Bizarro Jazz Off-Season
Posted by: Diana on July 30th, 2010
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.
For twenty years the offseason has been slow and uneventful for Jazz fans. (minus the year we signed Boozer and Okur and of course when we got D-Will)
After a bizarre season where we saw the Jazz sweep the SA Spurs, the Portland Trailblazers, started out weak and ended strong. We are now seeing a bizarro off season.
The Jazz were supposed to have an off year this season and just wait for AK to come off the books. We were supposed to match Matthews and call it good. Instead the Millers and the Jazz surprised us and the NBA nation. No one saw the Jazz trading peanuts for Al Jefferson, drafting Gordon Hayward or bringing back Raja Bell.
Now there is a rumor that Mike James wants to play for the Jazz. Chris Sheridan who covers the NBA for ESPN tweeted last night
“Mike James wants to play for the Utah Jazz. Told me so at golf outing (Bethpage Red Course) for his charity foundation:http://bit.ly/9j2PoR”
Mike James has been an NBA journeyman with his best years coming a few years ago with the Rockets. There is nothing really exciting about Mike James except maybe he is an upgrade over Gaines and possibly Price.
The idea though of a player who respects the Jazz organization enough to want to sign with them is exciting. The idea that Al Jefferson is ecstatic to play for the Jazz . And of course the most satisfying is that Raja stood up Kobe just a few hours before their man-date to be in Utah.
Are things changing for the Jazz? Are we finally shading off the images of Derek Harper’s “You go play in Utah” comment and Rony Seikaly not turning up for his trade to the Jazz?
Are we with Sloan’s reputation and Deron Williams talent finally going to land the quality free agents for the Jazz?

yes! I’m not sure if i was suposed to answer the Q, but I had too. D-will is a magnet hard to resist for top flight talent…
*Derek Harper
I’m not trying to be a d1ck, but can someone edit these posts, even just a little bit? I know it’s “just the Internet” or “just a blog post” or whatever, but it looks so bad when you can’t even spell players’ names correctly (Ronnie Seikaley? Really?). It takes two seconds to look it up. You’re already on the Internet. It’s Rony Seikaly. And it wasn’t Ron Harper who said “You go play in Utah,” it was Derek Harper.
It would take such little effort, maybe 2-3 minutes to clean up these posts. Why would people want to read this stuff if you can’t get the very basics right?
thanks I changed the spelling.
I too dignan think Deron will bring talent here. He’s talented and he has the personality. I think John and Karl had the talent but not the personality to bring talent here.
That’s Derek Harper. D-E-R-E-K.
putting aside spelling errors and getting back to the discussion. I really see the Jazz being able to bring in vets who can actually contribute not the Brevin Knights of the league but the Raja Bells.
I see players seeing the 20 years of success that Sloan has had with players bringing out the best in players and wanting to be part of it. Also with the offense being more flexible not just Stockton to Malone anymore they know Deron will get them the ball and make them shine.
Really? Who cares about spelling? It still gets the point across the same way nonetheless. Just don’t worry about spelling and pay attention to what the blog says. How about putting OCD aside and actually comment on the thoughts of the blog and not grammer and spelling of it. This is a Jazz fans site, not english 101. Come on now.
Wow Pops, you tell it like it is. You do what many don’t. You remind me of someone I know on here. Man, it must really irritate you, you even took the time to spell Dareck. Oh I gotta go, no time to check spelling.
pops just be cause you say your not trying to be one doesn’t mean you are one! how about pay attention to the quality point made, and guess what, you still knew exactly who she was talking about, so quit being an annoying 3rd grade english teacher and chill.
Well I’m back and I must say hearing Silkley, Sikaly, Silky’s name whatever it is as I don’t care pisses me off all over again. I forgot about that guy.
i dig your points, however i think everybody is overlooking how big our addition of big al really is, i personally think boozer was overratted and a product of DWILL, and al will show utah what it has been missing in a power forward for the last several years.
Pops, I’m confused where did Diana mention Ron Harper in her blog fool. I’m a rah-tard if I don’t see that, but I don’t. Clear it up for me.
i think that most players in the NBA are just big babys that want to live in sunny cities and play mediocre basketball while getting dramatically overpaid. Any player that actually wants to win would be stupid not to consider playing for the Jazz. Think of how pefect Chris Bosh would be for the Jazz? we would destroy the Lakers, Denver, and the Thunder in the west. And when i learned that he, LBJ and Dwyane Wade took less money to play for Miami i was like, why wouldnt any of you take less Money to play for Denver or OKC or a team like the Jazz who could guarantee you a championship. The reason is because their egos are way to big
@Diana…I like it. As a Jazz fan, I’ve definitely developed some sort of complex over the years, worrying that guys won’t want to play here, immediately wondering if a player will like it here when we trade for him. So I like your outlook.
As for Seikaly, check this out:
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogs/jazznotes/49994415-62/seikaly-points-rebounds-miami.html.csp
It totally changes the narrative which has always been “If only Seikaly had come here” (a narrative which I too have believed). The guy was a total bum and would have made the Jazz worse.
@Champ — She corect the spulling after I’m pointing it out, that’s why your can’t find its. Do that clear its up for yuo?
You guyz are all write, spells doen’t mattr. i just love utah Jizz and will read this blog cuz everone here is so smart i can learns much things about my Jizz.
Ron Harper he my favorite Jizz of all time cept for carl mallon. he good too. me likey jef hornasack too, they call him “horny” and he a all-time jizz great too. he shot many made baskets from 3 ponters areas and make other silly shots sometime when jon stocktun (sp?) pass him the ball goodly.
i now go back to learming more words and thinking much about my favorite jizz and talk more about it wehn i’m got more time.
by-by now rah-tards,
pops (“hey everbody ‘HOW BOUT THAT JIZZ!!”)
hot rad so funny when he drank!
@James I feel the same way. Over the years I’ve thought well if they don’t want to be here why would we want them here. There are plenty of players that care more about winning or just being in the NBA that we don’t need the Rony Seikaly’s of the league. That was good to read. I don’t think Rony would have gotten along at all with Stockton and Malone or Sloan with that attitude.
@Nick I didn’t mean to underplay the importance of the acquisition of Jefferson. I think he is the most important player we got this summer. I think the way with how it happened with Raja was just way more satisfying as a fan.
@Drew agreed-if players were truly interested in winning. More and more players would be going to teams like the Jazz. What did Miami have before the big 3. Nothing. Just like Amare going to NY. He goes from a perennial playoff team in PHX to a team who hasn’t made any noise since Patrick Ewing all for the money.
Haha, your one funny dude Pops. I look forward to dealing with you more often. After reading your comment, your right Pops, spelling matters, your comment pissed me off. I’m still pissed and will be for a long time Pops.
So much for not being a d1ck, eh pops? Why don’t you lay off the throttle a little bit. You can give your feedback without all that crap you’re dishing out.
I just finished reading that post about Mike James, and thought I’d see if anybody was writing about it. I honestly have no memory of him as a player, but it is cool to see someone actually want to come play here. And that really brings it back full circle to how cool Al Jefferson is. I get so psyched when I read his comments about being here. When he said it was like upgrading to a Bentley, that was just awesome.
So who can weight in on this? Who would you pick from Price, Gaines, and Smith?
Can anyone give me the link to the mike james story?? Please.
Haha pops likes Jizz. Dude lay off for real!
WOW! Do I need to come in and start bring everything down? First off, all of you that are bagging on Pops, he’s right. Plain and simple. Sometimes the truth hurts. I have seen people bag on other people all the time on here, but it seems when a female posts something, the person is a d1ck when he makes a comment like that. HUMMMMM! Can we say hypocritical? Although, Pops, this is your fault, as well as everyone else on this blog, LET IT GO! She was wrong, she understood, she corrected it. She didn’t even complain.
Wow, Pops. Don’t you think that was a little over-dramatic? I mean, I’m all for spelling things right, but a few little mistakes never hurts anyone. Plus, after that over-the-top first post, she corrected and moved on.
You could’ve said something like this if it really bothered you:
“Hey, by the way, it’s Rony Seikaley and Derek Harper, not Ronnie Seikaley and Ron Harper.”
Bada-bing, bada-boom!
Adam, just let it go. That’s part of the issue. People are not having an argument about ego’s, not about the problem.
I mean people are having argument about ego’s, not about the problem anymore.
I can let it go. Not the craziest thing that has happened recently
Here we go again Adam. What up Ger.
Champ, it’s the ceiling. I’m inside right now. How are you? haha
Haha…your still a smart ass Ger. I’m good, Adam got me in trouble with James, but we’re all good now.
Champ, at least I’m smart. That is the key point there.
And yeah, Adam told me that I missed some drama on the board. I had to go to Reno, so I was away. I read the blog the guy posted about Adam, you, and there was another person. At first I was thinking “why am I not mentioned” hahaha. But yeah, I guess it was just you guys at that time. What was it all about?
@ Ger, read the final hurdle, boycott of Miami, and why James is a stud. That should explain it.
I don’t think you know much about Mike James. Early in his career he was a fixture on a Detroit team that won a championship and a Houston team that was a perennial playoff contender. He may have been on several teams but in part it was because he was a good player that was the perfect “throw-in” for larger trades.
He is a great defender and a decent shooter. At the very least he could be a very good third string player, but I think that his arrival would likely move Price to the two guard spot.
Mike James has a UTube with the Super Nanny.

He duplicates Ronnie Price or Raja Bell.
