Tonight was a great night for the Jazz getting the first road win of the season and on top of that … they showed what they can do when favors gets 30+ mins a night and if they move Millsap to the 3 this team is extraordinary there is not one piece they lack on when they use the big line up the defense is great and favors showed vast improvement tonight it was a great sight to see

    u mean… kick away Hayward’s starting position???

^with how hayward has been playing… hell yeah! he’s been absolutely awful, i wish Corbin would be more like Sloan and bench players for awful play. Foye has been an absolute stud, with his clutch 3’s, and good D. And we all want to see burks play more, he needs an opportunity and IMO with that opportunity i think would prove the better solution at SG.

I’ve been a bit disappointed in Hayward’s play as well. He needs to finish better around the rim OR learn to stop and pull up and hit the short bank shot. I like that he’s aggressive, but he needs to be ‘in control’ aggressive.

I’m sorry but I don’t see the progress. Yes we won our first away game of the season, but it was against the Raptors, an understrength Raptors at that, and it still took a third overtime to pull out the win. Yet again we have a couple of players bullying the Jazz, one of which only seems to like to play against the Jazz. Didn’t this happen last season too? Some players around the league can’t seem to shoot with any regularity and then the Jazz come to town and they go crazy.

Favors finished the night with a decent score, but I’m still not settled on him being someone we can rely on to put in the points, but unless Jefferson works harder on the defensive end of the floor the Jazz are always going to struggle against the lower tier teams. Toronto are not a good shooting team, even less so when you take some of their players out of the equation yet last night they looked the opposite. A game against Toronto should be be a great Jefferson night, he excels in scoring against poor teams, a little bit of effort on defense early in the game and the Jazz could have and should have run away with it. But no, now we have 3 players playing 40 plus minutes, and a PG that is struggling through injuries playing 50, and a game against the Celtics to come in Boston on Wednesday. Awesome!

Seriously I’m glad we scraped out the victory, but if Jefferson can’t put in the effort to defend better against such opposition early in the game he negates any advantage we have in his scoring. And in that case Favors may well be better at playing at center to start some games. Notice I’m not saying trade Jefferson, and start Favors in his place, I don’t know what anyone is offering in such a scenario, and I would rather we continue to have 4 good bigs, than 3 and a bag of soap. However I do think we need to be less predictable with our starting 5.

We cannot have poor shooters getting up a head of steam early in the game that gives them and their team a sniff of an upset. These are teams that we should be looking at as a W in the win column before the game is played so that we can save our energy against someone like the Celtics, who will have a PG that is going to run rings around Jefferson. I have to question Corbin’s handling of the situation and the personnel on the floor when it was clear that Toronto was having a good shooting night. Personnel wise I think the Jazz have the players to compete. Our personnel got us a playoff position last season, and I think it has been much improved with the additions of Mo, Marvin and Randy, but tactically we are naive. Its seems coaches around the league are able to force the Jazz to react to plays they make instead of the Jazz inflicting their game on the opposition. The Spurs do it but they are a great team with a great coach and 3 great players (two of which are underpaid in my opinion), but the Hornets do it too whilst missing their PG and the Raptors do it with one win in 6 games, also missing their No 1 PG.

Despite our new additions, coaches around the league still know whats coming when the Jazz come to town, its predictable, and they know our weaknesses. Jefferson isn’t the greatest pick and roll defender, but he can defend in other ways. Against some teams he just chooses not to, especially early in games, he’s a player who likes to save his energy for the offensive end of the floor. That’s not good enough when a team such as Toronto, that is normally a horrible rebounding team suddenly thinks it can out-rebound you.

Another point, I’m starting to lose faith in the effectiveness of having Tinsley on the roster. His lack of shooting threat is damaging. There are times that Mo is not going to be available to play, especially if he has a few more games playing close to 50 minutes and having Tinsley as his backup playing those minutes that Mo would normally play could really hurt the Jazz.

First off it does not matter if you are the best or worst team in the league u will have really good night and you will have bad nights so saying it doesn’t matter because the raptors are a horrible shooting team does not make a difference there are games where miami does not play at the best of their abilities and dont score as much and lose its a sport.. the best team can still loose

I agree with a lot of what u are saying but if u watch the game and watch favors.. there are roughly 10 or more times that they dont get him the ball when he is wide open.. they keep dribbling till Jefferson or millsap can get the ball.. of the times he was open it was on pick and rolls he would get to the rim without problem but they dont work on the pick and roll with him likey they want to do with jefferson ..
with the inconsistency that hayward is putting up i would rather him not be the starter but i dont want to see foye take that spot due to the scoring he does with the second unit they need more scorers that are consistently scoring..

  6. Any chance we can get D-Will back? This way we can have 3 Williamses on the floor and it will really confuse the opponent.

  7. Guido says:

Thinking in cold, we cant get hayward´s ass off the line up, lets be realistic, the guy can d very well, in fact is him better skill, and Foye role must be on the bench, just a good 3 point guy, and is that what we need long time ago, so congrats to him.
    What about:
Mo- Hayward- Millsap- Favors- Jefferson. Its not my favorite line but is the better one we have.

TRADE BIG AL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (nice game yestaday even)

  8. Omar says:

I don’t like being the harbinger of doom, but I still saw a lot of the same bad habits from the Jazz. Giving up 28 points in the first quarter is just plain ole horrible; 57 points in a half?! Come on. If the Jazz were playing a quality D team Jazz would not have been allowed 52 at half. This will come back to kill us later against quality playoff teams.

That third quarter was crap interior D at its worst!! 30 points in that quarter and a ton of dunks and layups?! One play Al standing in the paint tries to take a charge?! Bargnani just goes right by Al for the layup?! Are you kidding me?! Maybe I am old school, but I want my center challenging layups and dunks while in the paint, protecting the rim not standing like a statue to where opponents just step to a side and avoid him. Millsap and Al played really bad interior D in that quarter.

Im gonna give Dallan credit for calling it early once Jazz signed Foye: Foye cannot guard the SG position. DeRozen would either post Foye up and back him down for easy shot, make move into paint with ease and then when Jazz collapse kick out to wide open shooter, or just flat out blew by Foye for layup or most notably that nasty dunk where Foye looked stuck in the mud. No combination of Foye, Mo, Tinsely should ever be on the court at the same time, only one at a time, cuz good SGs are just going to expose Foye, so Foye can only guard the PG position.

Favors D lead the charge. And Hayward coming in the game slowed down DeRozen and Jazz pulled away. Hopefully, one day Corbin realizes that its okay to have great interior and perimeter D on the court at the same time….one day I hope. I want to see are best interior defenders and our best perimeter defenders in the game at the same time, that gonna the squad that wins playoff games: Kanter, Favors, Marvin, Hayward, and Mo.

  9. Steven says:

Eric I don’t mind the odd bad team having a good night, but this is happening too frequently for the Jazz, and if it continues will make the quest for the playoffs harder than it needs to be. There is no shame to losing to the Spurs, when most most other teams are doing likewise, but struggling against poor teams that are understrength is going to hurt. It could be poor effort on defence. It could be tactical naivety by Corbin. It could be coaches around the league being all too aware of the Jazz’s strengths and weaknesses. It could be players thinking a game against select opposition is going to be a walk in the park, or all the above, but it needs to be addressed.

  10. jazzman says:

Hayward is what he is an average to below average player at best, I have been saying that all along. The Jazz need to deal him while there is still time and someone else will give you something for him. The only way he scores if it’s a wide open layup or wide open shot created by someone, other than him, play. He has no coordination and is an out of control spaz when he attempts to drive towards the basket. He is too slow to guard shooting guards and to bad to guard small forwards…..but he does make for a nice missionary looking promo shot for the Millers….

  11. @jazzman Hey buddy guess what? Gordon is the best defender on the team. He allows the lowest PER against opposing players on the team. So good try on that one. Who would you call a quality defender? Tony Allen and Lebron those would be league wide known good defenders and he is better then them!
