Mid Range Draft Picks Available… Jazz Could Get the final keys to success

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.
So i read this article and it was stating that most teams are trying to get out of their picks this year do to salary problems.. the jazz are one of the only teams that have the cap space to work with by signing a couple more players that could complete the roster heres a couple people i would hope if they can get the picks to see them draft
Damian Lillard – Rated as the Best point guard in the draft
Kendal Marshal — Well he would be nice if they are looking for the pass first guard
Perry Jones — Read  today that he is working to become a Solid 3 Player and has realized his potential
Quincy Miller — Another Prospect on the Mend
Terrence Ross – Good Shooter out of washington
Moe Harkless  -
Dion Waiters – Good Shooter
Tony Wroten – IS he worth the Risk.. Talented but has alot of turnovers
MARQUIS TEAGUE – Solid PG
ORLANDO JOHNSON Cant leave him  Really good shooter.. shoots above 40% combined Three and Two
Multiple sources have told HOOPSWORLD that a lot of teams are trying to get rid their pick, which could make for an interesting draft night.
“Almost everyone wants to get out of their pick in this draft,” said one Western Conference executive. “For some teams, it’s hard to take on money for multiple years in this economic climate, especially if the player would not make an impact and help the team win immediately.”

  1. Thanks for the post. Yes, I think if the Jazz find a player they like, they definitely have the assets to use to obtain a pick. And KOC showed that he might be willing to make a move if it makes sense, evidenced by trading up to draft DWill.

  2. L.K.Anderson says:

I think the trade exeption will start the ball rolling for the Jazz.As was mentioned Hawks have some tough decisions to make with not a lot of elbow room. Marvin Williams would be the odd man out. 47 has Utah in mind. AK47, Days of 47, Sap and Mo Williams selected at 47.So this could be a diamond in the rough. I like Machado or Taylor who are point guards. They are projected to go in that range.

  3. It would be the first time since what…94′ or something that we dont have a 1st round pick. I would be very surprised if KOC doesnt make a play to get into this draft. I understand his statements in the media to the fans to show patience while building this teams new model. But honestly there should be some pressure to take advantage of options this summer. Some of these teams are getting rediculously loaded and fast. Hornets, Clevland, Philly, Minnesota. The league is getting very competitive and I feel like we should be taking every oportunity right now, or prepare to be an average team at best.

  4. Patrick says:

Makes some sense, but after listening to KOC, I dont see him making moves for a mid first round player. You dont send a huge trade exception for a 3 mil player, who eventually may or may not be a role player. Al, is too spendy for this as well. So unless there are other assets the he could obtain, or he is looking for a lower end lottery pick I doubt he bites.

I think KOC’s words were similar to “we have a lot of young guys ‘diaper squad’, unless we find a game changer you look for someone outside of the draft.”

  5. Eric Ostler says:

Patrick i agree with what u are saying where is should be a lotto pick and yeah they are young but unless they can get a young and upcoming point guard in FA its not going to help them if they want the team to grow together kinda like OKC where they are all young talent

  6. Gerald says:

I really think we need to focus on the 3 spot, and re-evaluate the PF/C personnel we have. I just think that Al doesn’t fit, and that Paul won’t be fitting in a start position soon.

I think after that we can look at the PG position again. I think Harris is a good player and can do things with the right people around him. I also think this translates to playing with Favors and Hayward. I’m up in the air about Burks and Kanter, but I think they have the talent to mold into team/moving offense type players.

I only mention Paul because as good as a player he is, he might end up being the odd man out if he can’t accept a bench role.

  7. Gerald says:

Or if we do focus on the PG we must end up with a really good PG.

  8. Patrick says:

Derek Fisher showed that you dont need a super PG to win games. You just need a well rounded PG, who leads the team. So if we focus on getting a solid SF who can play a perimeter game, then A solid PG is all we need. The sad thing is, that Devin is due to make 8.5 mil in the last yr of his contract. He is a better SG than a PG, and plays a different game than what we need. Want evidence of this, look here..

A seasoned PG earning 8.5 mil should not be down in the ranks with Felton, Collison, Augustine, and Barea. Barea brings a well rounded game and gets paid half what Harris brings as a PG. Ranking ahead of Harris are Sessions, Dragic, Lin, and Nash who are all free agents this season and are more well rounded PG’s than Harris.

  9. @Gerald I agree. A good 3 spot SF like Sefalosia or Iguadalla or my dream player Kawhi Leonard would be the biggest impact, even more than a point gaurd. Because if you add another good perimeter defender to help Hayward play defense on the wings and hit the set 3pt shot our team would instantly jump 20% better. Burkes has intangibles that are going to make him a great player, but the defense and 3pt shooting isnt there yet and wont be for a few years.

I am also 100% behind picking up Ilyasova. Al or Paul would have to go but we desperatly need a big man that can slide out for perimeter shooting to compliment our low post power and spread the defense. If we were able to strengthen those 2 spots (solid 3pt shooting SF and PF), then obviously find our PG of the future and complete the roster for a real contending team.

  10. The jazz have had our fill of the greatest PG’s to ever play the game in Pistol, Stockton, and Dwill. Its probably fair for a few seasons to have to work backwards and fill all other roster spots first before landing the next prodigy lol.

  11. KOC says we need to have patience but we do not really have time to have patience. We need more players under contract by next year and people that are going to be around. It does not help anything if we are just going to have to sign 1 year players for the next 5 years. We need to get some players and then build a team around them and then other players will want to come here. If we can win and make it a place people want to be then they will come. But we need to have a winning team before that will happen. Our current roster is not that and we need to make changes NOW not in the middle of the season and not after this season. If we wait we lose.

  12. Guido says:

So, its no so difficult get a pick. We need a pg, Im not saying to backing up anybody, cause I think Devin Harris must be a trading card, also Big Al and I dont like this one, but Enes must grow up at starting lineup I think. I think 7 to 12 could be enough to take Marshall. Thougts?

  13. Eric Ostler says:

Guido. if you have the 7th or anywhere to the 12th PG wise the Best PG available at 7 or later is Lillard.. i was reading some stuff on him today and the scouts say by far he is the best PG in the draft even tho he only played for weber state. weber needed him to score so he scored but he is a play maker and will continue that into the NBA… NBA Scouts have him at the 7th pick spot now so if you can get that pick i would choose him for marshall anytime

  14. Neither Lillard or Marshall are franchise type point guards. If either ever made an all-star team, like Devin Harris did a few years ago, I would be a little surprised.

Dion Waiters…that kid can ball. I would pick him.

I think if your looking at which point guard in this draft has the best long term potential, it’s Tony Wroten.
I would seriously consider selecting him in the late first or early second round.

  15. L.K.Anderson says:

A lot of the best players are from the second round. Draft net mock has Wroten going at thirty five. GS has four total picks in the draft,7,30,35, and I think53.Word has it they do not want four rookies. I would like to see the Jazz trade 47 and whatever else it takes to get 30,35. I think they could get two quality players out of that. After the newness wears of and a couple of seasons I think these lower tier point guards will learn and be every bit as good as the top two.. Also I think Waiters is now projected to go in the top fifteen.

  16. Agree L.K.

Lillard and Marshall aren’t the next Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or Derrick Rose. Let’s just be really clear about that. At best, they are in the Devin Harris, Ramon Sessions, Goran Dragic, Jameer Nelson type category.

The biggest potential impact players in this draft are Davis, MKG, Robinson, Barnes, Beal, and Drummond. All are likely gone in the first six or seven picks.

If the Warriors are trying to trade picks, they are not going to want our 47th pick in return.

I still think Houston and Boston are likely trade partners for the Jazz if they want a mid to late first round pick, since both have multiple picks they probably don’t want. I also think the Jazz would love to deal one of their two first round picks next season, in order to get one first round pick in this draft. Maybe a little swap action going on there.

  17. L.K.Anderson says:

This is the time of year when KOC is as busy as a one armed wallpaper hanger. (Ask your grandma what a wall paper hanger is.) How about if the Jazz give GS their pick back from them to make a deal work. I also think Rockets would be a good trade partner..

  18. Steve says:

There are plenty of options for the jazz to get in to this draft. i love the idea of getting back into this draft. Mid range picks seem more likely but just to throw this out there.. Washington has said they are open to trading the 3rd pick. Toronto also has mentioned they are open to offers.
Washington could use a player like millsap. Someone who has a work ethic and could bring some leadership. Also with our 10 million exception could take back some salary.
With the 3rd pick i feel it would be between Kidd Gilchrist and Harrison Barnes.

If you go to toronto, I think Jefferson could be dealt to pair him with Andrea Barnani and his outside touch, and give them a solid inside out punch.
With the 8th pick, you have your choice of either Pg’s IMO. Or you go with your highest rated SF.

  19. Patrick says:

Would love to get back into the draft too. Just not at the mid range. I dont believe there is anything that really makes us better from that range. Been looking for a sleeper and dont see any. If you could get a top 5 pick, or even trade Portland say Harris and the exception for their top two picks it would be worth it, they are projected to draft Lillard and Perry Jones. Other work would need to be done, but not a bad trade for us.

  20. Eric Ostler says:

i know Lillard is not the franchise changing PG but he would be very good at compliment Favors and Hayward and Adds the outside shooting thats why i want him

  21. I also think Philly would bite on trading one of their 3 picks. They have a lot of contract baggage with Elton Brand and if they pay Iggy to stay they would be in trouble going into the new league regulations.
