WHAT DO YOU THINK ?

New @Utah_Jazz teammates Enes Kanter & @AlecBurks10 get together for a pic here at #NBADraft.

So after months of speculation, rumors,  endless posts and blogs  and wailing and gnashing of teeth, here are the two newest Jazz players.  At least for now, 8:50 P.M.  June 23, 2011

At #3

  • Full Name: Enes Kanter
  • Position: Forward
  • Height/Weight: 6-10 / 255
  • Birthdate: May 20, 1992
  • College: Kentucky
  • At #12

    • Full Name: Alec Burks
    • Position: Guard
    • Height/Weight: 6-6 / 195
    • Birthdate: July 20, 1991
    • College: Colorado

I don’t think Kanter was a surprise, but Burks may have been.  So what do you guys know about these two players?  How will they fit in with the Utah Jazz as now constituted?  Did the Jazz get the players they needed for the positions they lack production at?  What are the chances these guys stick with the Jazz, could either one of them be trade material?  Please feel free to comment on these questions or any others you have.

Well, the second choice only surprised me because Leonard was still on the board. I waited for a trade, that never came either. But I am happy, I almost called if if you look at an earlier blog.

I saw CJ had his contract picked up. With Indiana picking up singleton, and rumors about Granger trades, makes you wonder. Could they, would they, send Millsap for Granger? AK, are they bringing him back for a decent price? Is there something else going on we dont know about? Say hello to Stockton and Carter, They will probably be joining the Jazz come pre season, when ever that is.

Overall, It was a hard one to call, but I am happy. Not bouncing out of my chair happy, but its time to go to bed happy. Night all, enjoy the rest of the night. I wonder what is in store for the rest of the month?

Sorry to get off topic does anyone know what happened to Scottie reynolds? Pg that played at villanova?

I am happy. I think we got two players that seem excited to be with the Utah Jazz (especially Kanter wow) and after hearing ty and KOC discuss the picks I feel much more confident in their decisions.

From the way that KOC and ty responded when asked about other moves it seems like something is going to go down. Honestly i think it best that milsap goes, as sad as that is to say. Competition at positions is good but i have a hard time believing that it would end well with him. Once he starts losing minutes he will want out.

    4. Patrick…do you have a link about the Jazz picking up Miles option? I hadn’t heard that yet.

    5. L.K.Anderson says:

I did some reading about Burks months ago and wanted him then because to me he just seemed to be a Jazzman. He is a combo guard so he can also back up the point if need be. He can grow with the other youngsters and I think everyone will be well pleased. Losing Fess and Elson Kanter will fit in just fine. I don’t think Memo has much left. No need to start trading anyone because it will take a while to work these kids in. Can you imagine Favors and Kanter playing side by side?? The best part of the draft is all these stupid trades did not go down—yet..

    6. Colby says:

I thought it was an absolute abortion of a draft for the Jazz. The Jazz didn’t address any of our needs and with the possibility of AK leaving made us worse defensively already being the 7th worst team in the league. We got an unneeded very iffy Bigman that will,AS USUAL,”take a few years to develop” same thing we hear every single time. They ALWAYS need a “a few years to develop”. But they don’t last that long or end up developing on the bench or failing. We didn’t get a defensive player by any stretch or a reliable scorer.
I kept waiting for KOC to drop some huge bombshell trade but it never came. Terrible. But as a good Jazz fan they have my full support and I hope they work out but bluntly I think we got possibly worse.

    7. TACOREV says:

If you think Price + Fes > Burks + Kanter, then yes we got worse. But if you really think that, you may not be that bright of an individual. It sounds more likely that you are just letting your emotions get the best of you since the Jazz didn’t end up with Freddette

    8. Jeff Winget says:

      Colby,

For the record, I hate it when people use the word “abortion” to describe something they don’t like. That said, I’m happy with the draft. Ask the Trailblazers how well drafting for need works over drafting the best player available. They picked Sam Bowie and Greg Oden to fill needs instead of picking Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant. When you pick in the lottery, you have to pick best player available. It’s the right strategy, and the Jazz did that tonight. Also, TACOREV is right. There is no way the Jazz got worse tonight.

    9. JRN5150 says:

I don’t think I have ever been more pleased after the draft than tonight.

    10. French Dude says:

you can’t be more satisfied that i am, i have exactly what i wanted, some Jazz Fan are angry because of Leonard at 15, but what is the use of a SF who can’t shoot at 3……. Kanter is going to be big, Burks maybe maybe not, at 12 a good role player is better than nothing…….

    11. Justin says:

If the Jazz did indeed pick up Miles’ option, it might be just to trade him.

    12. disco says:

I was watching the draft unfold online today and when Kanter flashed up on the screen I thought, Wow French dude will be happy. I was expecting a whole thread from you celebrating :)

    13. Jaron says:

I was still too let down from Kahn taking my guy to be happy about Kanter at the moment, now that I’ve accepted that there will be no d will 2.0 playing for us, I’m excited about Kanter, and I’ll admit I too thought “French Dude is happy now” haha. I am very glad we didn’t take Knight at 3. Burks will be just as good but better on defense. And we got Kanter. Imagine if we had taken Knight and then got stuck with one of the Collins *cough* I mean Morris twins. Kanter/Burks dominates Knight/Kieff Morris

    14. French Dude says:

@disco, i don’t need to celebrate with an egomaniac swaggering blog, it’s not my victory, it’s a victory for us, Jazz Team and Jazz Fans, Kanter is the best in this draft and i only wanted the best for the team i cheer………… that being said, i’m sure that many people here don’t need help to remember that today is a beautiful day for me :)

    15. I would rather have had Williams, but I think that Kanter has a chance to be the best player in the draft. Burks pick is a mystery to me. I just don’t understand the desire to pick a shooting guard who is athletic but can’t shoot.

    16. Woody Palmer says:

@Jared, he can shoot. just not that well in games at the moment. he is 19. He needs help to be consistent with his shooting motions and that can be fixed with time. Look at AK. I am excited because we have never had a player like Burks. Yes, i know we had brewer but Burks is much better IMO.

    17. Colten Davis says:

I love when people use the word “abortion” for something they dont like. Sure, its a terrible thing but its 100% honesty. That said, phuck Kanter, we didnt get Jimmer, I want to die.
