why got deron booed?

Posted by: Simon on January 17th, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

so when lamar odom was checking in for the first time in dallas vs. lakers game he got huge wave of standing ovation from all those, fake spoiled fans how you use to call them. and everything all those classy loyal jazz fans could give to dwill was some mix of boos and cheers. and lets not kid ourselves, the overall felling of crowds reaction was pretty negative.

so jazz fans, the ones who lives in utah and are attending games, you are in the middle of all things, have better insight than i might get just watching the games from europe. can you explain this to me, because when i heard fans reaction i was really frustrated and down on the community. part of the reason why i chose to root for utah was that warm friendly feeling of small organization with supporting fans all around and it was just gone after i heard all those boos. maybe i just idealized too much, who knows..

and i know all the stuff from last year, but do you think after all those seasons he deserved this?

so jazz fans, can you tell me why deron got such a negative reaction?

  1. He plays for the Nets and I didn’t want them to win. I wish he would have gotten a positive greeting during the pregame intro though. Once the game starts I always root for the jazz and heckle the other team. I think that there are many fans that hate deron because they only can remember him for the last significant thing he did which was get his butt kicked by derrick rose and argue with Sloan.

  2. It was really classless …my feeling is that most of the fans who chose to boo Deron Williams are not very educated fans. I was dissapointed by the fans at the arena chose to boo Deron, especially on every possesion.

Sometimes there is a good reason for booing, a dirty foul, a terrible call, a lack of class, an uncalled for comment in the papers. Unfortunately many jazz fans don’t understand when to boo.

    @ Simon

The majority of the fans at the Jazz games don’t follow the team as closely as the people you encounter here. I’d say the vast majority of the people filling the ESA are casual fans with busy lives and simply don’t fanatically hunt down all things Jazz on the web.

Those people still think that Deron Williams ran Jerry Sloan out of town and is entirely to blame. They heard the story about the blow up in the locker room during the Bulls game, they saw Jerry Sloan retire, they saw get D-Will traded, and that’s the last heard about it.

So I think that’s mainly why, the casual Jazz fan is under the impression that he forced out admired Hall of Fame Coach into unwillingly quitting mid-season, which is not true, but I believe it’s the common perception.

I agree with Mason. Although I chose to boo Williams at the beginning of the game, it had nothing to do with Sloan’s resignation but rather the fact that he was too whiny the last few years he played for Utah (in my opinion) and he got on my nerves. I didn’t cheer for him the last 2 years he played here. I think a lot of fans boo’d him because they know he is an emotional player and one it would get under his skin, which clearly, regardless of his reasons for a bad night of play, it did. Fans here can be very rude and unexceptable of D-players. Once the JAZZ uniform is replaced by another teams jersey, all bets are off. Some D-players will always be boo’d (williams, boozer, fisher) and some will always receive cheers (okur, Matthews, price, korver, brewer)…one reason why players refer to the Esa as a tough place to play. Fans love to heckle to try and get under the opponents skin.

HERE GOES THE B.S YA’LL BOOED HIM BECAUSE YOU WERE MAD, BIAS AND UNFORGIVEN. ALL THAT HE DID FOR THE JAZZ SMH. AFTER THE MALONE AND STOCK JAZZ WERE HEADING FOR A DOWNWARD SPIRAL AND HE HELPED RESURRECT THIS DAMM TEAM… I AINT NEVER GONNA STOP BE A JAZZ FAN GOOD OR BAD BUT YALL HYPOCRITES SHUT THAT SHYT UP!!!

  6. JAZZ KING says:

@nichole what is deron suppost to do. He was being honest and saying how he really feels. Do you want him to be dwight howard ya I love utah love it don’t want to go anywhere else ever now it comes down to it dwight says trade me here, here, here or here. Our team was going down hill he knew it and we all did A.K. was draining us and we could not keep anyone I would be frustrated just like him. I never knew being honest would get you hated so bad. He did not deserve any booing. And I’m still disappointed about it .

  7. Guido says:

I don´t see why either… maybe cause’ he’s an egolastic player?

  8. I really didn’t like that he was booed. You don’t have to cheer for him, but booing should be reserved for jerks like Kobe and Lebron.

  9. disco says:

@ Jazz King – Mate, being honest always gets you in trouble, mostly in the short term.

  10. Nathan S. says:

It’s because of Deron’s hard work and dedication to this franchise for 6 years, that we were able to get so much in trade value for him.

It’s because of his hard work (and a great front office)that we are in the situation we are in now!

I don’t want any opponent to feel comfortable in our building, but BOOING DERON EVERY TIME HE TOUCHED THE BALL!!???? Maybe Boozer, but Deron? WOW…..Come on Jazz fans, don’t think with your heart, use your head.

  11. Fan says:

I agree with jazzdependency, the average fan at the ESA does not understand basketball very well. They heard a rumor from their friend who heard if from their uncle etc, etc, etc that Deron made Jerry Sloan quit. Anyone who knows Jerry Sloan at all knows one player could never control what he did or did not do.
@ Nichole, the best professional basketball are very emotional, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, they succeed through using their emotions to get them going. Trying to get under a players’s skin did not work in the past with either Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant, in fact it led to many Jazz losses here in the ESA.

  12. Who cares Deron is old news!loved him but Are future is bright! Great trade!

  13. TACOREV says:

Deb & Jazzdependency are exactly right, but I’ll put it in terms that are more blunt & simple: They’re idiots. They’re not smart enough to stop and think for a second about everything Deron was and meant to this franchise, they just act with their ignorant, ill-advised heart and not with their brain. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/jazz/53302312-87/jazz-williams-booing-boozer.html.csp

To make matters more embarrassing, the Lakers— the team with the biggest bandwagon fanbase in the world— gave a huge standing ovation to their ex-player, a guy who DEMANDED TO BE TRADED. Deron never even suggested a trade (and wasn’t happy when he found out he was traded), yet such a ridiculous rate of Jazz fans still acted in the most childish, spiteful, ignorant, and petty way possible. To top it off, those morons are probably oblivious to how big of an embarrassment they were for our city and fanbase
