“Jimmer, do we want him?”

Jimmer, #7  this star player began at BYU as a hero! I used to watch this guy and everything he threw at the hoop majically went into the net. Everyone believed the star would upgrade himself once in the NBA but when he arrived, he wasn’t our what we thought he was going to be. Now as a Jazz fan, i didn’t really care what team this guy was on. but man, he’s playing only minutes a game, with very small point average. If he’s ever going to make a bigger impact for the Kings, and Even for the NBA, he’s going to be doing a lot more than he’s doing. Now my question to you is, If this supposeibly BYU wonder would be on the Jazz, would we want him or even more importantly, would we need him? And just to raise the stakes here, would we rather have him than CJ?

Umm…………neither! Let Miles walk next year, we got Alec Burks

I would rather have Bozo the clown than CJ. I think that after his second year if he continues to get low minutes then he could be had at a low cost. For a hoetown favorite and someone who could pop a few threes to add for the dagger would be ok..

  3. I didn’t really care for the guy,(not being the biggest BYU fan) but i’m not saying he isn’t great. but what would he do more than just three’s?

  4. No he is not a fit for the system we play.

mmmm even a big mac and coke is better than CJ. ANd really I dont know what expected if Jimmer could be here, we obviously need a shooter, and Jimmer fans are here… so… could be a nice shooter fit. nothing more.

  6. I would rather have CJ Miles than Jimmer. What a joke.

  7. McKay he needs a system like Phoenix where they run pick and roll and he can spot up in the corner. He can not handle the ball and bring it up. Him and Steve Nash would be perfect together because you do not take the ball out of Nash hands Jimmer would not work in most systems in the NBA

  8. only hope for Jimmer is that he re formats his entire game during the off season to fit the nba. compete without touches. grind it all off season on handling and passing skills and put some effort into defending pass lanes if he wants to get any attention from coaches.

First of all I don’t think everyone was sold on him upgrading himself once he got to the NBA. He has always been a polarizing figure, his fans would look at his shooting in college and say every team needs a shooter like him. Others would say he’s not fast enough, strong enough or able to beat his man off the dribble. Just about everyone questioned his defensive capabilities. That last point probably isn’t his fault, at BYU he wasn’t expected to do any defending. If the coaching staff there had really wanted him to have a long NBA career and weren’t just thinking about what he could do for their college for 4 years then they would have had somebody working with him on defensive plays behind the scenes.

I am glad that the Jazz didn’t have that ’shall we pick Jimmer’ conundrum left for them at the number 12 pick last year. I like the kid, but as much as he is struggling at Sacramento I think here the pressure could be even greater. He went to college here, more than half the viewing audience would know what he was capable of at BYU. Those fans would be calling for him to play and if he missed shots while he was learning his NBA craft a lot of those fans wouldn’t understand why he was missing the same shots he made in college.

Now back to him today if the opportunity came to add him to the roster cheaply – despite what I might have said I might go for it. However I would expect him to be a long term project. I don’t see him ever being an elite player. The jury is still out on whether he is a PG in the NBA. I would not put him on as a starter on any team for many years, if ever. Certainly not on this Jazz team. Our starting 5 already struggle with defense as it is. Putting Jimmer on the team would just invite teams to power straight through us. However that said when he finds his scoring touch I do think he will be a useful player to have in a second unit. Most players in a second unit are no where near as good as the first five. In that kind of environment he would be useful, just don’t expect him to be a star player. Expect him to score, expect him to be a work on progress in regards to defence, expect him to hold his own against lesser players and be taken out of the game when the opposition elite players go back in.
