I just saw this on twitter. I guess one PG had to go
YES!! YES!!! YES!!
I knew the Hawks were having a fire sale, Ferry is blowing up that team. Plus we cut like 3M!!!
Thank you KOC!!! Great move!!! I love when KOC is active, now Im excited. Still need to move Al tho.
Just my day.
I like it! I don’t think we need to move Al yet. Raja should be on deck…
Raja has been on deck for a long time. The problem is no takers. Heck, I think KOC offered him to Billy King. Here is how I imagine the exchange going down: KOC “Billy, I will trade you Raja Bell and in exchange you can give me a swift kick to the groin for the Deron Williams and Okur trades.” King “Nah, I’m not even that crazy.”
Bell AND Watson! Would have been sweet to steal John Jenkins also, but this is still super great, Ill say it again…Marvin shot 50% from 3 in the playoffs against Boston (a great defense)!
@ Omar – I think the wages are quite comparable, but Williams has a player option for the next season. Can anyone tell me why some reports are using onerous as a description for the Williams’ contract. Any idea why?
I think Devin tried hard to make it work but it didn’t..
But you can’t blame the guy. like KOC’s actions so far!
They wil amnesty bell and milsap will be on his way out. So we should be good we got a bunch of players they can play mulitple positions. We are deep in every position this is going to be a fun year.
we can go big or small its great
big line up
mo
hayward
williams
favors
al
small quick line up
mo
burks
hayward
williams
favors
its great when you have guys you can play in lots of diffrent positions
@Disco its a bout 2-2.5M less than Harris. They mean that the two players had multiple years thereby guarantee money over several years. Someone actually gave me sh** the other day cuz I suggested Hawks would trade Williams and Johnson for Al, Watson, and Bell. Hawks want expiring contracts, thats why they would give up Williams and Johnson for basically nothing.
Teague is in last year rookie contract, Hortford might be the only playet safe. Smith will be traded.
I really didn’t think we were planning on starting mo at pg..I thought we would finally not have a huge gap between our number 1 and number 2 pgs. With Harris’ improved play towards the end of the year I thought we were looking pretty good. I’m kind of confused by this move. I admit the most I know about Williams is he has been a bust for a no. 1 overall pick.
Am I wrong to think we are getting hosed on this deal? I know most people on here aren’t Harris fans but I don’t consider Mo Williams an upgrade at pg over him. I’m open to discussion for someone to tell me where I’m going wrong. I’m just very skeptical of this deal. Would’ve rather signed Danny Green and kept Harris.
*tradr in a 3waydraft trade among jazz, nets, and Hawks
I love it. I was sick of Devin.
Comment bout Favors possible target on USA olympic team too guys.
Marvin Williams is 6′9 True SF, and an excellent shooter, he had a very good 2011-2012 year. This means Burks is gonna get a lot of his minutes at the backup PG, so Green is still much in play, and I think the last piece to solidify the wing position. Jazz upgrade our three point shooting by getting Mo and Marvin shoot the 3 at 40%, and FG percentage around 45%. Add Green and the Jazz greatly improve the 3 point shooting of the jazz. Wish Harris the best, jazz are serious about Burks becoming PG of the future.
Al, Kanter
Favors, Millsap
Williams, Carroll
Hayward, Murphy, Bell
Mo, Burks, Tinsly, Watson
Evans, hopefully.
Cleary jazz need to dump Bell and Watson, Green could be behind Hayward. If not, Hawks will own Morrow.
@omar… if you really suggested we trade for joe johnson, i’m glad i didn’t see it!! WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU WANT THE WORST CONTRACT IN THE LEAGUE?? The nets just screwed there entire future by taking his contract on. He is a good player, but he is not a 1st option, he’s a second option.
Props on suggesting Marvin Williams tho! he will be a great addition to this team!! Love the deal!!
Omar if you’re right about Burks running the point more I am happy with it. After the initial shock I am getting more comfortable with the idea. Especially if we still get Green. But this means either Paul or Favors will probably come off the bench right? And we all know Favors HAS to start. That would mean Paul is on his way out this year or next.
@jaron… Williams and harris maybe equal talent, but they have different talents, and Williams’ talents fit better with our need and team.
Marvin was also the 2nd pick behind Bogut and ahead of Dwill and CP3! And Marvin has actually improved his 3pt shot, last year he shot 39%! He only hit 1 a game, but i’ll take that over what we had last year! He is a tough defender and a capable scorer.. GREAT ADDITION FOR US!
@Steve, NO WAY!! I just wanted jazz to get involved in the trade between Nets and Hawks. I think I called the Post If the Jazz Want Shooters….
I suggested
Hawks get:
Al, Watson, and Bell
Nets get:
Joe Johnson
Jazz get:
Marvin, Morrow, and Jenkins
I detailed their stats that post of mine yesterday. I really feel confident in KOC, we still a move or two. We are better than just making the playoff. Lets shoot for championship.
@ Omar – If Al bell and Watson go I think you’ll be offered the Nets GM job as you have more of an idea than they do. However, what i read is Williams is on 8.2 this year and 7.5 next year if he picks up the option. Either way, good trade
Joe Johnson is going to the Nets. As for Trevor the Millsap hater he is not going anywhere. Johnson is being traded for a handful lof guys..
Not a milsap hater we just need to get rid of someone. Al has size and, is a better player to me favors has potentail to be a star and kanter we still need to see what he is made of.as for evans he is a solid back up that deserves more time. Out of all those players i think milsap need to be the one to go. He has good games but then he has junk games he is inconsistant and doesnt have the athleticism to keep up with a 3. If he does stay he has got to take a back seat to favors, from what we all saw last year favors is more then deserving for a starting role
Undecided if I like this trade or not. I guess it works, but is it really an upgrade?
Harris – 11.3 ppg, 1.8 reb, 5 ast, 1 st in 27 mins
Williams – 7.8 ppg, 5.5 reb, .8 ast, .8 st in 26 mins
Harris – .44 fg, .36 3pt
Williams – .43 fg, .38 3pt
Harris – 8.5 mil
Williams – 8.28 mil Less than a quarter mil difference

You may argue that he fills a need, but will he do it the way we want? Can he keep up with the smaller faster SF’s, Can he defend the larger PF’s. He may have been drafted 2, but he has a lot of question marks.
Shame on those who would put this underachiever up with Williams or CP3, or think that he could fill Saps position. He has much to prove before you can do any of that, and has yet to do so.
I wonder if KOC is done, because things seem more unsettled now than they did yesterday. Would have been much better off trading Harris for future considerations, and using his money to bring in Ersan…
Thoughts?
Im not sure who they are going to bring in but there will be one more pick up. Or anther trade for sure. Could be an erson or im thinking a true pg or a sg that can shoot the lights out
One thing to remember when looking at the above comparison, we didnt want Harris. Even though Williams may fill the needs of the team better, if he is of similar talent and doesnt improve much will we want him any more than we did Harris. I didnt hate Harris, just thought he was overpaid and did not fit as a PG on our team.
Marvin Williams is a true SF, he is 6′9, 245 lbs. Millsap is 6′9, 253. At the 3 position, Marvin no contest is a superior 3, long athletic and can shoot the 3. So Marvin is an upgrade to the SF position. Against smaller SF, Mo, Burks, Hayward will be the 1,2,3. Jazz are versatile. Marvin will not be playing PF, unless a 3 like LBJ is playing the 4.
Marvin > CJ and Howard
Mo (Mo plays better D) > Harris
Burks > Watson and Tinsley
All upgrades. If Green can play the backup PG.
Green >>>> Bell
*back up SG
We have made an upgrade at almost every position. At pg we got Mo which is a good defender(way better than Harris) 2 moved Hayward to 2 where he plays his best basketball and burks who will be a huge spark of the bench and can get point because he will be the main player. SF by far the best improvment all season Marvin is by far better than Howard and Miles and is a great shooter and defender. PF and center is where we have not improved but with these positions downgrade is an upgrade. Everyone knows that Jazz need to trade a big man to make room for a well deserved star in Favors and to help Kanter to develop by getting quality minutes. In my opinion Jefferson is the one that should go. The thing that I would want the most is to get rid of both Al and Paul and sign ilyasova. With all these upgrades and a few hopefull transactions Jazz could be right in there for a championship. GO JAZZ!!
Patrick you should compare Harris to Marvin. You should compare Marvin to Josh howard and CJ. Then compare Mo to Harris. I think this trade makes perfect sense and we upgraded. Maybe not a whole lot, but to me its low risk high reward, Mo will once again be the #1 PG and who knows maybe Marvin will improve with a change of scenery. I really don’t think Mo will be worse than harris and I know that Marvin definitely won’t be worse than CJ. Win win in my book.
Woody, Actually you would be right if we traded CJ and Howard for Williams, but we didnt. Harris is actually one heck of a SG, and if he gets the chance to play one, you will see what I mean.
I guess its all perspective. Your correct, Mo is much better at the point the Harris. And I wont even argue that Marvin will do at least as good if not better than CJ and Howard, but are you sure. He should have broken out by now. I have yet to read anything that suggests he is a good defender. Can anyone point me to some literature that shows me something different? Marvin that is. I will say, we will at least improve, for no one can ignore us from the perimeter now, but is it really something to get excited over. The rental of 2 guys who may be better, but still are not elete?
I cant wait to see harris be great next season… Mo isnt all that of an upgrade.. Mo is a high volume shooter and usually try to do too much.. Its not like hes a pass first guard
And marvin….. Cmon aint no teams droolin over this guy except utah lol… We are still sitting here with issues other players.. Atl coulve used al
