Meet
Catching Up…Random Jazz Musings

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.It has been a little while, so without further ado, here are a few Utah Jazz thoughts for a Sunday morning:
- Here is my Deseret News article for the easy win over the Cavaliers last night. And also, Instant Analysis for the exciting win over the Miami Heat earlier in the week.
- Speaking of the big Heat victory, LeBron James was his usual amazing self, but down the stretch, Gordon Hayward was the best player on the court. Here are some highlights.

- There are so many reasons I love our Utah Jazz. Friday, Gordon Hayward and Mo Williams were out and about signing autographs for fans at some public appearances. But beyond that, DeMarre Carroll used part of the extended break in between games to take in a local Utah high school game. That is why the Jazz are special.
- The articles focusing on trades are on the rise. You have to love this time of the year. The next month should be intriguing across the NBA, with names like Rudy Gay, Pau Gasol, Josh Smith, Kyle Lowry, Jose Calderon, Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Jennings, Monta Ellis, Kevin Love, Kris Humphries, J.J. Redick, DeMarcus Cousins,DeJuan Blair, and Emeka Okafor, among many, many others being mentioned.
- As for the Jazz, it honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see them make a move involving one of their bigs. It also wouldn’t shock me if they stayed the course, or perhaps made just a minor transaction. There are articles where the Jazz are said to be moving Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap and others that say they don’t see either of them being shipped out. Much more on this later.
- Randy Foye and Hayward have been dynamite from the perimeter recently. It makes such a crucial difference.
- The Jazz have faced a slew of former Jazz players lately: Devin Harris, C.J. Miles, Andrei Kirilenko, and Kyle Korver. Fun to go against familiar faces, especially when on the winning side of things.
- Nice to see Paul Millsap having a nice January.

Thanks again David. Always enjoy your posts. Also Jazzaholic. I would like to hear from some of the other Jazzbots. They have been quite quiet. When all the dust settles in another month lets see what we have..
Question to our Jazzbot gods… Say Jazz do not make any trades this year. Next year we have $40 million in payroll (minus picks). Can we take on a trade if we have cap space and a roster spot? Do we have to give up picks or a player? For instance, we fail to resign Al or Paul – but trade for Chris Bosh so Heat can spend some $. Is this essentially just a free agency type signing via trade? If so what type of players would we take on? My guess is guys w one or two year contracts.
Supposedly Nuggets and Bucks want Millsap, predicated on Sap signing extension. I would not feel comfortable trading Sap to Nuggets.
Omar, the Nuggetts might have one of the deepest rosters in the league. In order to take on Millsap at a pay raise of $11 mil or so they will have to let someone go… Lawson, Miller, Gallanari, Chandler, McGee, Faried, Fornier, Igoudala etc
I would love to pick up Miller and Faried for Millsap until a better option at PG comes available
Mo Williams, A Miller
Foye, Burks, Murphy
Hayward, Marv Williams, Carroll
Favors, Faried, Evans
Jefferson, Kanter
Do you guys think Brandon Jennings would be a good fit in Utah?
He’s one of my favorite players but not sure if he’s someone that would actually make the Jazz player.
I know Kory, I just would hate seeing Millsap in a Nuggets Jersey!!! But absolutely they could offer a ton of assets. Its not Malone to Lakers, but I dont want to see Millsap there. Id get over it right quick if its a good deal.
I was thinking the same thing Andy….
Maybe Jennings and Illyasova???
@Omar, I think we would have to include a 1st round pick too, but that would be worth it if Jennings was our guy.
As it is we don’t have a use for 2 1st round picks, I think we will have to use those to either get higher in the draft or trade them for later.
@Kory, I would love to see Faried and DeMarre on the floor at the same time. It would be such a silly sight
Thanks as always @LK! I believe there are some things in the works as far as the Jazz and UJ360 sites.
@ST Spalding, yes, I think the cap space allows us to absorb contracts while sending out an asset like a second-rounder or the rights to one of our international draft picks.
I too saw the report stating DEN, MIL, and BKN’s interest in Millsap. While the Nets’ pieces don’t interest me as much, both the Nuggets and Bucks have players that would make sense for the Jazz. It seems like DEN is big on Faried.
@Omar: I think your Jennings/Illyasova would work with either Sap or AL. Throw in Bell and maybe 2013GS pick.

Jennings is in last year also, so it seems like a fair trade for everybody….
Bucks want Millsap, but Id try and sell them Al instead.
Favors, Kanter, Dalembert
Sap, Illyasova
Marvin, Carroll
Hayward, Foye
Jennings, Burks, Tinsley
That looks like a team that can do some damage.
If we trade for Jennings and Ilyasova we might as well throw in Burks. Because we are going to have to give Jennings a contract soon. Then we are going to have to figure out which of Kanter or Favors we want.. If we could do a three way trade and get someone other then Ilyasova and send him somewhere that would be nice.
Something like this http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=b7lrn4m
Evans and Murphy as well
Don’t like your trade Dallan. Roy is done..As much as I wanted Williams before the draft he is proving to be a bust..
I am not sure you can say he is a bust. He shoots 42% from three. Gets 19 mins a game and averages 9 ppg and 4rpg as a stretch 4..
Again I think it is the team that makes a lot of difference. But look at Beasley still has a question mark. If Williams was thrown in a trade I would not complain.
If the Jazz don’t resign their FAs and relinquish their cap holds, they will have $30m-$35m in cap space. They can sign anyone, or possibly a couple of players, to a max deal.
Faried and DeMarre would be a double dose of dread locks and exciting to watch, but DEN says NOOOOOO!
