I just wanted to learn your expectations for Kanter, if he make starters against Raports today.

Well last time he started, he dominated Andrew Bynum in LA. his extended time stints in the pre-season he also did very well.
So against a bad team like the Raptors, I expect lots of good things out of him.
Short term I see that he needs to get a little more intense and assertive. Long term I think that he can be a 12/12 type player. It’s up to him in how hard he wants to play. He’s already shown that he can train hard in the off season. He could become one of the strongest players in the NBA ala Carl Malone.
Apparently rebounding is below Kanter now…all he seems interested in lately is scoring (like most guys on our team).
Jason, you’re the biggest flip-flopper I’ve seen on this site. You consistently praise Al, and then rip into Kanter for the same reasons you praise Jefferson? Kanter hasn’t gotten substantial minutes for the past five games or so, maybe more, and it doesn’t seem to matter that Favors was injured and Kanter was our best, most athletic big on the roster. How is the kid supposed to show any amount of his game in ten, twelve, fifteen minutes on the floor? It’s like Corbin is driving an old pickup when he’s got a Ferrari in the garage.
I expect 47 points 38 rebounds. nothing less
Its hard to have or set expectations when he is not given a consistent amount of time on the floor. So the only expectations i have of him is to bring energy and hustle. We’ve all seen that he can and does produce when he plays, his post game is legit and the confidence in his jumpshot has improved tremendously and has now become a shooting threat out to 16 ft. He’s got the skills and talent, its just the inconsistency of time, to produce or meet certain statistical expectations, that is hard.
So as long as he hustles, i know he’ll put up some good numbers.
@Jason I know you are following the narrative put out there by David Locke but lets look at some things for a second the last game Vucevic got 7 OREB 16 reb overall. He starts for them and did not play against Kanter. So who was allowing him to get all those Offensive Rebounds?? Oh probably our starting C. That is his job to box him out right? Or are we going to say that cause Kanter was on the bench it was his fault? And do not say that Al was not near him or someone else should have helped cause about 5 of those times he just got them over or around Al. You wanna talk about someone not rebounding? Lets talk about the starting PF that grabbed 4 in 39 mins THIRTY NINE!!
If he’s starting, I expect 15 & 10. As long as he plays 25 mins or so. If he pushes 30 minutes I expect 18 & 15.
I agree with Jason but think if he’s starting he could beast out and go 20 and 12.
Kanter is an amzing shooter, has a great stroke. Just watch the Nike hoops summit videos. The kid does NOT miss mid range jumpers. Even this year, he’s hit almost every jump shot he’s taken.
All he needs to do is learn to pass out of a double team.
Kanter is going to be a 20 and 10 player.
That is if he gets any playing time. If he wastes away on the bench, he won’t develop. So much of this game is confidence.
Keein OConnor and Tyrone Corbin consistently tell him he’s not good enough, that he doesn’t understand basketball, that he has a long, long, long way to go before he’s good enough to get significant playing time.
Read any of KOC’s comments on Kanter. They are extremely condescending and disrespectful. Way to inspire confidence, O Connor.
Lets let CJ Miles utake as many shots as he wants and get like 30 minutes per game for 5 years, but Kanter is “too young. He’s a baby.”
WTF is that?
WHOOPS meant I agree with Kevin. Not agreeing with Jason on his Kanter comments (although yes, he does need to pick up his rebounding. But that’s tough to do with Jefferson and Millsap on the floor).
I haven’t really been completely on board with Kanter since we drafted him. I would have rather the Jazz taken the Knight kid who ended up in Detroit. You do the most with whatever minutes you are given by the coach (like DeMarre Carroll). This excuse that he can’t show what he can do because he only plays 12-15 minutes per night is crap. If I knew I was only going to be on the floor for a short period of time, I would be busting my ass on every single possession on both ends of the floor. Kanter is a reluctant passer, turns the ball over way to much, and is always out of position, and committing fouls.
As far as Jefferson goes, he is one of those “the glass is half empty or the glass is half full” kind of players, depending on your perspective. For me, with Big Al, the glass has always been half full. There aren’t very many guys in this league this season who are going to go for over 30 points and 15 rebounds in a ball game. Granted, that doesn’t happen every night, but Jefferson’s shooting percentage is steadily climbing as the season rolls along, and he seems to be a good fourth quarter player.
Man I love when people bring up Carrol who FAILED in three different cities before he came here. Teams that were higher then us in the standings. Does he play with energy ya he does but guess what? He does not have any where near the skills as our young guys who are not getting a chance. Ya wanna know why? He was a 4 year player out of college. And was a late 1st round pick. What he has become is pretty much exactly what those guys become. An average role player on a contending team and for us he is an integral role on our team. You think he would play the minutes he plays on our team on any team above us? No because he does not have the skills to do that. You are comparing a freakin role player to a number 3 pick who by the way has the greatest chance to succeed out of any pick in the whole draft. WE HAVE TWO!! Ya wanna know where our star is? Two of them are sitting on our bench behind two people that are never going to take us farther then a 1st round exit.
Andrew – I just like players to stick to what they do best. I see Jefferson’s strength as his low post scoring, and Kanter’s as his rebounding. I would love to see Kanter become a more well rounded player, but you don’t do that by only focusing on one aspect of your game at a time.
I honestly feel if the “core four” were all allowed to play 30 minutes a night at this stage in their careers, we would end up in the lottery by the end of the season. Corbin obviously doesn’t want that to happen because he wants to keep his frickin job. It’s easy for a fan whose job isn’t on the line to say we should just develop the young talent, take our lumps, and patiently build through the draft. Imagine the pressure a head coach like Corbin must feel, when your team owner (Greg Miller) is sitting just down the court from the bench, in the front row, during every home game, fully expecting for his team to leave the arena with a win rather then a loss.
It would be nice to see Kanter start a couple of games just to see what he can do.. If he does really well then the Jazz might take another look at moving AL..I wonder if Murph will be called back soon??
I don’t wish for guys to get injured…but last year some injuries really helped Jazz. I really hope Favors plays as well, so we can get a flash of what we have and are not using.
Kanter:
24 points, 15 Rebounds, 2 blocks, 3 assists!!
I am actually excited to watch this game!!…..so long as Al is not playing.
I hope Kanter has a great game tonight. I will be watching closely to see if he takes advantage of this opportunity to get extended time.
How the heck are Jazz gonna score!!! They only had 63 points at half, that cant be good…
@Jason I wonder if Greg Miller is sitting in those court side seats looking up and realizing the arena is empty because no one wants to watch the brand of basketball he is putting on the floor with the vets..
Attendance: 18,069..
@ Jason Kanter has been strong in rebounding because talented players find a way to contribute. Ty is not using him right so we dont see his other abilities.
Right now his low post moves have caught up to NBA speed. He smells blood, so hes focused on offense.
