Tough Guys Do Cry

Posted by: Fan on April 3rd, 2011

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

The picture on the front of the Salt Lake Tribune today (4/2/2011) of Paul Milsap made me cry and it looks he is about ready to cry also.  On top of that when I checked on NBA.com minutes after the Jazz loss to the Lakers there was a little zero next to the Jazz which means, of course,  they are eliminated from playoff contention.  I knew that, but it is one thing to realize that happened, it is a another to see it in print.  http://www.nba.com/standings/team_record_comparison/conferenceNew_Std_Cnf.html

Until the end of their season I will be watching every Jazz game and will never stop rooting for them to win because above all,  losing sucks.  But what do I do once the regular season ends and I can’t watch Jazz basketball.  I can’t sit around and feel sorry for myself and my favorite team til the season starts again (whenever that is), or can I?

I came up with the following choices and would love to hear your choice be it one of these or your own unique choice.

1.  Stop watching NBA basketball all together and concentrate on Major League Baseball.

2.  Work in my yard and clean up my house (I don’t think so)

3.  Sort of kind of keep track of the playoffs, but really not cheer for any team.

4.  Watch the playoffs and try to figure what players would be a good fit for that Jazz and are free agents.

5. Watch RSL and try to figure out once again exactly how soccer works

5.  Spend every waking hour reading lists of who will be drafted by what team and in what order.

6.  Cheer for any team that the Lakers are playing.

or my choice:

7.  Follow the NBA playoffs pretty closely not only because I love NBA Basketball but also because  I do have favorite teams, coaches and players other than current Jazz players and coaches.

So if the playoffs started today,  my choices of winners of the first round would be ( I do realize there is some movement possible before the end of the season, especially in the bottom part of the Western Conference ):

San Antonio vs New Orleans (San Antonio)

Lakers vs Memphis (Memphis)

Dallas vs Portland (Portland)

Oklahoma City vs Denver (OKC)

Chicago vs Indiana (Chicago)

Miami vs New York (completely awful choice but I guess New York)

Boston vs Philadephia (Boston]

Orlando vs Altanta (Atlanta)

with Chicago vs San Antonio in the finals

This is not to say I think the play-offs will go this way,  just how I will be cheering.  To me,  games are usually more fun if you decide which team to root for.

So who do you have in the playoffs  or are you like most Jazz  fans and your mantra is  ”Anybody but the Lakers”?

usually I would say anybody but the lakers, but…I am really tired of the same teams winning every year, so I’m going for all the teams like okc and yes even dallas, just somebody new please!!!

I have put some of the hard earned on an OKC v Chicago Finals. I will be going for that.
I am also heading on a trip stateside next Saturday and (dont hate me ) I have tix to the Lakers OKC game at the Staples. We Aussies don’t get to choose what game we see when on holiday.

It might be refreshing to note that when Memphis won the other night that was the game that officially put the Jazz out of contention for a playoff spot. Jazz would have won and it would not have mattered. After tes season the next basketball thing I will watch will be the draft.

You know what? Let Dallas have theirs. Especially if they can go through the Lakers or Spurs to do it. OKC would be my 2nd choice, then Portland. Hope all the other teams lose.

I’d rather see the West beat East in the Finals, unless an East team other than Celtics, Heat or Chicago makes it.

I am having a hard time liking the NBA this year for many reasons. I don’t know if I’ll watch the playoffs in the WC. I did watch the three years the Jazz didn’t make the playoffs 2003-2005 but this year because of the Miami hype, the unfair officiating for Super Stars.

I am excited to hear draft order and learn about FAs and what will the Jazz do a complete rebuild or small changes to just make the playoffs.

I think as a small market team, we really need to cheer for another small market team to win it all. It will show all the FA’s of the future that teaming up and making a “Super Friends” team is not the best way to go, but getting with a franchise that is built from within, (meaning they should stay with their team and build from within). Drafting smart, making good trades, and being financially smart are what will make a small market team competitive. I think for all of those reasons, even though they are in our division, you HAVE to be cheering for OKC. They have done things the right way. They are the poster boy for how a small market team should be run. Also, even though they seem to be in the Finals all the time, and they are completely boring to watch, the other team you would have to cheer for is the SPURS. You don’t want an Eastern Conference team to win, because it will only sway FA’s to the east even more. We want the balance of power to stay in the west. Although, I will admit, if it ends up being LA in the finals, I will cheer for ANYONE except them.

    ps.

Never cheer for Portland!!! No matter how well they play together and have dealt with injuries. As long as the have the front office & owner they have, they will always be on my crap list.
