clearly to most of us jazz fans something needs to happen. it needs to be drastic and happen fast if we are going to make the playoffs. my solution is that we some how get rig of Harris, memo trade exception, and cj. cj has done good but he needs to go to an offense not evovled around passing. we clearly need to get a pg and a 3-point shooter. i say we go for raymond felton. he would be great here along with the 3-point shooter kyle korver. he doesnt give us much other than a knock down 3 point shooter. he would clear the lane for our bigs so the defense has to close out instead of begging us to shoot the outside shot. i think hayward will develope into that kind of knock down shooter but not yet. what do you think?

The idea that we trade Harris and CJ and get a good PG is not a realistic idea. What other players are you willing to give up to get a PG besides CJ and Harris.

  2. @Brandon, I hear you but I don’t see any pg’s that are available for trade that are worth anything else, another team would want one of our bigs and I don’t think we are ready to give one up. That’s why I think Calderon is our best option.
However, it is inevitable for one of our 4 main bigs to go after next season, I highly doubt we can resign both Millsap and Jefferson as FA when their contracts are up. And Kanter and Favors are going to command more and more playing time, so I guess if the right pg was available it might be worth it. But there are very few I would put in that category. Rondo would be at the top of my list.

Why is everyone pulling the trigger so soon? We lose a couple games in a row and everyone freaks out! I say no, we do not need change right now. As much as we forget, this team is still developing. Remember at the start of the season when Raja was having some difficulties? Everyone was saying “trade him” “we need change” “we need a complete turnaround”. But Ty kept him in, and what happened? Although not perfect, he seems to have DEVELOPED and figured out his role. Just please give it time, we’re only a third into the season with a new team. Unless someone brings up a really, really smart trade, I don’t think it’s worth it to “get rid of” anyone right now. Yes we could use a better 3 point shooter, yes we could always use a better PG. But in real life, I don’t think were going to get any. Unless your the heat, teams don’t just begin good, it’s a process. And frankly, I am quite pleased with where the jazz are now considering their circumstances. Just give it time guys. Last season had it’s ups and downs, don’t be surprised if this one has some too.

  4. I seriously thought the only team willing to trade a PG would have been the Clippers because they HAD 3 of em till billups tore his ACL. Now, I just don’t see ANY team in the league trading a PG unless we give them something GREAT in return, by great I mean any combination of, Favors, Millsap, Jefferson, Kanter, Burks, or Hayward, AND Devin Harris.
But I don’t want to pull the trigger on anything till after this season. I like what the Jazz are doing. I see the future is bright even with Devin Harris. The draft is coming up and things are looking great for us in the Draft and our team is coming along nicely. We got some great wins (and dumb losses), but as a young team all that is to be expected.
Another thought on the trade Exception. It is for when we are getting a lot of salary in return for giving away a little salary, like us trading Kosta Koufus for Big Al. There are very few teams, if any, right now looking to get rid of a PG in return for nothing just to clear cap space.

  5. I’m with brandonbrinton, on this one. This year should be used more for development and get some good draft picks. Next year should be where we start our playoff runs.

  6. James Seaman says:

Yes brandonbrinton and Robert. This is still about the big picture, the long term future. If the Jazz find a good deal that strengthens that future, I’m sure they’ll make it. But the Jazz shouldn’t–and won’t–make a trade simply to try to squeak into the playoffs this year. They should only deal assets if it’s with the next 5+ years in mind.

  7. I would love to package something to trade for Rondo. Personally, I would like to package Millsap, and Harris. I’d throw in CJ if absolutely necessary, but I have actually enjoyed CJ this year. If you think about it Millsap (especially if he makes the All-Star Game) is at his absolute highest trade value right now. The dropoff for the Jazz will be minimal because we have Favors and Kanter who will get additional minutes and we also have Evans and the new PF we just signed who we can use if we get in foul trouble.
