Meet
Loss at the Garden

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. This is a game that hurts to loose , specially after having 1 chance to win it, and then to tie it. Our line up has been trimmed down to 7 players averaging 20-25 min and the less rotation is starting to show it’s benefits( expect some).
Tonight we gave up too many points from the C’s bench. Barbosa and Green both ended with 16 points,,, YES 16 when they only been getting 4PPG. Not to point fingers but…Randy…….you can shoot the 3, yes ill give you that. But seriously. play some D!. Every team we play against from the Gay to Derozan have completly destroyed him. The question now is . worth having him on to make 3’s when they score 16 on us??…
Now leaving poor Randy alone , I shall move to our point guard who is for me the one that made us loose.
Mo Williams, can assist , can score and make a 10-0 run ( spurs) but his decision making ability has to be questioned. The jazz were down by 1, with a little over 30 seconds left. Instead of making a play, getting to the foul line , passing the ball to a teammate…..he chose to be the hero. FAIL . Then we are down by 3 and catch a break by a traveling on Green. What does he do?. shoot a contested 3 with 10 seconds left. WHYY!! .
Now the positive.. can anyone say Derrick Favors is just a future All start??. He has proven that his defense is amazing. He makes the team better and never gives up. And yes i know he can’t make much offensively, but little by little he is starting to increase those numbers. Im not the coach and probably super biased on what the starting lineup should be, but millsap and jefferson doesn’t seem smart anymore. If i was to choose, i would let paul stay in and Big Al go to the bench.
Big Al can score in late situations, but he is just what you call a black hole . He does more bad than good, his defense is as bad as it gets. If put in a balance, more points get scored on us because of his deficiency .
Well i should probably ended on the sweet note that even though we lost a hard fought game, the unit is looking more solid. And im personally loving it. All those first game jitters are starting to go away. Now on to Philly.

AHHHHH!!! This game was so frusterating to watch.
Mo Williams was a complete tard those last 2 minutes. His 3 at the end was just awful. He was guarded by 2 people and there was still 6 seconds left when he shot it. PASS THE BALL DUMB ASS!
How did Paul miss a 2 inch lay up?
Favors’ goal tend on that foul made me want to punch a baby.
All that frustration aside, I’m glad we didn’t get worked. It was neck to neck the whole game, we just blew it at the very end. Philly got worked by the winless Pistons tonight. If we can beat them Friday and then pick up a (hopefully) easy win against the Wizards I will be satisfied with this road trip. <3
Bad news is, we lost and Mo had some terrible decision makings. Good news is I think we might actually be able to go 3-1 on this road trip. Philly just lost to the pistons and they are only 1-3 at home. Get it done JAZZ!!!
You know before I complain, Im gonna give credit to Al for going into the paint and trying to score there and not settle for outside shots—all this after he got dunk on, so Ill give him credit there.
Now Corbin just doesnt get it. Foye CANNOT guard any position other than PG! Unless a team goes small Foye and Mo should not be on the court together, period. Learn Corbin. Here is an idea, play Burks WITH Foye. You are welcome Corbin. You can still have Foye as a 3 point shooter, plus Burks who can guard the SG and can shoot and can dtive to the basket! Problem solved Corbin.
Hayward is badass, if you doubt that, you are just hating on Hayward. He gave PP a ton of trouble and with the ball in his hands looks damn good initiating offense. He needs 30+ minutes!
Favors is crazy good. Can the Jazz FO and Corbin please wake the hell up— PLEASE!!!
Great summary: and you hit it on the head….Mo played hero ball and failed. Hes just not a traditional PG. I was very disappointed.
Jazz have SOOOOO much talent but Corbin just does not get it, damb. Tinsley should never see the court unless injuries. Foye should only be on the court w Burks or Hayward with him. And sorry Al, but hes just not worth it in the big picture of Jazz.
ALERT: NIGHTLY BURKS PLAYING TIME VENT
I still want to see Burks and Foye play together. In todays game you need everyone on the floor needs to be an option on the offensive side or a solid defensive player or else he’s just wasting space. Tinsley is neither. So why continue to waste minutes on him, when we have burks that NEEDS minutes.
And honestly i don’t understand why corbin refuses to play them together… They complement each other so well, foye would much rather spot up and shoot 3’s, and burks is very good at getting to the hoop… Its the Draw and Kick, that the Kings ran for years with bibby. The same thing nash did in pheonix.
Now, about the game… i was impressed with how we battled the entire night. Favors is now making a difference on a regular basis. He’s on the verge of earning the title of a gamechanger. HE HAD 12 FREE THROWS IN LIKE 6 MINUTES!!!! WOW!!!!! Haha
Its unfortunate what happened the last 2 minutes, we battled the entire night. Mo is the leader, and i don’t want the ball in anybody else’s hands in crunch time than the leader. I wish we would have had a better play and put Mo in a better position to get a bucket, but it is what it is. He owned up to it and will get better.
Paul is a beast! and his game is ever evolving. Its getting harder and harder to come to grips that he might be gone, whether we trade him or let him go. I just wish he would accept that 6th man role. haha
Hopefully Hayward continues to build on what he did tonight, he had a good 3rd quarter and overall good game. He needs to string together a couple of good games for his confidence moving forward the rest of the season.
Definitely a much better team we saw tonight. Boston Garden is not an easy place to get a win. Just remember the punking they did on us last year. So to leave boston with a loss like that you can hold your head up high.
The Jazz stayed in it til the end. Great effort from the team. Al Jefferson didn’t play like he was terrified of Kevin Garnett.
There were more than a few plays where Jeffersosn’s matador defense led to easy buckets. The mnost obvious is of course when Jeff Green posterized him. That’ll be on highlight reals all season long. There were 3 Jazz defenders in the paint and he dunked on all of them.
Jefferson should have known that a foul call was coming regardless and knocked Green out of the air. At least make him earn his points. That would have sent a clear message to the Celtics, and Green wouldn’t have wanted to come near the paint again.
Defensive lapses aside, pretty good game. The alarming thing here is Mo William’s poor decision making. Once again Williams insisted on trying to create an extremely bad shot. Not once but twice in the last 30 seconds. Williams made a succession of very bad decisions thatr ultimately cost the team the game.
Jefferson could have dished to a wide open Hayward who was five feet away, but instead dished to a double-teamed Williams.
Millsap got absolutely clobbered going up for a layup, but there was of course no call. Then the ref called a BS travelling call in an attempt to make it up.
Jazz need to improve their free throw shooting, especially in the 4th quarter.
Tinsley sucked tonight. However, we won’t be any better when Watson comes back. We really need to do something about the backup point guard situation. And no, Alec Burks is not the answer to that prayer.
We criticize Al a lot, but for good reason. When a player is driving, he’s very bad at reacting from the weak side and getting into position (like right in front of the charge circle). Either he lets guys blow by him, or he fouls them. And half the time when he DOES foul them, he doesn’t do it hard enough to keep them from making the shot.
Funny how we have like 4 guys who can ‘play’ backup PG, but no real backup PG. Tinsley (good P&R passer, no D, no shot threat), Watson (slightly better D, decent passer, no shot threat), Burks (looks for own shot, not looking to pass), Foye (trouble with quick guys or tall guys, better shooter off a pass than off the dribble, not a great passer).
Honestly, I think Hayward fits the PG mold better than any of those guys. Ballhandler, passer, shooter. Did you see his step-back three when he was running the pick and roll and his man went under the pick?
When Hayward first started playing he was a PG. That would also free up playing time at the two and three.Hayward is also the better defender..
This game shows us a few things about this team . The first is that they seam to be getting better at playin away from the freindly confines of the ESA building . Second they need to learn to play as a team better , some of them wanted to make the play that was contested instead passin for a better shot . Third Favours and Hayward are startin to make an impact on defense , they are startin to shoot better to .
I am interested in why everyone picks on Foyes defense when he can shoot the 3 good . I thought that was why we traded for him , so that we could improve on our 3 point shooting which has happened with the addition of Mo , Marvin , and Foye .
I think that our defense and outside shooting has improved from last year . To me the key to our loses are us playin as a team , which hasnt happened yet . But I am willing to bet that by the time the All-Star break comes we will be much better at that too .
The other thing you guys seam to knock Coach Corbin for not playin Favours enough and now he is playin him alot more . But you still find fault in him . He is only human and he is not all ya wanna be coaches that think you know can coach better than him .
I am willing to bet that he has very little control over some things that you all think he is doing wrong , The players , Owners , and front office have more to do with it than meets the eye .
I do think that we need a better bench pg , Jammal and Earl are runnin out of gas at this stage of their carrers .
I also think that Jefferson is playin better defense this year , just not the whole game . But I think the same can be said for just about everyone else .
I do have one question as to why Burkes and Carrol are not playing much ? Did they do somethin that I never heard about ? Those two bring energy on the floor when they play ?
Sorry so long but that is my 10 cents worth .
@Nick “Jefferson could have dished to a wide open Hayward who was five feet away, but instead dished to a double-teamed Williams.” YES!! I saw this and was screaming at the TV give it to Gordon give it to him! Instead we give it to the guy that had just missed 3 shots in the last two minutes.
I just do not understand why we traded Harris away when we had no better option at the PG position then people that can not play the back up PG position. I do not care that him or Mo would have been sitting. Because our back ups are atrocious. Then you would not have to worry about the wings. Not saying I do not like Marvin I do. But there has got to be some forward thinking the the FO. We have no one to back up the PG position which puts us in a HORRIBLE position when Mo goes down and can not play.
OMG we need a real pg!!!!!!!!!
TRADE BIG AL!!!!!!!!!
KICK MO BLACK BUTT SOMEONE PLEASE!!!!!!
If I was the coach there I sit his ass on bench FOREVER dumb idiot!
@guido you need to calm down about Mo dude… its so funny how quickly people change their opinions on players. After the dallas game, everyone was in love with Mo, after last nights game everyone is freaking out. CALM DOWN. He is a better fit for this team than anyone else out there available to us. He is the leader of this team, and i want the ball in his hands. He made poor decisions, but Corbin needs to do a better job of putting him in a position to be successful.
@Steve: A pro player can´t take 4 last game shoots if he´s missing all night long. God bless Mo.
@Steve: My point is that, this is not the first time he do it
I like Mo’s play so far actually. He’s not great getting the ball to the roll man, but IMO only Tinsley and Hayward have shown any skill at that. At least Mo hits threes when the ball gets spit back out of the post, and his pull up jumper has looked good too, and he can put on the speed and get to the hoop as well, plus he IS a better passer than D-Harris, with some decent assists and he’s a much better defender. Yeah, he missed those three in a row at the end of the Celtics, but he owned up to that and promised to get better. I like Mo.
