I can get why Favors didn’t play in the 4th

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Although Favors played extremely great, the group with Millsap & Kanter had momentum and was getting us back into the game. It looks weird but I can get why Corbin wanted to stick with that line-up. The backcourt starting line-up on the other hand…………ugh.

I can get it too: Ty sucks

  2. Kevin says:

I don’t get it. Corbin has NEVER substituted based on the momentum of the current rotation. He would have forced Big Al into the game if he was available to play, so he should have done the same with Favors. The ONE time his stupid a** tactics might have worked, and suddenly he changes and we lose? He is such an incompetent fool. He makes all the wrong adjustments! How do you not put a guy in who has absolutely dominated all game long?

Favors could have had 75 points and 45 rebounds in the first half, and waterhead Ty would have still pulled him in favor of his boyfriend Millsap. Corbin needs to put his taste in men aside and do his job first. After the game he can flirt with Al and Millsap but during the game he has a responsibility to focus on the substitution patterns and plays and not the rear end of Paul Millsap.

OK , I am here to tell you that I am not a Corbin apologist . But this is rediculous to call Corbin a Fag which is what you are refering to in that comment . I understand you have frustrations but this is suppose to be site that all young and old can read and write . So I implore you to please keep those kind of comments out .

  4. Kevin says:

I didn’t call him that. You don’t need to “implore” me to keep those comments out while elevating it to an innappropriate insulting term. Corbin can have an interest in other men without it being bad for “young or old” to read. I’m not offended by it and you shouldn’t be either. If he has that interest, that’s up to him.

Sure, I made it sound terrible and negative in my frustrations of his decisions but you are the one tossing offensive titles around. Is there an explanation that makes more sense? Cause I am grasping at straws as you can tell to explain his idiocy.

  5. KCJones says:

I listened to David Locke’s rant about this on tip off today.

There are valid points to having kept Kanter in. Favors was in during the 3rd quarter and Bucks went on a huge run and got a big lead. Kanter was in in the fourth and Jazz went on a huge run and got the lead back. I get all that.

The issue I have with Corbin is that he treats the young guys completely different than the vets. Like @Kevin mentioned above, has he EVER done this with Big Al when Kanter or Favors is in, getting the lead back, coming back from a hole? NOOO. NOOO he hasn’t! Ty PULLS them, and puts Al back in. So is it fair to assume that Favors was sitting there expecting to be treated just like Al is treated as a starter, since he started the game? Yes. And as such, he probably feels disrespected by the Coach.

David Locke mentions this veteran/young player difference in treatment, but does he discuss whether Ty SHOULD be that way or whether its RIGHT to treat them different? No. THAT’s why we call you a freakin homer, D-Locke. That’s why I for one am frustrated with Tyrone. That said, I’d rather Ty do it the way he did in Milwaukee. Play the hot hand, play the player’s who are getting it done! Because to me, that would mean Al sitting on the bench for the 4th for a lot more games instead of just playing him because he’s a veteran, and THAT’s what I want as a Jazz fan. Reward good productive play, sit lazy arse defensive effort. None of this veteran – young guys exception different set of rules crap.

  6. Andy says:

@KCJones I think you nailed it.

We as fans would be understanding if Ty decides to do subs like this the rest of the season. But sadly, and Locke mentioned this, there is a different dynamic to sitting your veteran player making 15 million a year.

Also, I have confidence in Favors as a person. Any of us on this site probably would’ve demanded a trade or a change after that game if we were in Favs shoes, but I think he has on a good head and might be more understanding.

  7. KCJones says:

You sit your damn $15M a year guy if he stands in the paint with his hands in his pockets and watches a guy dunk over him. You just do it. If it ‘loses the locker-room’, then locker room be damned. It’s good coaching and its the right thing to do. The coach decides the standards of play for his players on the court via who he plays/sits. Ty hasn’t done that, so what can we expect for the play? Lazy defensive effort, because he doesn’t hold his $15M player accountable.

Lazy defensive effort is acceptable under Tyrone if you’re a veteran player who can get your own shot off.

I DARE anyone to contradict that statement, because you can’t. It’s a true fact. Because Tyrone has made it that way via his actions.

Ty is the WRONG coach for a re-building team with young talented players that’s trying to win now with middling veterans because of his flawed view and treatment of veterans vs young guys.

  8. Guido says:

Also I questioned why Foye and Watson are our starting gs

  9. Andy says:

@KCJones I think you are forgetting the NBA is a business and not just a game. Sure it’s easy for us to say to sit a guy who is making 15 million a year, but you aren’t cutting that check. If Jazz management didn’t like what Corbin was doing they wouldn’t have given him an extension.

  10. KCJones says:

Thats why I think they offered that extension foolishly and pre-maturely. Ty hadn’t even had a full season yet and we’re extending him for three years?? If there was any reasoning behind it, I think that it was that they wanted him to have confidence TO PLAY AND DEVELOP the young guys without fear of not getting an extension. But Ty is Ty, and he’s veteran-biased, and that hasn’t happened.

I never forget that it’s a business. Here’s what happens if Tyrone pulls Al and sits him after every time he doesn’t play defense:

Al starts to play defense. There’s a chance he might not, but it’s a contract year and guess what? Not playing defense is going to cost him money on his next contract, because he’ll look stupid getting pulled all the time for lack of effort. If he’s required by Ty to play defense to be on the court, he’s going to play defense. All of a sudden, we’re a better team! So the way Ty does it now, we’re a worse team!

So to me, Tyrone is the root cause of Al standing there with his finger up his nose getting dunked on and it pisses me off to no end that our highest paid player gets a pass on it! He should be held to HIGHER standards because his CHECK is bigger, but instead he gets a pass. And the root cause of all THAT is Tyrone’s general attitude towards vets vs young guys. Let’s talk about THAT, David Locke. Why the different treatment? I see it as detrimental, as a divisive rift and a source of resentment in the future on behalf of these young players that are our future. I’ve seen Hayward frustrated with Al. I’ve seen Favors and even Millsap. Evans is probably frustrated that he gives full effort and never sees the court and Al gives effort on one end only and he gets 30+ minutes no matter what. They’re all probably wondering wtf, Ty?!

  11. disco says:

@KC – I totally agree with all your points. @andy – The business makes more money when bums are on seats and that happens when the team plays well and wins, not by playing the guy who you nave to pay anyway @Jay – The Ty Corbin Mancrush has been referred to numerous times on this site

  12. Patrick says:

I only have one Concern. Will this light a fire under Favors butt, or will it douse the flame. I have been waiting for Favors to play like that for a long time. To earn the starting roll. Now that he has, will he continue to do so, or will he sit back and go into Cruz mode?

  13. TACOREV says:

    Bravo KC!

    #FIRECORBIN!!

  14. Andy takes the crown for Blindest Sports Fan of the Decade. Congratulations Andy.

  15. Jay Ericksen says:

@ disco there is a big difference with the refernce of ” Mancrush ” and the reference ” checking out Milsaps butt after the game ” .
To me that is a slur that states has Corbin’s interest in men . When stating a Mancrush just says that he likes Milsap as a player as has been stated from fans of all players .
@ Patrick I am not sure one game prove he has earned it , but I agree that he has made a statment and should be in the running for it . Just like Kanter should be .
@ Andy I myself think that you are right about playing players who make 15 mil salaries compared to players wh0o make considerbly less . I do think this is why Corbin plays Jefferon .
@ KC Jones I agree that a starter player that plays lazy should be benched to a player that will play with energy .
I have yelled at the screen enough about this point .
But I think that the minutes that were given to the young guys outweighed the veterns minutes in the last 2 games . So maybe Corbin is listening to us as fans .

  16. Kevin says:

    @Jay

I am not interested in men, but you sound ultra offended that Ty might be. It’s his decision, not yours. I disagree with that lifestyle, but it’s not some offensive thing if other people are into that. Just leave him be.

  17. John Denver says:

You guys are all being ridiculous. Why are we even talking about Corbin’s sexual orientation anyway? Just shut up and have a conversation about how you feel about the team. That’s fine. We don’t need to throw out derogatory names to get our point across.

  18. Kevin says:

Originally it started because of Ty’s mancrush on Millsap. Then someone decided to toss around derog names. But you’re right, let’s just talk about the team here. I am hoping that ESPN talking about Ty will start to bring to light some of his stupid decisions. Someone with some klout needs to help the fans to get this in the forefront.

  19. Jay Ericksen says:

Kevin I will only state this once but here is the respose that you posted earlier and I qoute ” Corbin needs to put his taste in men aside and do his job first . After the game he can flirt with Al and Milsap but during the game he has a responsibility to focus on the substitution patterns and plays and not the rear end of Paul Milsap . ” and un qoute . That is what you posted .
Now to me that is a sexaul slur not any mention of mancrush .
Now I have made my point and will leave this alone already . Sorry for this to become what it has to all others .

  20. Jay Ericksen says:

I am with you all on some points of Corbins fixation with vets over the young guys . But I have said this before I will say it again that I will stand by him till the end of the season , and if he still refuses to see our points then I will join you all . So until then he is still the coach here and needs support when he makes calls that we all are voicing on here .
    So lets go Jazz !!!!!!

  21. Kevin says:

Corbin has a “fixation with vets over young guys” ? What are you insinuating Jay?

    Just kidding!
But Seriously, Why are you standing by him til the end of the season? PLEASE help me see the benefit of accepting his horrid coaching and slaughtering of our future. Because that is exactly what he’s doing when he insults Derrick Favors to the point that he will not want to re-sign here at the end of his contract. I agree that we should support the team. I see that side of it, but my love for this team will not allow me to support a guy who is ruining it. He blew it last season when we could have developed the core 4 so that they’d be ready to take over this year. Instead, Corbin developed Josh Howard and Raja Bell for all of their playing time they’ve gotten this season meanwhile, he says the Core 4 still isn’t ready. Well I wonder why…..

  22. KCJones says:

Man, it’s a good thing Ty rode the likes of CJ, Raja Bell, Josh Howard and Big Al into the 8th seed playoff sweep and no draft picks last year. Can you just imagine if he had actually played the young guys and we had lost a few more games and had gotten two lottery picks along with more developed young raw talented guys? That would have been TERRIBLE for G-Miller’s pocket book and KOC’s ego that’s tied to ‘we make the playoffs every year’. Would have been SO bad, I don’t know what I would have done, not being able to watch my Jazz get manhandled by Pop and the Spurs in four games.

  23. Kevin says:

I’m 100% okay with playing to win and making the playoffs. I think it’s an absolute disgrace to tank like the Warriors did.

However, I would have been 110% okay with missing the playoffs if it means giving tons of playing time to the young guys. I think it’s insulting that we played the old guys so much just to get the 8th seed. That doesn’t mean we should have tanked, but I do think we missed an amazing opportunity to give the young guys time. Best case scenario, they see exactly what it takes to make the playoffs, and the experience is invaluable for future seasons. Worst case scenario, they fail to make the playoffs, and we still get a couple great picks in the draft and potentially could have traded up to get Lillard. In which case, the latter would have been best case.

  24. KCJones says:

I still think the young guys could have finished the season just as well as the vets did, and probably played better versus the Spurs, so I don’t necessarily think it even means we lose more. But if we do, who cares? Our future core players develop more and The NBA has a nice soft cushion for that called the NBA draft lottery. And given the circumstances last year (2 lottery picks if we don’t make the playoffs, no lottery picks if we do), it would have been better for the future.

  25. Derek C. says:

Its a ridiculous argument to say you should play someone just because they make alot of money. If you have someone else who can produce, and make you money then you play him, and cut your losses with the overpaid player. That would be the smart business decision. At this point I think the Jazz are a better team playing the younger players more. They are no question better defensively.

  26. Jay Ericksen says:

I still dont think that the young guys were ready to take us to the playoffs alone . But I do agree that it may have given us a golden oppurtunity to pick up some great picks in a draft that was so loaded , and valuable playin time for the C4 .
I just hope that before the end of the season Ty will see the value of playing these young guys more . I will keep the faith that there will be a silver lining somewhere .
    Go Jazz !!!
