Core 5 vs old 5 scrimmage

Posted by: C-Style on January 16th, 2013

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Recently I was able to attend a jazz practice. I was able to hear some pretty interesting conversations. I was on the front row; the players were practicing half court shots when Hornacek nervously walked up to Ty and said: maybe we should try and get some more minutes for our core 5″.

“core 5….. What’s that?

“you know, our young lottery picks like favors, kanter, Hayward, burks, and the junkyard dog” Horny replied.

Those guys? They get minutes.” Ty said “plus my buddies like to play, I’d hate to offend them.”

“What if I take the blame and you let me call rotations for just one half of our next game? With puppy dog eyes Horny continued… “if we don’t have the best half of the season, I’ll never ask again!!

Corbin looked like he was debating within himself a battle of all battles. Then after 15 minutes he said, ” how old are you?”

“what?????” Hornacek couldn’t believe his ears.

“how old are you?” Ty asked again.

Im a … Um…. 51″ horny responded

” I’m STILL older than you, so I call the shots jeffrey!!”but I think I need to prove it. You take your core 5 and I’ll take big al, millsap,  marvin, foye, and my main man Watson!!” we’ll teach you young uns how the game is played.”

Sounds good, let’s go guys!” Horny said..

Haha, I think James seaman was the first one to do a post like this, then someone else did in the summer about David Kahn I brink. In the comments, feel free to add how the scrimmage went and what would have been observed?

Here’s one play that would probably happen, jefferson set a pick at the top of the key for Watson, Watson has a clear layup until favors comes and blocks it into the 10th row. Big Al’s mouth drop and he froze in amazement. ” bro( referring to Ty) how’d favors do that? He guarded the impossible play!!!” coach Ty said ” I have no idea”

Big al whispers to favors “whatever it is I want some, is it pills, magic?”
Favors says” it’s simple al, we are 7 footers, guards are usually a lot shorter, we pretty much just have to stand with our arms up and a little effort and even you can help on pick and roll.”

I would pay money to go watch that scrimmage. Set it up, Jazz PR! First team to 50. Do it doing the All-Star break.

    Here are the matchups:

    Burks vs Tinsley/Watson (Mo’s out)
    Hayward vs Foye
JDMC (Junkyard DogMarre Carrol) vs Marvin Williams
    Favors vs Millsap
    Kanter vs Jefferson

Winners start the next five games after the All-Star break.

  3. KCJones says:

The Hayward – Favors pick and roll would DESTROY Foye and Al Jefferson.

  4. C-Style says:

Yeah KC, I d pay to see it too. Core 5 would win by at least 20!

  5. Omar says:

    Lol! Well done C-Style!

Al can then teach Favors how to do the step to the side and slap the driving opponents hand to give up some and ones, followed by slouching of shoulders and turning palms up in disbelief—the Al interior D!!

  6. L.K.Anderson says:

“And the farmer hauled another load away.”

  7. C-Style says:

I hope I’m not the only one but, LK what the heck does that mean? :-)

  8. Millslapped says:

hahahhahaa “and my main man Wastson!” hahahahahahahaha

  9. Bryan says:

Wow omar!!! I thought that i was the only one who thought that was funny… Its kinda like when boozer would tell at the top of his lungs when he thought he was fouled. We went from the Booze yell to the Big Al shrug. I think that the core five would do very well against the vets. If burks can score against the vets they would be bery successful.

  10. Omar says:

Hahaha, @Bryan! Boozer still does that!!!

Its especially funny when TV goes to break at end of quarter—thats usually when they show a slow mo clip of Al doing that! I just shake my head and laugh.

  11. Colten Davis says:

    Boozer: “AND ONE!!!”

I would literally pay 50 dollars to see Burks, Hayward, Carrol, Faves, and Kanter play Tinsley, Foye, Marvin, Sap, and Al LEGITLY (nosebleed).

If it was a pick up game, and nobody took it seriously… I would put my money on the c5(?). But in all reality, If it was a legit game, in the playoffs, c5 vs o5, I’d put my money on o5.

I mean, Corbin AND his coaching staff witnesses this every day… I know its easy to sit here and be like “meh, Watson sucks, Al Jefferson slacks it on defense meh”, but really can any person on this site know more than these professionals know?

P.s. I lose alot of money in Wendover, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if I lost that bet.
