Sap and Burks Trade?

Posted by: Chase on December 19th, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

So let me first start by saying that I love Sap and Burks.  They are two of my favorite players on the team.  However, with Favors starting to close games (3 out of the last 4) and the trade deadline looming.  The reality of either Sap or Big Al is getting harder and harder to ignore.  I don’t want Sap to go; he’s been putting on his hard hat for years and coming to work nightly and busted his tail; Paul I believe embodies what I believe the Jazz franchise to be.   But enough of the mushy stuff, the NBA is a business and one of the big men are likely gone.  The offense runs through big Al and although many of you don’t like him, we’d be terrible offensively without him.  The Jazz’ coaching staff obviously believes that Favors and he can play together (see the last few games or so).

A lot of folks and casual fans are tossing potential trades out there (Pierce, Gasol, the old junker out back, etc.) Why would we bring back such veteran talent? They wouldn’t put us over the top, so why do it? especially at the premium that the aforementioned players would require.  IF, we’re going to do this we must bring back some young talent (maybe young-ish)

I’m proposing and wondering what you all thing about a three team trade: Utah,Portland and Dallas

Utah has never been shy about wanting a true 7 foot center right?  Yes, we lose one “big man” in Sap and just add another one, but we may be losing Jefferson too and as we all know the Jazz like to be proactive and Myers Leonard won’t be ready for significant PT until Big Al is likely gone anyways. Utah is also on the hunt for a young PG prospect; in come D. Colisson from Dallas.  One of the better defensive PG’s in the league and in our system he could flourish, so far he’s been a bit rough and hasn’t lived up to his potential, but he is a very solid true PG PROSPECT and one that’s worth taking a good look at, if it doesn’t work he has an expiring contract, which the Jazz love right now (see roster).  Dallas would have to throw in SG Dante Jones to make the financials work-he too has an expiring contract and at one point was considered one of the top defenders for his position.

Portland gets Sap and Burks.  Young talent where Portland needs it and they get out of the Mathews contract.  Burks would get serious PT and Portland won’t likely be good enough this year from this trade that they don’t still get a good draft pick.  That’ could be a solid team for them in the future

Dallas gets Mathews.  Let’s face it Dallas is old and could use some young legs and help on the wing. Especially when Dirk comes back Mathews could really help shoulder some of the load both offensively and defensively.

Thoughts?

    this one is correct

  2. Guido says:

someone has to go…. but who?

  3. Chase says:

@Guido? who has to go? Excuse me, I thought the idea was clear. Jefferson or Milsap.

    Looks good to me

  5. L.K.Anderson says:

Looks like you set Blazers up fine. Are you really a Blazers fan. SPAM!!!

  6. Eric Ostler says:

the one problem is they have alderidge

  7. L.K.Anderson says:

Just stirring the pot. Also any trade should include Bell.

  8. Chase says:

definitely not a Blazers fan. The Blazers had Alderidge when they were trying to get Sap 3 years ago. Collison could be a very good PG as well and is a stud defensively. And why are you stirring the pot LK? Losing Sap or Jefferson is very realistic and our teams immediate future could depend on this move. Do you have anything better that is realistic?

Not a fan of this trade, though I think Collison is a definite upgrade over Tinsley/Watson. Millsap and Burks should fetch more, IMO.

  10. Worst trade idea I’ve heard yet. Alec Burks is an excellent player. Just because Corbin is a garbage coach and refuses to allow Burks any opportunities to play does NOT mean Burks is not good.

Did you watch the game tonight? Burks was the best player on the floor for the Jazz tonight.

He came in, started slashing to the hoop, making brilliant passes IN TRAFFIC (that Favors couldn’t convert to baskets)drawing fouls, making lay ups, hitting mid-range jumpers, and getting to the line.

Burks came in and had an immediate impact. He’s a game changer. It would be stupid to give up on him because Corbin doesn’t know how to do his job.

Alec Burks made Corbin look like the jack*ss that he is.

  11. Furthermore, Paul Millsap is a far superior player to Jefferson. He is an all around player who improves in at least one statistical category per year.

Jefferson is so bad that he makes all of the players around him look bad, including Millsap. This is not conjecture. This is statistically proven. Look at Sap’s stats when Jefferson is off the court (hell, look at anybody’s stats).

The offense does NOT run through Al Jefferson, as much as Corbin tries to make it be so. The offense is run through Mo Williams (which it shouldn’t be), Gordon Hayward and Jamaal Tinsley.

You want to trade two opf our best players in Burks and Sap, and leave the defensive abomination that is AL Jefferson on our team so that we will be mediocre for years to come?

You should go work for the Front Office.

  12. Yeah nick far superior that’s funny i like milsap as much as the next guy but, two things he is very inconsistent and he didn’t the offer that got put on the table this summer. So since he didn’t sign it trade him before he picks and leaves and you get nothing.
Trade both of them al and sap and get a center or anther big they both can go but, between the two al is far more valuable then paul hands down. After the pacers game though get rid of both of them and let kanter and favors start. They both played like scared puppy dogs in there
