Why the Jazz will finish under .500 this year
Posted by: Chad on February 2nd, 2012
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. Its not going to be because the team isn’t executing. Its not going to be because we weren’t hustling. It wont be because we are a young team. It wont be for many bull crap reason that all the writers and reporters will come up with.
Its completely and solely based on the referees.
I’ve never seen such a horribly officiated game than the one tonight against the Warriors. I couldn’t even watch the rest of the game half way through the 3rd because of all the fouls the Jazz were getting called on them, yet, the same things or even more obvious calls happen to the Jazz on offense but no there’s no call whatsoever.
And its not just been this game, its been all year long. And its going to continue this way for the rest of the year and the years to come. Multiple refs have said they do not like the Jazz and hate coming to the state of Utah. There’s some that have said they would call more calls for the Jazz when Jerry was here because he intimated them. To me those refs should be fired. IMMEDIATELY. But sadly, its not going to happen. And probably wont change until we get a few superstars, get a new league commissioner, Corbin throws some fists, or we no longer have a team in Utah – Which I pray never ever happens.
With all that being said, I’m still going to be cheering on our Jazz because sadly as fans we can’t do a single thing about the league and the officiating so we just have to cheer and jeer and yell at our TV’s. And if you happen to be at the upcoming home games, and throw your drinks, popcorn, nacho cheese sauce or ice cream on the refs. I SALUTE YOU.
Thanks for reading.

The reason we lost that game is because we didn’t play defense. The Warriors are a shooting team and we left them wide open all day. Also a problem was rebounding. They has almost 597 second chance points scored. Yes, that’s exaggerating because I don’t know the real number, but we couldn’t rebound the ball if our life depended on it. Lastly, we did foul a bunch, but it was all stupid fouls. If you are going to foul a guy, make sure you foul him good enough that he misses the shot and they got about a hundred 3 point plays in that game. Sure refs can be bad, but they don’t cause a 119-101 blowout. We were just off tonight.
Yeah I agree with adam refs are bad I agree but you can’t blame wins and loses how a game is called. Ill tell you why we will finish under 500 if we don it will come back to deffence and execution on the offensive end we do great out and running and n the paint but mid range and three pointers are killing us for years now. You can’t win when you don’t have a complete deffence. And I have seen them get inthier offence and run it to offent this season either. You need both to be at the top of the league
It’s a sad day if we have to lay blame on any one thing. If we finish below 50% it won’t be because of refs or one player, or coaching. Winning teams use adversity as incentive to play at a higher level. Losing teams play the blame game.
Prediction, we finish over 50% for two reasons, first our guys are winners. They take the blame on themselves for poor play and continue to battle to become better. Second, our guys are young with a lot of Rom for improvement. As long as they continue to improve, they will win games. I love what I see so far. Don’t like blow outs, but our team will use that as incentive to be better and work harder. The playoffs may not happen this season, but I dont care, because I like watching them battle this year, and know that they are nor far off and should be here for a while to come.
Sometimes reaching your goal isn’t the best part of the journey, its the journey itself that makes the goal worth while. Stop focussing on a title, stop focussing on the loses. Enjoy these kids growing and improving. We will get to the playoffs when they are ready and not before.
i like what i see since the beginning of the season, i like to not anymore hear about the shortness of Paul, but when i look at the conf standings, one thing irritate me……. 12-9, home game 14, road game 7…… their is still a lot of work to do to be over .500 and in the top 8 of the west……
Most of you people base your trust in one game. Every team has a bad night. Last week the Cavs scored twelve unanswered points against the Celtics at the end of the game and won.Any team can beat another on a given night. But I would agree that the refs have been bad..
I’ve seen the refs have worse nights than last night.
I don’t think the refs hate the Jazz so much that they will deliberately call against the Jazz. But the fact is the Jazz have no stars in the team. Star players whether we like it or not get calls when rookies (which the Jazz have a lot of) don’t. Star players and experienced coaches intimidate Refs. The fan power and the tv coverage that those guys bring to the game can make a ref think twice about making a call. Thats why this season I don’t think the Jazz have been getting decisions at home which is where you would often expect a team to get the calls.
Regardless though refereeing decisions alone won’t drop the Jazz below 500, not making the free throws when they do get the calls, or not winning games away to teams in the East will.
We are most likely going to be around .500. if you look at our home and away record it would put us slightly below .500, but I think that we are a different team than the first 3 road games. I think that the Jazz will end up with approx 35-36 wins, which should put us somewhere in the 7-10 seed in the West.
Chad please tell me I read the post incorrectly. You are blaming the refs??? Do you still believe the Jazz did not win a title because of the MJ push off? The refs are not the reason for the Jazz losses. Come on I appreciate that you are a Jazz fan but I feel there are a lot of fans that just blame the refs because they are afraid to say the Jazz are a sub par team right now.
Some of the things that killed me last night is who is going to get a rebound? Or who is going to play defense?? If the Jazz end up under .500 it is because they cannot win on the road and then they lose games they should win (Toronto game for example). In my opinion, the Jazz do not play very smart ball at times. Some of the shots they take or turnovers they make are at the worst time. It is typically when we are down by 2 or 4 points and they try to force something and then we are down 10 or 12.
Those are just a few of the things that bother me and make me realize we are going to be a .500 team in the west.
Yeah Colorado. the Refs arnt making !@#$% calls at all. Thats why a Dallas coach kicked a ball into the stands and his owner combined now over 100k in fines. Thats why the Blake flop helped them secure the game.
Obviously there is a bias towards the Jazz here and we watch their games more then others, but if you think the refs are making great calls, you have beer goggles on or need to see your eye doctor asap. The whole season for plenty of teams has been some of the worst reffing ive seen ever. Multiply that by giving Superstars their supterstar calls and it wears down the Jazz.
The one thing I’ll say is the calls all around have been terrible, no team has been immune so far. Look at the Watson Tech but none for Dirk.
The Jazz record can not be blamed on the referees. Last night they were tired and three key players were not able to play. They did not rebound or shoot well. The Jazz had 19 fouls called on them, the Warriors had 22 called on them.
@Colorado, agree completely.
In almost every fan blog I read from every team, the fans blame the refs for every loss. From Chicago to Dallas to the Lakers to the Jazz, the refs hate all of them for some reason or another. Blaming the refs is the refuge for those fans who are unwilling or unable to accept the fact that their team may have some shortcomings. I sincerely hope that Ty Corbin does not tell his team that they would have won if not for the refs.
@French Dude, very happy to hear from you again, have missed your insights.
It’s no secret that NBA officials are the worst of every major sport. If you talk to any person that doesn’t like basketball, their answer is either “The games are too slow because there’s fouls every five seconds” or “the refs control the game.”
There are some horrendous refs in the NBA. Guys who have criminal records and have been named by more than one source as crooked and corrupt (Ken Mauer did time for tax fraud but was *personally invited back to the NBA by David Stern.*
That being said, the refs were NOT responsible for this nights loss. Our opening game in LA, and our second game in Denver were thrown by the refs.
Last night we just played sh*tty basketball.
Matt, maybe I am old school but I never said the refs were not making bad calls my point would be to the players “you are a professional just learn to live with it and move on.” The refs are not going to make every call correct and believe me they miss a lot of the ones they should call.
As for the Dallas coach issue, I would say grow up to the coach. I am sure he was sorry after he did that but learn to control yourself. What are you teaching your players? One thing I loved about the Jazz and Jerry’s style of play is you do not let the calls dictate how the game is played. Continue to play hard and do not wine. I would say that about the Jazz players too and I am a fan.
My opinion on the Griffin call yes he did help the call with a flop but he was there in time and set outside the restricted area. How about next time Milsap goes straight up instead or put a shoulder in to try and get some space.
I am not a fan or on the refs side but hey they do not have any easy job. It is a physical game buck up and play is my mentality.
Again I am old school “no blood no foul”. Another comment on the Dirk not getting a “T” you are darn right watching it on TV and seeing it he should have gotten a “T” but when I looked at the replay again I think the Jazz were unfortunate that a ref was not looking at the play. I loved how Favors did not retaliate. I know Reggie Miller was excited that Watson went and defended Favors but I think he could have done that in other ways. Get down the court and make it up on the defensive end.
I respect your opinion Matt
