Yes, Deron would have left anyway.

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. How do i know this?
Well I happen to be friends with the Babysitter they had hired to help take care of his kids. She won’t be helping them anymore because of the move to NJ but being a huge Jazz fan, every chance I had to find out the details, I would.
She said that they had been discussing Dallas as a potential place to go, along with a couple other Teams.(But yes, they would be going) Now I know some people might say, “Yeah, we all knew he was going to leave anyway..” but I personally still had my hopes/doubts on whether or not he was going to stay with the Jazz and this just confirmed what most of us were thinking.
She also said that they really really like the city where they are at now and don’t miss Utah at all(except for the friends, etc that they made here.)
So for all the people out there wondering if KOC made the right move…. Yes he did. Especially now that we have the #3 pick!
I’m still super excited to be a Jazz Fan and even though I really like D-Will and was sad to see him go, the move that took place was best for the Team and for the Franchise moving forward.
Go JAZZ!

I still feel that he will bail on New Jersey and take over in his hometown of Dallas when Kidd’s done.
Especially (SP?) if Mavs are the champs.. To me they are the lesser of the two evils..
It was a good move. Made us stronger, gave us more options. Though I liked D-Will, he was not providing us with wins. Keeping him for a season and a half to watch him walk away would have been a big kick to the guts.
I wonder if anyone could convince the Cavs that Williams is the big deal in this draft. Would love to see Irving slip to us. We could take Irving and Singleton taking us that much closer to the playoffs.. Bringing Irving here, would make the move an A +++++. Irving, Favors, Hayward. Sound like a playoff core?
He deserved to be on a better team then our front office was proving him with. It was the right move for the team. I just wish that we could have been the contender that he wanted so we wouldn’t have to go through all this. I still miss dwill
Honestly, I think it all boils down to AK’s contract. I know, I know you’ve all heard it. But seriously, no AK contract and we could’ve kept young talent, which would’ve made the future look much brighter than it did to Deron in his last two years. Basically Maynor, Brewer, Korver and Matthews were all lost as a result of the inflexibility we had under AK’s humungo deal. You could throw Boozer in there, too, but I won’t because I know most fans’ view of him. Then the Memo injury, difficult on-court chemistry with so many new teammates and apparent conflicts with the coaches…no, Deron wasn’t going to stay. And honestly, I think it’s better for the Jazz franchise in the long run because of the way we were able to use his trade to re-load on young talent and draft picks.
I have nothing against AK personally, I like him and think he’s a great player. It was the front office’s fault, not AK’s. I’m looking forward to a more healthy Jazz salary level in the future years now though.
As for a babysitter being privvy to conversations about where an NBA player is going to go….I hardly buy that.
As opposed to the “reporters” who lived with them 7 days a week and spoke to them on a daily basis???
Hearsay is hearsay but a friend of mine from highschool works for Mark Cuban and she said that they had talked about him coming to Dallas to replace Jason Kidd years ago when Derons contract was up and that was the real reason he only signed a three year deal.
I hope he stays in new Jersey though, we don’t need D-will as a Western conference contender.
You have to admit the Dallas gig would be a great fit for D-Will. That team would be sick. Is Kidd retiring after this season or next?
Well, I happen to be friends with Phil Jackson’s nephew’s dog and he told me that Deron had a plan in place to go to the Lakers… Honestly people, nobody really knows for sure what would have happened. But I do know one thing, I liked the trade.
Are we seriously upset over those guys you listed KC? Man you make some good points some times, but look at them now.
Eric Maynor Had his best games in a Jazz uniform. Nothings changed for him, no improvment. He will be an average backup fodder..

Ronnie Brewer had his best games in a Jazz uniform. He has new lows for this season. Maybe the Jazz brass are seeing something we are not. Next.

Kyle Korvers stats have gone down steadily yr after yr. He can shoot when he is hot, but he is a defensive liability. Worth 5 mil, I hardly think so coming off the bench with little help.

Wesley Matthews is the only guy I could say that I miss out of your group. Could the team have used him, definately. He played a position that could have filled a hole. But his leaving allowed us to eventually fill his spot with Hayward. I think Hayward will dominate there given another season.

Carlos boozer, Mr Injury himself. Mr I play offense so who cares about defense. Mr Cruz control. So glad he isnt winning a ring this yr. Hope he doesnt sprain an ankle getting out of the pool chasing the next Mrs Boozer this off season. I hope they trade him to some fodder team. He didnt help us win a ring, and he is even worse now.

Do you honestly think we are worse off now than we were back then. We had some injuries, had a chaotic yr, but I think our future is brighter than its been in yrs. Guess time will tell, but looking at the guys your talking about, if that is why D-Will was unhappy and wanted to leave, Shame on his overpaid PG Butt.
Its not a club where you bring your buddies in and have a secrete handshake. Its a buisness and it seems when looking at the numbers that the Jazz brass did what they should have done.
Two mistakes, maybe, its debatable. Overpaying AK, though when that contract was written out we all were happy. He was worth it with the amazing things he did. Hurt us later, maybe, but who is to say anyone would have picked up Mathews if we had the money.
Mathews would be the second mistake. His play would have probably taken us to the playoffs. But looking back, that wasnt completely the Brass’s fault. Or did your forget the communication problems due to the stingy manager.. Some may say Okurs contract was a mistake also. Heck, that guy at least improved over the yrs. Crystal ball aside, no one could have seen the ankle issues. At least he didnt trip over baggage.
Bottom line is probably less than 5 percent of the Jazz Fans will see what our 3rd pick rookie makes in his first season in their lifetimes, and these guys cry boo hoo and waaa everytime something doesnt go their way. Pooh, try that with your Boss the next time there’s no coffee cups next to the coffee machine. Throw a fit when they dont give your buddy the raise, or they bring some fresh from college no exp wuss in to tell you that your fired. Boo hoo, have fun in NJ or San Antonio or where ever your crying butt takes you.. King Williams, love the player, cant take the crying.
I want our team to win, if that means dropping dead weight then so be it. Love Millsap and Evans, but if we must trade them to get the players we need to win, then so be it. I would hope they off load Okur and Bell first, there’s 14 mill that could be used in a much better way, but you wont see me jumping on the Miami badwagon just to say Im with a winning team.
Personally, good luck Deron. Your a great player, but if its like these guys say, you wanted to leave because your buddies had to go… Good luck to ya.. Trimming the fat, and soon we will have one heck of a meal..
I think it’s nothing bunch of hearsay junk. We will never know for sure.
Deron is still my favorite player in the NBA right now. Him CP3 Nash are the best true point gaurds in the NBA who make their teammates better. I just hope he doesn’t go to the Lakers where I will be forced to hate him.
I think you missed the point I was making, Patrick.
Here’s the key phrase:
‘we could’ve kept young talent, which would’ve made the future look much brighter than it did to Deron in his last two years’
I never said these players were Superstars or future All-Stars. But I’ll stand by that they made the future look much brighter WITH those players than with NOTHING.
I’m not so sure you followed the Jazz closesly the last two years. If you did, you would know the impact both Maynor had in his rookie season before being traded (Boston road trip), as well as Korver coming in and Giricek going out, in spite of your criticisms of their weaknesses and stat-citing. They helped the Jazz team. Brewer had weaknesses, but he was great in transition and slashing and a good defender. We all know Matthews was great on both the defensive end and offensive end and was a hustle ‘glue’ guy.
The point is we had lots of assets in these young players. And one by one we saw them go. NOT traded for other assets. Just LOST. GONE, with nothing in return. Unloaded Maynor to save money. Unloaded Brewer to save money. We couldn’t match the Portland offer for Matthews. We didn’t even attempt to keep Korver. And honestly, we were damn lucky that the Al trade was possible with Boozer leaving as well. Big Al for a trade exception, a draft pick and Koufos?? Only David Kahn would make a trade like that.
And here’s Deron, watching, living through all that. Seeing AK, who’s making more than Deron, earning Superstar money (7th highest paycheck in the league…on par with Dwight Howard, Paul Pierce, Pau Gasol, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and others), who hasn’t played like a Superstar in five years if ever, who sits out with weak sauce injuries while Deron plays through them and is trying to win, and who’s bloated contract is the root source of having to give up their young, talented assets (read: future). Memo gets injured. And Deron is nearing the end of his contract. My point is that doesn’t look like a winning franchise and winning situation to Deron, especially projecting into the future. Sure, it looks great now with #3 Favors, Harris, #3 this year, GS pick next year, and our own #12. But had he not been traded, this team is pretty much stagnant. We probably would’ve scraped into the playoffs, which means Minnesota would’ve had our pick and we would have had 0 draft picks this year (Chicago has our 2nd-rounder), with no cap space to add any impactful free agent.
That looks more like a ‘cycle of mediocrity’ team right there, and that’s what I think Deron saw in the future with this team, and that’s why he wasn’t staying. And, I think management could see that and jump-started the re-building process by making the trade with New Jersey, which was a great move.
I’m not necessarily ‘upset’ about those guys in particular, but I am upset the Jazz didn’t try to offload AK and his contract for a couple other young stars and try to build around Deron and give Sloan a real chance at a championship. I’m upset they made decisions that forced their hand and made them drop good assets. They’ve righted the ship now, and in a great way, but its still going to take some time to completely fix the damage that was done.
