Andrew I just go with what is already working well jefferson has not played with the jazz Ie: no team chemistry maybe after a month or so I may change my mind lets see what sloan does Its his decision not ours but there is no need for snide comments so **** ***

@michael you seriously put milsap and fes infront of jefferson? are you high?

  • Avatar Image Michael R. Jensen said 2 years, 10 months ago:

Well I just heard the news on Matthews and Bell, so Raja Bell is in a Jazz uniform again not a bad decision by KOC if I say so myself he’s tough on defense, can drive to the rack, has great range, and can spread the floor by shooting three’s. His only drawback is that he gets into foul trouble easy but guarding hot sg’s such as d wade kobe lebron baron and the list goes on it’s not hard. With DWill Bell AK Milsap and Fes what a starting five then the relief of Price CJ hayward and jefferson well just wow

Raja Bell to Utah… Sad to see Matthews go, but great 48 hrs for KOC. Matthews contract offer was crazy.

portland just playing the jazz to keep our pay high so we can’t afford better players. i wouldn’t be surprised if the jazz dont keep him if portland tries to work out a trade with him

I’m really excited about the addition of ‘Big Al’ but pretty worried about our SF/SG. With the loss of Korver, Memo’s injury and the probable loss of Matthews our outside shooting hopes, sans D-Will, fall on CJ, AK and the rook. AJ is great in the post but has absolutely no range, without a respectable outside threat at the 2 or 3 expect to see teams pack the middle, similiar to the Lakers a couple of seasons ago in the Playoffs when they absolutely refused to guard Ronnie. Kudos to KOC for pulling of this move but we need to either match Matthews or find a shooter

Welcome to the Jazz Big Al!!!
If people havent read the Locked on Jazz AJ report yet, they really should. It lays it out to fans to understand some reasons that this move for Utah could be so powerful. Anyone seeing AJ in action knows how special his lowpost ability is if he is healthy. I think the unknown factors about him with the jazz are all HUGE upsides for his game. Sloan’s system alone should allow him to rampage the key with more options than he dreamed of at Minnesota. In Locke’s report his breakdown of shots taken and low post looks right on. AJ also proves to be unstoppable in a pick n roll scenario which sloan will prob use more of this year. People are hard on him about defense and passing, but if he’s not getting 10 rebounds a game, there is usually 3 blocks, or both. Also dont forget that on defense, anybody that can handle the rock is trying to drive it at him to draw fouls and get him out. I don’t remember Booz throwing it down on Pao and Yao and other Bigs. It was a fade away 16 footer. I cant wait to see how he rolls with the best play set up man in the league at PG, along with other great passer/playmakers: AK, and GH. Because he posts on the right (80%) he is facing directly at CJ’s best side for a lefty. And then … oh yeah that guy Paul setting up a rebound clinic! We will have to wait and see buuuut Lakers….. ITs ON!!

Ben, I agree that Matthews is a talent that is not easily replaced. I think you’re off in your assessment of his undrafted status. That status is precisely why the Jazz will likely not be able to keep him. Had they drafted him, they could have had the rights to him longer and signed a smaller deal, ala Paul Millsap’s first few years in the league. Instead, he was basically a free agent acquisition, and the offer from Portland will pay him more than anybody else that was drafted last season. Where are you getting the half price number?

  • Avatar Image Ben said 2 years, 10 months ago:

Joel, you’re a genius. As much as I love this Al Jefferson trade, the Jazz’s most valuable player right now, next to Williams (and a very close second to WIlliams, actually), is Wesley Matthews. Think about it guys, his undrafted status will keep his salary way below the normal level for someone with his skill. We get all of his skill for half price, basically. He may not be at the skill level WIlliams, Millsap, or Kirilenko are, but he will be. If I had to choose between getting Jefferson and keeping Matthews, I’d choose Wesley any day.

I love you all, and I love the Jazz, but people who think that the Jazz should get rid of Matthews are crazy. Wesley Matthews is the best defender on the team, he shoots it better than Brewer ever did and he was an undrafted rookie. Sloan NEVER starts ANY rookie. Not even lottery picks very often their first year. He takes charges, rebounds, finishes around the rim. He is by far the best perimeter guard on the team. He made JR Smith look silly in the playoffs. Don’t sleep on the intangibles.

the future draft pick is that next years first round? i heard it is protected but how protected? is it as dumb as the memphis pick or what?

  • Avatar Image Justin said 2 years, 10 months ago:

Good by Kosta. Good by draft picks. Hellow Al. This is awesome. Are we going to go get the other Al (Harrington?)?

I sure hope so. One piece down, some more to go…

I also will hate to loose Matthews, but the Jazz have to play it smart, and let him go. Miles can play the 2, and then they will be looking for a shooter to come off of the bench. That could be Price, but then they will be another point guard with some size to make up for Price. I seriously think Heyward can play the point, especially if he doesn’t have to guard the other PG.

  • Avatar Image Chris said 2 years, 10 months ago:

We will be fine with out Matthews, Jerry Sloan molded him into a player, and he can get the same result with just about any other SG the Jazz bring in.

Why do we keep CJ why wont portland take hime instead of Matthews big loss if we lose him.
