2012-2013 SG Position Review-My Thoughts

Hello again everybody :)

Today, I want to make a post just for our SG position players.

Raja Bell : He is a true veteran. We can see his ability ( especially at the defence ) during the game I really like him when he is on the court and he tries always give his best to lead his teammates. However, since his last year at Jazz, he lost his scoring effect little bit. And that probably causes that SG position is our weakest point right now.

Randy Foye : I really want to thank Tyrone Corbin for buying Foye on this team. When we look at his career stats, we can see he has no problem with scoring. Don’t know about his defence but he should has +20 mintues during a game. This guy can score guys :) and that makes him a great sixth man during the game.

Alec Burks : Last year, I had had many hopes to this guy for make SG problem less appear. Yes, he had showed good game on the court last year ( 15,9 minutes per game- 7.2 ppg  ) But I believe if he tries little bit on passing his teammates for making some assist during the game he will be huge part and can be a starter in this year. But of course, he needs to develop his scoring abilitys more to achieve that.

Kevin Murphy : Great scorer. Tyrone Corbin should give opportunities to him. That guy can score nearly 5 points in 8 minutes ( his current pre-season stats ) guys and that is a good stat in any level. I hope he can show his abilities to the coach.

In brief, we have good guards. But we need to develop them well and coach should be give them opportunity.

Best Wishes from Istanbul :)

    To update: Bell will never dawn a Jazz uniform again. So far Hayward has been the starting guard. Everyone would love to see a breakout year for him. Watson at the point is still nursing his knee. Williams and Foye are the combos with Mo the starting point.It will be hard to divide up 96 minutes to the backcourt.

  2. Deniz says:

    I’m totally agree with you on your statement about Hayward. He had fantastic last year and he earned his spot on the starting lineup. For a combo guard, Williams can play well but i think that may cause to cut some minutes of Burks and Murphy who are need to be developed.

    Let’s say if you are starting with ;
    PG – Williams and SG- Hayward then who will be second option at SG ? Williams can be good option when you substitute Hayward with a PG and also we have another options like Bell, Murphy and Burks.

    But, I really ask to Tyrone Corbin to how he is going to share minutes with these guards.

  3. KCJones says:

    I like what I’ve seen from K-Murph so far. Hayward is solid, and he gives full effort on D. I like what Burks brings on offense, but he’s not as solid on D.

    Bell isn’t even worth talking about.

  4. Guido says:

    Answer (for me): Hayward – Burks – Bell, seriously I hate struggles sg’s and Foye do it… Hayward´s at least is an athlete, and still young enough to be a real NBA star. I still loving Bell´s defense and he´s leadership on court, I dont care what the !@#$% people think ’bout, that´s my thoughts guys…
    GO JAZZ GO!!!

  5. Michael says:

    @Deniz, @Guido… Raja Bell is no longer on the team. (technically he is under contract). But the Jazz front office have said that he will not come to training camp, he will not be part of this team. Raja Bell should only be in conversation as a side of a possible trade.

    Look at the box-score for each of the pre-season games so far, Bell is listed as NWT (not with team).

  6. Arnell says:

    FYI – Alec Burks is going to get a mentorship from John STOCKTON next summer for him to get ready and take over the helm of our main PG i 2013-2014 ;}

    Kevin MURPHY will them become the 2nd SG to back up HAYWARD.

  7. KCJones says:

    oh man ARNELL is POSTING again…. how is CJ doing?

  8. Deniz says:

    @Michael.. Just saw it and understand what you said. Yeah you are right. Bell is not member of this anymore. Possible trade will be best choice

  9. Guido says:

    @I know that, i just saying my thoughts… I always think that he has an excellent (no – look) game… people may hate me XD

  10. Omar says:

    Im reading Jazz have dropped buyout talk w Raja and are now talking TRADE……this has to be part of a bigger trade. As long as it does not involve C4, Williams 2x, Evans, Carroll, and Murphy (reminds me of Rich Hamilton / Ray Allen-esque type of game).

  11. Deniz says:

    @Guido I’m agree with you on Bell’s situation in the team in some ways. For me, he is a good defender and I think you like him because of that. However, he had had a bad season last year and he was not young anymore.

    His best days were over I guess.
