The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.williams can’t lead because he is all about deron williams and not about team.
derrick rose is – hands down – currently the most valuable point guard in the NBA.
the thing that sets rose apart from deron williams is his character, a very humble athlete.
rose is working with a supporting cast made up of mostly jazz players and is actually successful.
whereas, williams had the same jazz supporting crew – if not, more gifted teammates – and couldn’t get it done.

Although I agree that Derrick Rose is a great player and fun to watch and at this point may be the best point guard playing, I think you are selling D.Will short. I believe he was about the team until the team kind of disintergrated around him, starting with Brewer. And I don’t think DWill had more gifted athletes around him, especially not this year but even before that.
Checkers, do you like apples?
Lets do a comparison, Joakim Noah vs.Mehmet Okur. A real center, vs. a Euro 3 point shooting center, that can’t dunk or cant take the ball to the hole, nor defend.
Centers are supposed to man the paint and not the 3 pt line.
AK vs. Loul Deng. One of them is an overrated crying baby, that goes on national TV and cries, and is overpaid by about 80% of his contract worth, and the other one is a hustler, great scorer, timely 3 pt shooter and a quicker smarter player that can hit jump shot at a crucial time. Oh and AK gets paid $6.5 more per year than Deng.
D will vs. Rose, One of them has taken the team to the conference finals and the other has not.
I can go on and on.
You’re right when you say “one is working with a supporting cast made up of mostly jazz players and is actually successful.” So was d will, but the management, didn’t want to add one more piece (C) since 2007 and perhaps win it all.
So tell me this, how come the Bulls can get Boozer, Brewer, Korver, and still keep Noah, Deng, Rose, Thomas,
and build a championship contending team, while Jazz within 1 year depleted the team by letting go 5 great players, and get stuck with scrubs like AK and Okur?
Perhaps it has to do with a management that cannot tell great talent from garbage, and get stuck with $17 mill per year with a player that’s worth about $5 mill/ year.
I say D will overall is much successful player than rose, but the management let him down.
How do you like them apples now?
Oh and by the way, do you put from the ruff too?
well alban said it all the management put them selves in this situation. And that is why he was saying stuff about his contact and being unhappy I don’t blame him one bit. When we went to the conference finals if we could have had a defensive center like the bulls to make up for boozer’s lack of, this would be completely situation we would still have all that talent and be considered a contender. Checkers you are CRAZY
Yeah Checkers figure it out. Not that Rose isn’t great but Deron put his heart and soul into this team for six years and if you’re too dumb to see that, or if you’re simple-minded enough to have forgotten already, then you’re one pathetic individual. Give the Deron bashing a rest, you and everyone like you make me sick
Alban I love what you said right here:
“So tell me this, how come the Bulls can get Boozer, Brewer, Korver, and still keep Noah, Deng, Rose, Thomas, and build a championship contending team, while Jazz within 1 year depleted the team by letting go 5 great players, and get stuck with scrubs like AK and Okur?

You are EXACTLY RIGHT
ya’ll have no idea what you are talking about.
I am sorry but I agree with Checkers on this. Was Deron a great player at one time, yes. He never was the leader our team needed though. Look at the last 20 games especially the one against Chicago (Rose). It was the Williams Rose conflict and Williams lost it. Not the supporting players, but the Williams Rose contest. To some effect, you guys are correct, Williams did get upset with some things that had gone on, Brewer and Mathews losses. But Checkers is correct too. Williams lost his edge. If you get paid like he does though, he should be able to get past some dissapointments and pull the team around. This season started out that way, what was the excuse for him to give up? Dunno. Hopefully he gets his edge back with this change. Good luck Deron. Nice post Checkers..
thank you for logically, fairly reasoning, patrick.
rose has demonstrated that he can and will persevere without incident.
he is a quiet, humble leader; he hasn’t let his pride go to his head.
defending williams by pointing fingers at the organization is an easy out.
@ tacorev
it’s healthy to disagree; i wouldn’t let it make you sick. keep in mind that we still – technically – live in a country that embraces free speech. deron williams became a high profile public figure, no longer a college star, the day he inked a multi-million dollar contract. there are children who look up to professional athletes and it’s fair to dialogue about the character of those who are – willingly or unwillingly – role models. given the consistent testimonies of williams behavior behind closed doors, it’s fair to say that he was pouting because he didn’t get his way.
I think we all need to move forward. No more Deron bashing, we have a team to support so lets do it
I hate Alban H’s Laker-fan-view of the Jazz, but he has an excellent rebuttal on this one. Chicago HAS the shot-blocking, rebounding machine of a Center (Joakim Noah) that Utah always was missing to be truly successful. And they STILL have the same issues we had with wings…they have Korver, who is an excellent shooter, but below average defender, and not much else. In my opinion, Thibodeau also brought the Bulls a better defensive strategy and focus than we had on the Jazz as well. AND Chicago is in the East…and while they DO have some great teams, the overall competition is much less. Had we had a Joakim Noah last year it would have been a different story for the Jazz.
Its not an excuse to blame the management for this. They put us in this situation. we had a great team but for some unknown reason they picked the extremely over paid ak 47 over the rest of the team they should have dumped his contact years ago then we could have resigned everyone and added a few pieces. I agree that rose is having a better year then deron but he has so many other threats. Deron felt like he had to do everything and he basically did. management did what they had to do in the situation they put themselves in. bottom line chicago is showing us that koc picked to resign the wrong people and what we could have had. That is why this hurts so bad as a fan. (I have to include matthews too he is better than any one could have thought)
That is funny. If it was as bad as everyone claims why did we have a great start to this season? Blame the box office? We have all the pieces, Deron has just fallen apart… Great player but somthing has anapped in him. If it was all Williams against Chicago, why was Williams the only Jazz player with poor numbers, and Rose the only Chicago player with great numbers? Willams does it all? I think not. He is playing petty, and its something as last half of this season, not because of last season or even the 2012 thing. Open your eyes. Deron, though a great player, has been dragging our team down. Not the front office and not last years trades.. Love you Deron, have a wonderful future. Hope you land on a team with some leadership and great success in your future.
Well said Jazz Zing.
Patrick, the Jazz didn’t have that great of a start to the season… their record was extremely deceiving. They had to make miraculous comebacks for many of those wins, and really only a handful of them were against good teams, and most of those came on that one southeast coast road trip. Even back in November I said the Jazz would fall apart if they didn’t shape up, and we see the result. And if “Deron just fell apart” as you claim, isn’t it a bit understandable? He was carrying this team. He was player of the month in November and playing the best basketball of his life. But one player can carry a team for only so long. He ran out of gas, and along with his nagging wrist injury he has been in a slump lately. There’s no denying that. But we know he’s better than that (at least those of us with any sense) and that he’ll come out of this slump just like all players do.
Checkers, it’s not the fact that you or anyone disagrees about Rose being better than Williams or anything related to that question. It’s when you go off bashing on Deron after everything he’s done for this team, which you have done repeatedly on this site. Figure it out
2 Things:
Checkers- Be a Bulls fan
Alban- I can think of a few things to compare you to. A laker fan, a thorn in the shoe, and Dell Schanze.
