Meet
My Prediction
Posted by: Mike christensen on June 5th, 2011
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.My prediction for the pre season is this. The jazz sign williams with the third pick and fredette with the twelth. Utah then let go of Raja, Kerilinko, and okur. They then sign Gasol, resign watson, evans, miles. I don,t know for sure if this works but if it does i would do this if I was jazz managment.

Bell and Okur are under contract. They could buy our Okur with medical insurance to cover a good portion of it. I think he missed enough to cover it. Bell could be a throw in trade piece.Miller said on exit interviews that he felt when AK was out he could have made a better effort to come back sooner. Some crazy team will pay him too much anyway. I don’t know the exact status of Evans but he is under contract until the middle of January. Jazz are mum about picking up Miles contract. I think he too could be a trade piece. Again I am not sure but the Jazz being over the cap I con”t think they could pick up Gasol. I guess you were reffering to Marc?? Fess, Elson, Price are gone..
I agree with you in all your prediction, but I hope that we keep AK, and not resign CJ, so if we pick D-Will 2.0 he could back up Andrei and Paul at 3.
And sorry Memo, nice to meet u man!
No chance at gasol. Too much money. Not enough roster space. He would start for any team besides Utah, LA, Orlando, Milwaukee, and Atlanta. Why would he take less money than some will offer for 15-25 minutes a game and a backup role in UTAH no less? We are not very attractive to free agents. Maybe if we trade Al. But that is a downgrade at a vital position. I think he will go to Houston or stay in Memphis.
JRN, in some ways you may be right. Gasol a Downgrade, I dont know. Are there differences? Sure there are, but they are differences we can use. Gasol plays defense. Less points, probably but not necessarily. But adding scorers will solve that. Can it be an upgrade, depends upon how its worked out.
Trade Al and Okur for Granger. Maybe you have to toss in some other things to make it work. Indiana gets something to build upon, and Granger assists our scoring needs at the SF, we are able to discard Okurs contract. As discussed above maybe we just buy out his contract or wave him medically or what have you. It does add room for Gasol both financially and on the team.
We lose much in giving Al away in this scenerio, but we add more than we lose and we never use a draft pick. We add much needed defense, and we add much needed scoring. Is it possible, its a stretch, but stanger things have happened. Dropping Okurs contract leaves us more room than Memphis has. There are other possibilities, its only one scenerio.
Heck who knows. Maybe we draft Knight and Singleton. Maybe Williams and Fredette. There is no real way to know what we do until it happens. The bad thing is there are so many different possibilities. Lets hope that we move with one that really improves us.
I can’t wait for June 24th. It will either be love or $#@*&%*## for KOC..
@Patrick
I know The Indiana trade was a generalized scenario. But Indiana wouldn’t work because they have hibbert as their future Center. Also, What I meant by roster space was room for playing time. If we drop Okur and sign Gasol how will we divide 96 minutes between Sap, Favors, Gasol, and Jefferson. Al was fine in one on one defense but was bad at help. He had almost 2 blocks a game didn’t he? I think he was like 3rd out of centers in blocks. I just don’t see him coming to a team to be a backup. I would like to have Gasol here. I just dont think it is realistic.
Good thought Mike. But as L.K. pointed out Okur, Raja & Evans are all under contract. The Jazz will most likely resign Miles and Fes because they are relatively cheap. Unless they find better options like you suggest. I believe you are all underestimating Okur’s contribution next season… how quickly his value at making THE clutch shot of the game is forgotten!!(it also doesn’t mean he won’t be traded) The russian guy in NJ won’t give us a chance to make an offer to AK. DWill IS a PF. M. Gasol is going to be a hot property in free agancy, not sure the JAZZ would get the chance. Finally, I’m always worried about trades that we give up half our team for Granger… he puts up numbers, but hasn’t shown that he is a winner. Kind of BOOZERish… if you know what I mean.
I want to appologize for my last comment. NO ONE deserves to be called boozerish.
Carlos Boozer does. What an awful series.
Boozer has added another city to his list who would like to see him go. But with his contract have fun Bulls..
Chicago was just rapid firing contracts at every free agent that was available last off season. If they took ten seconds to look at Boozer first, they could have avoided the Boozer Meltdown.
“DEAR CHICAGO
Welcome to the Club.
sincerely-
Utah & Cleveland”
JRN, Actually Al going to Indiana as a PF, could work. Send him with CJ or Bell and you have the tandom this article talks about. I just dont know if they have enough space to eat Okurs contract so that we can move Gasol into the lineup.. If it could work, a trade of Okur, Al, and Miles for Granger and enough space to sign M Gasol would be huge. We lose one solid peice and gain two, defense and shooting. Again, its just a what if.

Thor, Okurs value hasnt gone down because of his play. The guy is 32 yrs old. He still hasnt made it back from the ankle injury that most people dont make it back from. He has one yr left on his contract. There are more questions about Okur coming back and making a 50% of his normal contribution than there are about Fredette.. If he were younger, if we could build around him, if there were less uncertainty we try to work with him. But if your trying to set up a team to go for many yrs to come, you trade out his loveable Butt or send him packing and bring someone solid in. I dont want to see him eat another roster spot and 10 mil sitting behind the bench again. Remember dressing 9 for a good portion of the season.
I’m not sure why everyone keeps saying that Derrick Williams will play PF, he seems more like a SF to me. Not to mention, he’s said repeatedly he’s more comfortable and better at the 3. It seems to me like he would be an undersized 4, which we have enough of already. I think he has the potential to be the starting SF on the Jazz within the next two years, if he slips to us.
He has the ability to be either. Just will depend upon the team he goes to, their needs etc. I agree with the SF thing though. He has the skill set to make it there. Guess we will see in time. He will need to pick it up on the defensive side though. Lazy getting back at times, didnt see that till locke pointed it out.
