Potential moves this offseason

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

In my opinion there are plenty of moves that could possibly take place between now and next season. I’ll list a few of the moves I think could improve the team.

1. If the Jazz take Kanter with the third pick it is going to create a logjam in the frontcourt. Lets face it.. Millsap is a very undersized 4 and quite frankly is horrible on defense. Not because he doesnt try, but he just cant match up with the Pau Gasols of the NBA.  I think the Jazz should make a trade for a wing player if this scenario comes up.

Jazz receive:

Andre Iguodala and Jodie Meeks

Sixers receive:

Paul Millsap and CJ Miles (After picking up option of course)

This gives the dad a legitimate starting 3, granted he isnt a star or anything but it gives the Jazz a balanced starting lineup.  Jodie Meeks is someone who can come off the bench behind Hayward and score the ball.

2. Brandon Knight could cause some shake ups at the point guard spot if drafted. Keep in mind i dont think Devin Harris should be traded before this season starts. If Knight pans out though, Harris is gonna need to be traded while he still has value. I wanted to know what you guys think we could get for Harris on this one?

3. Its been reported by Chad Ford that the Knicks really want to move up and get Jimmer. The only assets they can use to move up there are Tony Douglas and Landry Fields. We could package the 12th pick and say.. Raja Bell or someone like that and get Landry Fields who is a great young player with the toughness to play here.

4. Some free agents that the Jazz could go after are Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Delonte West, Caron Butler, Wilson Chandler, Tayshaun Prince, Mike Dunleavy, Shannon Brown, Marc Gasol, Shane Battier, Michael Redd, Jason Richardson, Thaddeus Young, Greg Oden, Marcus Thornton, Leandro Barbosa, Nick Young and Josh Howard.

Just throwin names out there and wanted to get some opinions. Thanks for reading and you can follow me on twitter @brandonwhitley9 if ya’ll want

Jazz are over the cap and won’t be able to get a free agent. Also you need to do your homework. Redd and Oden are done. On your trades lets just say let’s go with KOC plan.

  2. So your saying that the 49 million the Jazz have committed right now is over the 58 million dollar cap? Interesting… not sure what your looking at but sure.. And Im not going to count a player out for his career until he actually retires. Pretty sure everyone said Grant Hills knees were shot and he was done and look.. he has played another 10 years. And if thats your philosophy on trades than dont get on here and talk about them. Part of the fun is speculating so dont come on here and bash everyone for throwing out ideas. Thank you very much

What i suggest we do…. Is swap Milsap for Danny Granger from indiana. Not only is granger a better scorer, but he comes at a better price 10 mil compared to 13 mil for igoudala.
It was rumored that indiana had offered granger for the #2 pick so they aren’t opposed to trading him. Indiana is also in love with Jimmer so what i suggest we do is…
Package milsap and cj and 12, for Granger and the 15.
We get a bonafide outside scorer who would benefit from playing with players of equal talent around him. He’s a player with good size, 6′8 and about 230, and a wing player who can play a consistent 36 minutes of basketball. That will do wonders for our rotation.
With Milsap out, that would allow us to take a player like kanter who can play immediately… or we can take knight, BECAUSE LETS REMEMBER WE STILL HAVE ANTE TOMIC!

  4. Zach says:

Good post Brandon. I do think Millsap and Harris should eventually be traded. I hope we draft Knight over Kanter, but I’d still be happy to trade Millsap while his value is high to get a good wing player. If we do keep CJ I really hope we trade him so he can’t hurt us anymore with his 1 good, 5 awful game cycle. I think our best bet in this draft is to prepare for the future in a PG with the 3rd pick, then draft a shooter with the 12th. Then we could sign/trade for the defensive center we need since Fesenko is awful and if anything getting worse and do the same for a wing player after resigning AK. And Redd could have a little gas left in the tank. He’s always been one of my favorite players so I’m a bit optimistic.

  5. Zach says:

@Steve: Tomic is signing a four year extension in Europe and his agent has stated it is unlikely he will ever play in the NBA. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

  6. Steve says:

well… kanter at 3 sounds pretty good then!! haha

  7. L.K.Anderson says:

Just sayin Redd is much like Okur and has not played much for the last two years. He however is a free agent.Oden qualifying offer alone is 8.5 Mill. He has missed more than 70 % of the season each of his four years. Iggy contract goes for several more years and tops out at 15 Mill. Just another AK contract.

  8. Zach says:

Kanter at 3 doesn’t sound very good to me. If we get him, we’ll eventually end up with Millsap, Favors, and Kanter all believing they should start at PF. Al should be in that mix too because he’s 6′10, but he likes to play center, which he does quite well offensively, but not so much defensively. Don’t just say Kanter can play center. Sure he can, but I’m sick of playing an undersized PF and center together. If we get a big man, I’d want a 7′+ defensive center.

  9. Thanks guys! I agree on Granger! I just put Iggy because Im not sure how much the Pacers would want Millsap.. with Hansborough looking pretty good. I agree though that I would much rather have Granger! L.K. your right about the guys always being injured.. I was just throwin the names out, not sayin I want them. Your right about contracts also! But the Millers have proven they will spend money.. hasnt worked out the best but they do have the fifth highest payroll in the league. Zach I totally agree about center. The one center I would LOVE to have is Marc Gasol.. i think he would fit in very good. He is going to demand alot of money though.. sign and trade would be the easiest way to get him so we can ship some of our salaries out.
