Favors VS. Howard

Derrick Favors’ often comparison to Dwight Howard  might be getting old,  but there is some legitimacy to why they could be equally talented in the post. The hype from jazznation is that this is going to be Derrick’s break out year after watching some of his talent light up the playoffs last spring. I’m on board with the hype,  DF hasnt had the easy  transition to the NBA  that some top talent bigs enjoy. Getting moved around his rookie year, then log jammed minutes with a short season with no camps or preseason prep. Essentially I feel like this is his true sophmore year for the 2012-13 season.

DF’’s explosiveness is similar to DH. A 39 inch vertical with a teradactyl wingspan can protect the rim. DH had very little flexability to his game outside of dunks, blocks and rebounding in his early years. Some critics think Dwight didnt work hard on weak areas of his game like using teamates with inside- out passing and pick and roll usage. DH never developed a solid midrange game like Karl Malone adapted. I believe DF has the advantage with better fundamentals from a year at georia tech, and better work ethic and effort in polishing a midrange game. We will see

A lot of people compare him to Howard, but I like to think of him as a less-undersized Karl Malone. He has the prospective body and drive to build himself into a tank like Karl, and he has the slight bit of range, incredible foot movement and never-back-down attitude Karl had. Howard is a great player, but mostly a defensive guy, never really had an offensive game unless he’s under the rim.

  2. If DF can develop an outside shot, as did Karl Malone, then he is really going to be something special. The answer will be in his work ethic.

  3. I still like the comparism matt made when he compared favors to ibaka. I think favors will have a bigger offensive role then ibaka so those stats will be better but blocks and rebounds will be similar
