The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.I read today that the Jazz worked out Francisco Elson. His #’s are pretty low but does anyone know anything about him?

I never even heard of this guy. I’m sure the Jazz would tryout just about any nba player. Doesn’t mean he’s staying. Fes has better numbers then this guy. Not a good sign.
i hope we dont sign him because just like chase was saying we will be better off to let fes develop, then waste the valuable time on him.
He’s been a journeymen center in the league for about 8 years, and he’s about 34 years of age. Played with several teams including Denver and Milwaukee. If the Jazz do sign him, it will probably be just be a one year deal.
The Jazz can’t wait until the 12th hour for Fes and his agent too come to terms on a new deal. They need big bodies, especially with Okur’s uncertain status, and the fact that the market of free agents still available is drying up by the day. If Fes doesn’t sign soon, the Jazz may look to go in another direction.
He’s a 7 foot center that has been a decent reserve/role player throughout his career. He only played 12 games last year, but two years ago he played 59 games for the Bucks, starting 23 of them. He averaged 16 MPG for the Bucks that season. No, his numbers aren’t great, but Chase, I think you need to actually look at the numbers and physically compare the two before you start making judgments like that. Elson averages 3.9 PPG and 3.8 RPG while Fes averages 2.4 PPG and 1.8 RPG. Elson’s career highs are 21 points and 18 rebounds, so he has had flashes where he has played good. He could definitely fill a hole for the Jazz as backup center. He could come in and play 10-15 minutes for the Jazz, put up some decent numbers on occasion while providing a good relief for Jefferson and Memo. He would also provide an added bit of experience and leadership for some of our young players. Even though he may not make a huge statistical dent for the Jazz, he, being 34, could be a decent mentor for Millsap (age 25), Jefferson (age 25), and Fesenko (age 24). It would be a good pickup, considering the fact that the Jazz have no money to go out and grab a starting caliber center and need someone to play the position. Jefferson can’t average 48 MPG at the center position and Fes may not even be back, so we need to pick up someone and we’re running out of options. Better to pick up Elson than a non-experienced D-Leaguer.
I think he’d be a great sub. His numbers aren’t great, but his minutes have been limited with having 21 mpg at most. He’d be someone who probably would fit in with the Jazz’s system. Good for clogging the Lane getting some boards and blocks. Fes is just lost, i doubt this guy start 52 games for Denver and SAS and be like Fes. He probably can handle the ball decently, we’ll see when we work him out in the preseason.
so he’s a FA then? Maybe the 4 roster spots we fill could be Elson, Fes, Gaines, Evans..
Evans is signed. I’d rather keep Fes than this guy.
When I compare Fes and him I compare all numbers not just pts and rebounds. I’m talking age as a big one. As far as playoffs averages he averaged just about the same as Fes last season but it was in 06-07. Fes is a shell of Elson in his glory days which weren’t really that glorifying. If we sign this guy we sign him. I’m not hating on him. But dude is old and hasn’t proven a thing. Hopefully he has a good work out. And becomes an impressive standout this year. He’d get about the same minutes Kosta got last year though. Unless Fes goes down with an injury.
kelton, he’s a 2nd rounder so his contract is non guarenteed (SC), he’ll likely be fighting for a spot with someother undrafted rookies/FA’s
The only reason I’d sign this guy is cuz he’s played for the spurs. That’s it. I’m not too worried about it either way though.
Elson played for the Spurs and if I’m not mistaken he was on at least one of their championship teams. Although his stats aren’t the best hes a hard working player and he has championship experience. He can provide relief off the bench as well as some veteran leadership in the locker room. I like this guy, i hope the Jazz sign him. I would hope that they are going to sign fes as well though.
He’s not bad, but there are other bigs that I would rather have than Elson. Like Earl Barron, Chris Hunter, Joe Smith, Josh Boone, or DJ Mbenga.
Don’t know too much about him. I do remember him playing decent against the Jazz when he played for the Spurs in the WCF in 2007
