Favors #2

Posted by: Jazzed uponit on September 19th, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

In an article by Sekou Smith there was a selection of the 5 players most likely to breakout this season. He states Favors has the highest ceiling on the list. The most interesting thing is look at the fan vote from around the league. That consus around the league just confirms what weve been preaching from a fan perspective since last march. If there is ever a safe gamble to hand over the reigns to a budding star, the jazz have it now. IMO this is a test of the obvious to gauge Ty by this season. Its tough to push aside 2 deserving veterens, but maybe thats the difference between champion contenders and playoff achievers.

Favors started the first game last season. But after a few games Sap was the starter. But with one more season under his belt I think Favors will start. He wants thirty minutes a game and I think he will get it. Having too many quality people to start is a good thing. The minutes will not be just handed out but will be earned. Having Marvin will be great for the competition.I would like to sometime have Burks start. The Jazz lost most of their games last year because of a very poor first quarter. (Starting Bell.) Burks would be the spark plug to get them a nice first quarter.

  2. Shane says:

@LK – out of curiosity, you would start Burks ahead of Hayward at the 2-spot? I like the idea of starting Hayward, Marvin, & Favors together – that gives us some serious length in the starting line-up.

  3. @Shane- I think L.K. was saying to start Burks and Hayward, and slide Hayward to the three, which may work against some opponents with smaller 3’s.

On the whole Favors issue, I don’t think you just give him the spot because of his potential, but you don’t just give it to Millsap because of his experience either, you give it to the guy who is playing the best, and no matter where he starts the game, Favors deserves 30 minutes, why wouldn’t you put your best defensive player out for a majority of the game, when you’ve had a problem with defense.

  4. Jazz Man says:

Giving Favors the spot is no longer based on potential. He showed he deserved it during the playoffs last year against the Spurs. Yes it will be tough with our other two bigs but to me it’s no longer even a question.

  5. Man I just read something today that said not only is it Favors has to get more minutes but that it needs to be in place of Al. I can not remember where I saw it though.. I was in class and can not find it now hahaha. If anyone has seen this share with the rest. So other people think it should be Favors Millsap staring.

Which in all accounts I was sad when we lost Memo cause I thought he would have been a good inside out with Al. If Kanter can get the green light to shoot from outside we could get the same thing.

Now I know I do not like Al BUT if he were to play that role I would accept that! Not sure how it would work out though but we should try it

  6. Millslapped says:

Wow thanks for this link. I was expecting Favors to be last on the fan voting part (Jazz players always are). Nice to see that other fans around the league recognize his potential. Goran isn’t even on Favors level. He will only be a good role player at best. Favors has superstar potential

  7. Millslapped says:

Surprised Hayward wasn’t on the list though.

  8. L.K.Anderson says:

I would not start Burks right away. But he showed some potential in the summer league. Jazz have six players that can play the point guard. I think both Tinsley and Watson are on the reserve list at the start of the season.I included Hayward because I think he can play three positions. Burks, Mo, Foye are the others. When any two or three of these guys are on the floor together they might be all handeling the ball. Jazz have great competition at every position. And if someone goes down they shouldn’t miss a beat. Who knows Evans might be the one to blossom.

  9. Omar says:

I think @Lk thats a brilliant idea! I love Burks. I think the Jazz slow starts was due to the fact the Jazz hardly ever started their 5 best players. The thinking should be lets start are 5 best players within position that they can play. For me the 5 best players I would start:
    Favors
    Millsap
    Marvin
    Hayward
    Burks

Without question these are the 5 best players. Hopefully Mo can accept a bench role cuz back up PG is SUPER important, he shouldnt take that as a demotion. Tinsley did well to general the team, and thats why Jazz had success. Its his body thats just too old for full time backup PG. Mo would excel, and build on a lead playing against oppositing teams backup PG.

So Mo can dominate the ball and create for a young inexperienced bench (along w Foyes help): Kanter, Evans, Carroll, and Murphy.

I think Hayward is fantastic!!! The player I compare him to is Pippen. Maybe not the best individual player on the team but the most important player cuz of his impact on BOTH offense and defense. MJ had success cuz of how great (yet underrated) Pippen was. Thats Hayward: shut down perimeter defender and punishes teams from 3— DAGGERS!!!….Kanter as Rodman, and with fulltime minutes, 12 and 15 guy.

Can it be October already!!!!!!! Top 5 defense!!! Cant wait.

  10. Rain Man says:

Ugh I hate the thought of Burks at PG. He is a mildly selfish player(too much so to be a PG in my opinion). I am fine with that if he is a SG but it makes me cringe to think of the Jazz being run by a Russell Westbrook or Derrick Rose style player which I think Burks would be.

I hope Burks is starting at SG over Hayward if he proves he can be a starter. I think Hayward will be a better 6th man than he is a starter and I think that Burks will ultimately be a superior player, possibly by the end of this year.

Haha I like how Omar just doesnt even include Al as a member of the team anymore.

    @Dallan

Do you always throw a Big Al argument into every thread? Get over yourself dude. We are all sick of hearing your shtick about Al. You didnt even have something meaningful to say about it this time. Who cares if you read something about somebody else not liking Al. Yannis from Hoopsworld called Big Al our best Offensive player, Defensive player, and Clutch player (see how meaningless that sentence is to an argument?). Nobody asked for a daily update on how bad you hate Al Jefferson. You probably read it on Bleacherreport anyway. Your tactics are the same as the Liberal Media in that they just pound the same meaningless and often exaggerated info into our heads without any shame in falsifying arguments and talking out of your cornhole. Al was not mentioned in the post or any comments until you graced us with your omnipotent wisdom.

Here’s the deal: If the post actually pertains to Al Jefferson then feel free to annoy the hell out us with your comments. If not, then there is absolutely no reason to bring it up. Sound good?

  11. I guess I have a hard time not believing that the beginning of last season for Favors was completely different than the ending. That is the “jump” that good talents make when on the road to allstar or more. Were not necessarily playing talent potential over better players. Favors IS the better player

  12. @Rain Man Really? You want to start this? Cause pretty sure we were talking about Favors starting am I right? Ya I am. LK said that Millsap was brought back into the starting lineup. So I said it would be better if we just started Millsao by Favors. Then I said it would be good to see how Al and Kanter offensive games co exist. So I was trying to find a way for Al to work on this team.

I do not read bleacher report thank you though. Also I talked to Yannis about that personally and found out why he did it. It is ridiculous but he said the person who was on the floor the most is who he considered. So ya I read that I read a lot of things.

Do not tell me what I can and can not post on. I am entitled to my opinion. The point was not to show who does not like Al. The point was to show Favors should be starting with Millsap not in place of Millsap.
