that we lose to the Kings. Why? The preseason is all about growth, and i think a team grows more through a loss than being undefeated in the the preseason. We also have a very competative first 3 games, if we start out 3-0 i will be happily surprised. So if we go into the regular season 8-0, and our first loss happens when it matters, it will hurt a little more. Any sports fan likes to see his team on a winning streak, but it has to end. especially in the NBA. so i would prefer our team learn to lose as a team in the preseason….when a loss doesn’t matter. but our players can go into the locker room and discuss a loss. see how this team reacts to a loss. especially a loss to the Kings, a team that i think we all can agree won’t be much bother this season. I personally took the Lakers games a little more personal, although win or lose to the Lakers, it would not matter much. but it was a grudge match. they swept us last year, as a fan it would have been a major bummer to end our streak to the Lakers….any team but the Lakers. but our Jazz didn’t let us down. So i hope we have an off night at home, the last chance to have an off night that doesn’t matter. then kill it in the regular season.
**side note: i don’t think there is much of a chance that we lose to the Kings at home.

Totally disagree.
i respect that, but i am interested in why you totally disagree?
I think the preseason is more than our third string can beat your thrid string Did you see how many minutes Gasol played in teh two games. He finished the fourth quarter. Odom played major minutes also. The only players who didn’t were Kobe and Fisher. Kobe last night was clearly irritated by Bell. I think the wins mean a lot especially for a team with so much change over.
Ok, I understand your logic, but I also disagree. Why would a true Jazz fan want to see their team lose? Yeah, I can see what your saying about learning to lose as a team in the preseason, but at the same time, this still gives us NO reason to cheer against us winning. We know that we are going to lose games in the regular season, so why would we wish loses on our team now, when it’s inevitable that they’ll come.
I hope we win vs SAC, sit D-Will & Big Al, and give the bench players more time on the court.
Winning and losing aren’t what matters in the preseason, it’s the chemistry that’s built during the process, and I think that we’re building something damn good!
I see what your trying to say and I agree in the aspect of if we’re going to lose, let’s do it now.
BUT I think as a NBA player you always want to go into a game wanting to win. Or in every other sport for that matter. I played soccer for my University and have had several friendly games and I’ve never thought, “I want the team to lose so we can experience a loss together”
It’s always been a, “lets try and win even if it doesn’t count” attitude.
Will the Jazz lose games this season? Of course. But i think you have to want to win and then deal with the loss once it comes.
just my thoughts.
If would also disagree. Winning is contagious. So is losing..
@Bobby…you hope we lose? That’s ridiculous…no true fan would say or wish that. Great teams (and good ones) win and still break down the game as if it were a loss and see how they could improve. The difference: Wins=confidence and confidence is huge for our new guys. I’m sure there was a lot to talk about and a lot the Jazz need to improve on, they shouldn’t need to lose to for any more motivation to win.
The Orlando Magic have gone 20-0 winning streak in the preseason, and they have done just fine the the regular season.
Winning weather it counts or not creates good vibes. Losing weather it counts or not creates bad vibes. Winning in all situations is a good thing
going into the season on a winning streak is the best thing for this team
Everyone on this team (aside from the rookies) knows what it’s like to lose in the NBA. Going in to the season 8-0 will be better than losing the last game. The Kings are good but with what we have we shouldn’t have a problem, even though Deron (definately out) and Big Al will probably sit.
I think it’s more of an incentive not to lose once the season starts if we go undefeated. They don’t want to know, as a team, what it will be like. It’ll happen eventually, but i’d rather it happen later on against a tough tough team.
we dont need to lose to be aware of the improvements needed! if you read up after just about every preseason game thusfar Dwill has said that they are not where they should be chemistry wise. winning and practicing will improve that chemistry. its better to be perfect and ride that momentum through into the season
I’m on the fence. I can see how a loss would benefit the mentality of the team. As well as an undefeated preseason can do wonders for our teams confidence. I’d most likely see a couple of OT’s and a tough win more then a loss at this point though.
I think that keeping a streak alive, pre-season or not, far outways the learning process of a loss. We will have plenty of chances to bounce back from a loss. Losing one game to the Kings in pre-season isn’t going to do as much good for this team as the feeling that your on a roll and can’t be beat as long as you play together. I say lets go into the season unbeaten, and take that confidence with us as far as it will take us.
